I played some Blazblue with my friend when I realized it was actually a bad game because I got hit when I pressed a button. The fucking audacity of this game to punish me of all people for trying to press a button? I realized that the game required no skill at all because I don't know how to block so my friend kept hitting me. To top it all off he even went and hit me with a purple throw midcombo. Why do I deserve to get hit by a grab that gives me more than half a second to tech just because I was too busy jerking off to Rachel's feet while my opponent was midcombo.

This lead me to the conclusion that this game is bullshit and has no fundies, because I myself have no fundies. I want a more strategic and chess like fighting game despite the fact that I play like a chimpanzee on Adderall. Also anime games in general are bad because I have to block and my friend beat me with suboptimal combos he learned in Xrd's combo trials last time we played that. The only way I had a chance to win was to press a big button on a jump in because my friend can't antiair for some reason (what a fucking retard).

Because of that, I now know that Blazblue or any other anime fighter isn't for me and that the whole genre is dogshit. The games are fine though for what they are, just not for me.

Azrael is like Hakumen where you can't use projectile oki on him which can fuck with your normal gameplan. His 66TK growler is also good to get around projectiles. Nu still probably wins the MU because Azrael has broken legs but you have to play it a bit differently.

In CPEx, the Hazama BnB it taught you wasn't optimal, but it wasn't far off, it was fairly easy to execute and it taught you critical combo starters and means to continue it. Some of them were pretty decent.

In +R I once fought the same Eddie who destroyed me when I was new, I learned to backdash and destroyed him.

To be fair, there's some legitimately good ideas in combo trials. I always viewed them more as proof of concepts rather than being a guide to combos with the character. Like a subtle way of explaining how the character works and what you can do with them. But I do think there could be a better way of doing it though. Still worth checking out.

I fought a Sol player in +R for 300 games straight and only won when he switched off to to Slayer, but I still had fun learning how to defend against his bullshit, and how to get in without get hit immediately, or baiting out certain options and watching out for his baits, and applying different combos based on where on the screen I hit him, or avoiding getting Counter Hit by his frame traps, or doing some absolutely retarded plays and managing to get a single life off him solely due to gimmicks. I would have never gotten that experience from stomping an absolute scrub, although I presume he might have gotten bored fighting me (the absolute scrub)

The formula for success is easy to learn, hard to master, which is Soulslikes are so common, but fighting games are hard to learn, hard to master, which is why their communities remain small. In Elden Ring or whatever it's pretty damn obvious what you did wrong when you get stomped. In a fighting game, not so obvious unless you already "get" them. And most people can't be bothered to get to that level.
