Do you know any 3D adventure/exploration game that makes use of the shooting mechanic? I'm trying to figure out how a Metroid game could work in 3D and I want some references for things like controls and camera.
Third person shooters are usually focused on shooting but I want some games that have more adventure elements and aren't exclusive for death-match style shooters

Ratchet and Clank?

Control, Shadow Man, there's this old ass one called The Divide: Enemies Within. ReCore, maybe. Haydee lol.

are any of them worth playing

Eh, no.

Resident Evil and clones probably count too, mind. Exploring a map is all you do.

Give me a few more years to get off my ass and make a spiritual successor, because there really is nothing that quite scratches that same balance of exploration to combat.

Although having replayed MML2 lately, there's a fucking lot that could have been improved with its gunplay, which I plan to do.

I made a 3D Mega Man control scheme based on Monster Hunter controls. Though it did use gyro for fine tuning your aim since I based it on 3DS. You had both a target cam and aiming. For modern controls you tap L/LB/L1 on a locked on boss to have the camera face it. Double tap to face camera behind Mega Man. You hold zL/LT/L2 to go into aim mode where the camera zooms in and there's a reticle. Aim mode is where you focus on attacking. Otherwise camera follows you around freely where you can see pitfalls, hazards, and other enemies. In free mode you shoot in front of you. Face buttons are action, jump, dash, and use item. R/RB/R1 is for sub-weapon and zR/RT/R2 is for Mega Buster. To select items and sub-weapons you hold L/LB/L1 then use face buttons up and down to select weapon or left and right to select item. If no sub-weapon is equipped Mega Man will kick. Also if an enemy is within melee range and the Mega Buster is at full charge Mega Man will do a Mega Upper that deals twice as much damage as a full charge shot.

It depends on what you want. Do you want free shooting like typical shooters or RE? Or do you want a lock-on system that allows you to strafe and move sideways.

please give us mega man legends 3

Jak 2, Blaster Master Blasting Again, most Ratchet games.

Megaman Legends was ahead of its time in the worst way. Dual analog sticks weren't standard when it was released so it has these fucked up tank controls. It might be blasphemous to say but it would actually be improved by a remake that fleshed out the gameplay and made use of new hardware (render distance, standard controls, etc).

The game plays fine with its digital controls and Legends 2 has modern controls.

Look up Delta Gal and Aeromachina if you want something like Megaman. I think Delta Gal had a free download which included a dungeon with some shooting and grappling sections

The fact that this series has such dedicated fans but no progress on a decomp is saddening

We need more fanbases like sonic fans

Abyss X Zero too

I believe in you. You can do this.

for what purpose? It emulates perfectly in beetle-psx and duckstation

Do you think that other decomp projects only exist because they didn't emulate well or?

Or.

Then it sounds like you get it to me

CRAPCOM

Megaman Legends people moved on to Yakuza

Having not played any Yakuza games I don't see any common ground whatsoever besides both being Japanese.

Body harvest
Jet force gemini

Both are Character-driven virtual tourism centric ARPGs with substories and minigames.

Jet Force Gemini was the reason why Prime is First-Person iirc. Miyamoto didn't like the way the shooting worked in third person

I wouldn't say MML is that character driven. It's kind of more about the lore as I see it. But also they're short games so neither the lore nor the characters have that much chance for deep development. Tourism sounds like a stretch. You spend a ton of time in scifi dungeons in MML and you're not there for tourism, you're there to plunder. It's a dungeon crawler. There are town areas, but that's in just about every RPG. The minigames in 1 are all inside that TV station, are optional, and were such a small part of the game that in 2 I don't think there are any minigames besides that annoying as fuck quiz.

This just looks like shit. I'm at least aiming for decent graphics with my shit, not "lolsoretro" attempts at PS1 restrictions.

The best part of MML is the characters to me but you have good counterpoints. I still see some common ground, and it's a 1997 game fwiw, so of course it's going to pale against Yakuzer. It's obvious they were trying to Ape something akin to the coming 3D zeldas.

Never played any megaman but I do like how this art style was enjoyed so much someone made a lora for it so people can gen up stuff using this sort of art style.

god i wish Megaman Legends had mouse aiming. theres a ps1 mouse injector that i havent figured out how to work yet

I feel like mouselook would eradicate nearly all of the already pretty tame difficulty the game has

That's fine. It obliterates Goldeneye's difficulty and is still a more fun game because you're not fighting against sluggish controls.

There was a leak for the source of Tron Bonne, but no one has touched it.

game difficulty should never be in the controls, unless its a gimmick game

But oldschool Ultima and games like Receiver are fun.

They did it in 2002 on the gamecube. Go ask them

sure, but how much of that is nostalgia?

Receiver is almost the definition of a gimmick game.

None, I didn't play either until pretty recently.

I disagree, the control scheme is a core mechanic.
MML's controls are sluggish as fuck, but that's the controls, that doesn't mean that every game should be a reskin of each other.

Am I having a stroke? Is this thread having a giggle?
