everything being monetized as fuck

They were just ahead of their time. Everyone nowadays has a smart TV or something they plug into their TV to make it one, that's what they were going for here but the market didn't exist yet.

But Xbox as a brand pretty much died and didn't recover to this day despite bajillions spent.

Add Hogwarts Legacy and Veilguard to that list.

The claw and wounding in Iceborne. Why did they add that shit to an already functional game? Why was it so damn strong it felt really bad if you didn't keep up with it? Why did we need a second mounting system? Why was it so easy for some weapons to wound and a huge pain in the ass for others? Why do I have to aim like 10 feet away from the head to actually land on the head instead of the back left foot?
I'd rather get in a merry go round with a bunch of gen 2 Rathians until I look like an NFL running back's wife. I'd rather shovel T-rex shitpiles at Jurrasic Park for a dayjob. It's janky, it sucks, and I don't like it.

Is angry Nintendo nerd really a literal retard? I heard hes a former shortbus kid and only comes off as normal cause his shits pre scripted.

PS2 FFXI

Stupid faggots

Yeah, because Amazon and Google ate their lunch by launching their own smart TV sticks for a fraction of the price. If they hadn't force-bundled kinect and released a low-end version at around $200 they could've competed in that space and made shitloads of money.

I still remember the PS Showcase lmao

That's fine though, because 9 was the last good game in the mainline series, so it already a dead franchise to me and anyone else with a shred of taste and self-respect. 10 was pure dogshit, and everything that came after was putrid trash as well.

Makes more copies then there were Atari systems sold.

Skyward Sword and Hyrule Historia

Sony propping this up as this "AMAZING NEXT GEN EXPERIENCE OMG" western VN in their showcase and then some anons make their own version using whatever they saw in the trailer that's more well received than that game just shows you how out of touch Sony is nowadays

Everything from FF Type-0. It's like they made the game as fucking insufferable as possible to play:

the SOS system where you must do a short challenge to obtain an item. It you fail, your character is killed. Also the fucking thing doesn't work when there's in-game dialogue in the area, meaning you either wait for the dialogue to finish or skip the area and move on to the next

you have a time limit between missions when you're inside the academy, and doing certain things decreases time. Also going to the overworld drains time even faster.

you can take only one sidequest at a time.

if you're grinding in the overworld, the game punishes you for it by spamming level 99 Behemots if you go to another area.

if you die on a mission, you can't revive a character until you finish that mission.

unavoidable moments where one of your characters is killed off for no reason.

most missions ends with the player fighting bosses that are 10 or 20 levels above the player, and they can oneshot your character.

only the three active characters from your party gains experience. You're forced to grind to level up everyone before the point of no return, or else the game becomes unwinnable.

Fallout 76 and Starfield

Yes, that's what they are. Out of touch. It's not like any of the shit we see from these massive corporations are on purpose. Nah, Sony is out of touch, and Disney made bad Star Wars movies because they just don't know any better. You niggers are beyond hopeless.

It's like an entire company stopped believing in analysis and critical thinking for 5 years, and threw hundreds of million dollars in the toilet. It's surreal and will be analysed in the future once the kike/libtard cancer is gone.

Stamina in Diablo 2

Every NMH game is a trainwreck in its own way

Fallout 3 guides you to a super mutant that tells you he can go into an irradiated room and get a thing for you.
He then does just that.
Said super mutant is automatically added as a companion, meaning most players would have him with them at the end.
No one at bethesda noticed that this would contradict the end of the game, where you have to go into an irradiated room to press a few keys and die.

FF7 remake

Gained a die hard loyal fanbase with FF7

Change the gameplay from turn based to action

Change the story

Add in irrelevant characters

What the fuck were they thinking?

I swear people who criticize 4's writing were flashed by the Men in Black because holy fuck Fallout 3 has some of the worst writing i've ever seen in a major licence

Metal Gear Survive

Make game mechanics more complex

Mobs now have Deaths Door so you know have to successfully roll killing blows.

Cumbersome relationship system you the player have little control over

Party stays static the entire run

make modding much harder

I've never seen a sequel get almost overwhelmingly rejected and called inferior, sure some people like it but even those who like it still say the first is better. I am mad because I thought it was going to be based around Mountains of Madness and it only ends up being a backdrop basically.

Why can't both be terrible?

I still don't understand how the PR/Heads at Ubisoft looked at "Gamer's should get comfortable not owning their games" and said "Yes this won't cause us backlash or look retarded". I've never took a business class in my life and even I know you don't say shit like that to people who give you money.

Hogwart's Legacy was a massive success. Cry harder chud.

One could forgive that one misstep with X if they got their shit togheter, but XI and on cemented the end of an era.

At least KQ5 can be beaten without anything extra nowadays. KQ6 has the Isle of Copy Protection which requires you to break out the manual, and if you bought it digitally in the last couple of decades, you have to access it digitally.

Cry harder chud.

You seemed to be a bit confused there buddy. The troons were the ones "boycotting" it and harassing streamers that played it.

Any time they add ai

The opening hours of Resident Evil Village. The amount of scripted setpieces is just obscene especially when you compare it to the opening moments of Resident Evil 4 they desperately wanted to copy

Takaya Imamura desperately wants to make a Star Fox sequel

Miyamoto suggests adding a gimmick to it

Barely at the concept phase, pic related catches their eyes

Said game was pretty much near completion, could have gotten it out around the 2000 holiday season or even early 2001

Rare's higher ups go along with the bullshit Miyamoto suggested right before they even show the game at E3 2000

Game gets delayed TWO years just to accommodate the changes

And then RUSHED because of the Microsoft accusation

Final result was a hastily cobbled game that was done and never revisited again, said link between Dinosaur Planet and Star Fox last appeared in the franchise in 2006

I played SFA in 2010 knowing full well about the changes to the original game and tried to accept it for what it's worth. Whatever I loved about that game was all Rare, not Nintendo. Seeing the DP prototype a few years back only made me resent what they did with it. Even in its unfinished state it was more cohesive and had more going for it. The story, the graphics, the music, everything. Again after 2006 everything from Adventures literally doesn't exist and even in Command, they botched a reference to Krystal's roots in the localization. Had Rare stayed with Nintendo, maybe they could have managed Star Fox akin to Donkey Kong. Now that would have been karmic justice.

