AoE doesn't matter in this game. You're either wrecking bosses (single target) or killing trash which most characters can do like Verso or Maelle. And if you're killing trash you don't need to slow them.

First off, at harder areas, you're risking party wipes if you don't avoid most/all damage imo. So healing doesn't matter if your party wipes in a second. Secondly, there's so many good luminas based around not healing. You fell for the heal jew. I didn't use a single heal my entire playthrough and I probably deal twice as much damage because of it.
Confident: Take 50% less damage, but can't be healed. Time spent healing is time spent not DPSing
Inverted Affinity: Apply Inverted on self for 3 turns on battle start. 50% increased damage while Inverted
Tainted: 15% increased damage for each Status Effect on self (combine with above)
Beneficial Contamination: Plus 2 AP on applying a Status Effect. Once per turn. Combine with above
In Media Res: Plus 3 Shield on Battle Start, but max Health is halved (3 shields means you don't need to heal)
Various pictos based on being <50% HP, <30% HP, <10% HP. Various pictos that grant shields (solidifying, shielding death, etc)
