recommend some vidya that that will get help me get out of depression, something that i can sink a couple hundred hours into.

Pick any Bethesda RPG.

Starfield?

Pick ANY Bethesda RPG. Just pick based off the setting you like. Fantasy? TES. Post apocalyptic? Fallout. Space themed? Starfield.

No, you don't need a long game. You need something quick that respects your time and makes you feel like an absolute gaming master by the end.
Metroid Dread is the ultimate fast cure foe existential dread.
Smooth movement, and satisfying combat, and actually uses all the controller buttons well.

i've played skyrim and new vegas and liked those a lot, i tried fo4 but didn't really like it. i've been thinking about trying oblivion or morrowind, would you recommend either of those?

frognigger

i only have a pc... i could emulate it but emulated games usually feel too janky to enjoy.

I recommend working out and eating healthy to help with depression
a long game? kinda depends on what you like and have access to.

i mostly love RPGs and grand strategy games, and roguelikes a little bit.

nta but, oblivion and morrowind are fun. morrowind will require some work, playing vanilla is not recommended. it starts off kinda slow and might take a bit to get used to it but it actually is one of those games that gets exceptionally good a few hours in.
for my own recommendation check out digital devil saga if you can

Lobotomy Corporation

I'm personally not the biggest fan of Oblivion, but it doesn't have a good reputation for no reason. I'd say go ahead and try both Oblivion and Morrowind out. Just be aware that when you try Morrowind, combat is RNG based. Meaning if you swing a sword at a rat, just because you visually swung the sword over the rat, it doesn't mean you actually hit it. Research both games a bit, but I do think they're worth a shot even though you've play Skyrim first. It'd just take some getting used to.

sadly can't play it, unless i emulate it. might try it.
looks good will try
alright i'll check them out

that Hundred Line Defense is taking over 100 hours to finish so maybe thats for you? It has waifus and romance routes

glad you asked. i recommend some good weed asap and elite dangerous

nothing gets you out of depression, it only helps you ignore it.
age of empires 2: definitive edition or deep rock galactic.

LobCorp has by far the single most hopeful and cathartic ending I've seen in all of vidya. You have to push through like 100 hours of difficult gameplay and what feels like a misery porn story, but the payoff is more than worth it. Genuinely inspiring. If any game is going to pull you out of depression it's this one.
For reference, it was heavily inspired by Dosto's Crime and Punishment, if you're a Anon Babblefag.

Subnautica
Satisfactory

disgaea 5

ignoring it is good enough for me. i just want something that i can look forward to doing when i wake up. just a reason to get out of bed.

Starfield

anon is depressed, not suicidal

dwarf fortress can be good if you're a creative guy.

if you're a creative guy

what if they're a creative girl, huh?

me, a knower of library of ruina, the even better game in question

girls dont play vidya. they knit, sew, drink liquor and beat their kids, paint, and crochet.

yeah i wanted to try dwarf fortress for a while now, idk why i never tried it already. i will soon, i'm just making a list with all the recommended games in this thread rn. gonna force myself to try them all a little bit at least.

I don't think it works like that.
Try going for a jog in sunlight every other day for a few weeks.

Really wish more games and stories in general were like the picture to the right desu. I'll check out Lobotomy Corporation, thanks.

something that i can sink a couple hundred hours into.

Any autismslop will do. My go to is gsgs like CK2 or hoi4

i am incapable of leaving the house due to social anxiety so that's not an option sadly.

Epic Battle Fantasy 5

i loved ck3 and hoi4, do you think ck2 is better?
i'll probably try the free version, unless the steam version is piratable. are the two much different at all?

I hope you take a sun bath at least for 20 min every day, it helps you produce serotonin which "combat" depression. No game will ever take you out of depression and I personally know this.

last time i had sunlight was around a month ago, for about 1 hour i think.

I personally like Starfield a lot, but based on the fact he likes Skyrim, TES is much better of a choice (also I know Starfield "isn't for everyone" to put it lightly)

steam version is pirateable, though i dont know where. maybe asking in /dfg/ on Anon Babble or Anon Babble would help.
the main differences are mostly surface level: everything is clickable in the steam version, it has an inbuilt tile-set (graphics instead of ASCII), and you can get mods from the steam workshop easily. the steam version used to not have adventure mode(control 1 guy vs being a fortress builder), but i think they added it back.
the lazy newb pack has different tilesets already pre-installed if you dont like the regular ASCII, and has an option to use the mouse but im not sure how well it works. i personally like using the keyboard and having ASCII over the steam version, but i know it's not for everyone.

For me, the perfect balance is 90% despair and 10% hope at the end. I love stories where protagonists overcome seemingly hopeless odds. Misery porn sucks, and stories that are too hopeful usually come off as tacky.

do you think ck2 is better?

100%. I think the design philosophy of CK3 as a whole has moved way more towards flavour and roleplay rather than features and the features that CK2 has make the game feel way richer.
The fact that ck3 is still missing merchant republics to this day is fucking shameful given how much they added to the setting.

I think if I had to sum up the difference, it's that in CK2 you care way more about the geography and politics of the map. In CK3 literally everywhere on the planet feels exactly the same.

Heavily modded, they're all fair recommendations. Vanilla, only morrowind is. Although I played it as a kid years ago, so YMMV there.

Clannad. Its a VN sure but I guarantee if you give it a chance you'll have a positive outlook on life.

I've been listening to Jesse Lee Peterson while playing maplestory private servers.

this , play a bunch of metroidvanias

Bo : Path of the Teal Lotus
Nine Sols
Metroid Dread
Blasphemous I/II
Axiom Verge I/II
Hollow Knight
Rain World

thank you i'll look some more into it and decide on either one, the difference doesn't seem that big.
to be fair i do enjoy the roleplaying part of it a lot, but yeah i mainly quit playing because every single country plays the same. if ck2 is any different in that part i'll try it.
will check it out.
i can't even listen to him as a joke without getting triggered...
i'll check those out thank you

You don't have to talk to anyone if you're jogging anon.

no but even going out and being around other people is too scary. i can only go out if it's together with somebody else. can't do it alone.

no i won't

get a job faggot, games wont make you happy

is this a gacha game? i wanna download because feet but i don't wanna spend any money on it.

I'd go with you if I could anon. Maybe you could try it and know that I'm there with you in spirit?

that's very sweet of you anon but i don't think it would work.

tfw my dopamine receptors and attention span are so fucked that I'm genuinely proud of myself if I'm able to sit down and play a single player, story based video game

Anon Babble, tiktok, and instagram are ruining my life with the obscene amount of time I spend mindlessly scrolling on those sites.

since 2023, I've probably only seen the credits roll on maybe 2 or 3 games. when I do play games it's usually just mindless multiplayer instant gratification slop like marvel rivals.

how do I stop this? I have like a dozen games on my backlog I want to play but every day it's just the same shit, I end up wasting my time on tiktok/Anon Babble/instagram reels

because the order is important.

I’m playing Etrian Mystery Dungeon 1 and it’s been such a comfy experience that I’m legit surprised at the game’s quality. Also it’s was recommended by an anon here so, thx for that /v.

schedule 1

how do the older hitman games compare to world of assasination? because hitman 3 is one of my favorite games.

i played the tutorial for 5 minutes and got bored... is it actually good or just fotm slop? i might force myself to play it for some more maybe.

How autistic are you anon? These games are light or non-existent on story, but have fun systems to engage with.
Something like Rule the Waves might be fun if you like boats.
Dominions 6 absolutely makes you feel great when you win a big battle or your plan works. It's multiplayer at its core, but its really old school play by email type stuff. Kind of like the lovechild of Heroes of Might and Magic and Dwarf Fortress.
Conquest of Elysium is similar, but its closer to a 4x lite, better for single player, and can be hilariously jank.
I've been playing quasimorph a bunch lately too. Its a grindan roguelite, but the combat feels really satisfying, both when your clones are cybernetic gods of war, or when you start and have to play super carefully. Awesome OST too.

Personally, going and walking 10 miles 2-3 times a week went a long way to helping my depression. Just throw on the stoner rock or sludge and go.

They are way harder, in the first game you need to explore a lot as the map there doesn't show you everything you need to know. At least in Codename 47 AI won't kill you as long as you are wearing an appropriate disguise. Hitman 2 Silent Assassin however got an extremely paranoid AI that shoots you for running or for making eye contact with guards even if you got a perfect disguise.

Yakuza 0. That game is genuinely full of life.

for running or for making eye contact with guards even if you got a perfect disguise

that sounds fucked up but i'll try codename 47 probably.
i'm a little autistic but probably not way too much. those games do look a bit too autistic for me.
i don't know why i never tried yakuza games before because i hear nothing but good things about them. i guess i'm not too interested in the theme but might try.

buy a gun and go shooting

don't know why i never tried yakuza games before because i hear nothing but good things about them

I never played Yakuza either, until a friend gifted 0 to me. I instantly fell in love with the game and I have been a fan of the game ever since.

Open world survival crafting, pick one that appeals to you.

factorio and rimworld

but really try for better habits like eating fresh foods you cook and waking up at the same time everyday rather than 3-4pm

dumb frognigger

factorio and rimworld

i love factorio but got filtered by rimworld anytime i tried playing it, which is like 5 different times. i'll check the other ones.

runescape

to be fair i do enjoy the roleplaying part of it a lot, but yeah i mainly quit playing because every single country plays the same. if ck2 is any different in that part i'll try it.

I recommend you either pirate it or try the subscription at first. They're still charging a ridiculous amount for the full game even if the base game is free

Games won't do that for you
Find meaning in life or something but playing video games is the equivalent of getting blackout drunk everyday
You're not fixing the issue you're just avoiding it

fix my depression by running away from your problems into escapist hedonism

enjoy staying depressed

Try russian roulette you retarded frogposter.

try sucking my dick off, it might be funny, it might.

mm labyrinth of refrain was good too. its a dungeon crawler without the massive grinding and cute artstyle

Balatro

I've been depressed for 10+ years

game that will help me get out of depression

something I can sink a couple hundred hours into

Those things are mutually exclusive

Wash your fucking ass nigger.

Minecraft.
Seriously you'll enjoy it. I know some people will not like the game but it's got some nice creative aspects that allow you to relax a bit.
I would also recommend Skyrim or Oblivion (classic, not remake) and that will help you relax your nerves a bit.
I consder these three games as part of this weird genre I call "ASMR games" because they are quite relaxing.

Hey, anon, like someone said here, I don't think long games or any media that takes dozens of hours is good for getting out of depression. I have my own theory why, but for me it increases self-loathing.

What helped me was playing some colorful games like A Hat in Time, Cats in Time, but also just good games in genres I enjoy, like Wreckfest and a bunch of point and click adventures.

I am also on antidepressants, but feeling much better than 4-5 months ago. Good luck!

i probably have most hours on minecraft out of any game but i sadly can't enjoy it anymore. i try vanilla, modded, multiplayer but i just can't play it. also played skyrim, but i'll probably try oblivion.

Video games do not help with depression. Its like comfort eating, youre only going to feel shit again afterwards. Use some physical stimulus. Get outside, join a club or do something productive.

Go outside. That'll really help with depression.