Disney's handling of Star Wars has been crazy retarded, but I think the way they've gone about games is some of the worst.

They were trying to push their High Republic bullshit, leading up to the Acolyte, which flopped mainly because it was terrible, but also because no one ever heard of the High Republic shit because it was all in shitty comics and YA novels.

They put out a ton of Star Wars games, couldn't just one of them actually have tried to push their new big multimedia project? Back in the 2000s there was so much Clone Wars related shit everywhere; Games, Books, Animated Series, Comics, Toys, the whole shebang. Disney couldn't even get ONE (1) game based on their new era out the door. Instead every single SW game is more pre-ANH shit.

I'm not even mad because NuWars is shit no matter what, but it's just shockingly retarded for a series that has historically had huge success with multimedia projects (Clone Wars, Shadows of the Empire, some other EU stuff.)

WHAT WAS HE THINKING

IMG_3573.png - 731x366, 134.78K

hey settle down okay?

80$ games

I know the opening of 7 is a speed runners nightmare

The sad ironic thing is that Dinosaur Planet probably would have faded into obscurity far faster than it did as apart of Star Fox had it remained as an original IP released at the very tale end of the N64's lifespan. It likely would have just been Conker's BFD 2.0: a well liked (if somewhat controversial) cult classic that bombed in its era and probably dug Rare a deeper grave financially.

Still, perhaps that would have been a better way for Krystal to go out rather than pic related.

ending3Part2.png - 256x192, 49.39K

is bames really not trying to tan his bald spot, it would look better than an all white kippah sitting behind him like he's secretly an egg

No doubt it would have sold poorly, but I'd take a cult classic that Rare could have put in their 2015 compilation over whatever the fuck they did with Adventures. It could have gotten a sequel or a remake assuming they ended it on a cliffhanger like the story and dialogue suggested.

More like, they believed in it 100% for one year and thought their conclusions would hold for the 8 years the game spent in development as if nothing had changed at all.
Hance releasing an Overwatch clone 10 years too late.

And yet liveservice is becoming the norm because nobody outside of a handful of nerds cares in the slightest.
Also, blame Riot.

I get the feeling a hypothetical Dinosaur Planet 2 probably would have been one of those things we heard was in development for Xbox or Xbox 360 but then ultimately canned because the higher ups at Rare or Microsoft wanted more Kinect games or something, basically what happened with the likes of Conker's Other Bad Day, Kameo 2 or Perfect Dark Core.

post yfw gritty realistic krystal like in pic related

you mean when he was plagiarising stuff, betrayed his friends, or....

YOU KNOW WHAT'S BULLSHIT?! BALDING!!!!!

gacha elements in XC2.

Point taken. I would have still went with Rare taking the reigns of Star Fox, moreso with another game following behind Assault just to one-up Japan at their own game again. They sure as hell aren't doing anything of worth with Microsoft.

No, I mean when he thought of all the people he could sell Cinemassacre to, he decided to pick Silvermania.
What WAS he thinking ?

well, he didn't sell it, they are like his managers and producers

Level-5 is one big "What were they thinking?" studio

IIRC it was a sale in all but name as he relinquished control over Cinemassacre in exchange for Silverman paying off the company's debts.

maybe you are thinking of someone else?

Gotta go with pic related. I played the shit out of DOW 1 back in the day and was ecstatic to learn about a sequel, only to be devastated when I learned everything was streamlined to a fucking T with the worst offense being that they removed base building altogether and turned it into a pseudo RPG. I was a broke college student at the time and ended up torrenting it and deleting it after about 30 minutes. Even worse was how it got stellar reviews which prompted Relic to go full retard and turn DOW 3 into a fucking MOBA.

Bunch of fucking idiots, hopefully they don't fuck up DOW 4 but my expectations are low.

Solid game that got knee-jerk reaction.

We're going to make this game almost completely silent except for some extremely muffled sound effects for combat because the protagonist is deaf

we're also going to make it heavily story driven

most of the story is conveyed by dialogue

dialogue you can't hear because there's no audio

Human Head really were a fucking special breed of retards

url(114).jpg - 640x360, 40.5K

Turning Mortal Kombat 1 into a weird assist fighter (which was a thinly-veiled attempt to monetize the game even more by selling nostalgia).

Don Matrick telling people not to buy an Xbox if they didn't have online. You really had to be there, I've never seen the console wars swing so hard in my life and Xbox has never recovered.

Ironically, taking over Dinosaur Planet is the reason why Starfox is still relevant. ESPECIALLY Krystal.

If it wasn't for Krystal and Starfox porn in general, Starfox would have fallen into obscurity long ago, with it only being relevant in people's minds via Smash. Just like Ice Climbers.

Some puzzles can be solved by different items

:)

Some can't, and if you used the wrong item you can't complete the puzzle, and we won't tell you and you'll just be searching for a solution like an asshole FOREVER

:(

Sonic game is too short

instead of making more speed based levels, they create an entire gameplay style based on God of War and it takes up 70% of the game

latest.jpg - 1403x1760, 464.24K

This is the only mainline Mega Man game in which you can't jump-cancel out of the slide. They introduce the slide in 3, it's like that for the next few games

and then MM6 won't let you, you have to commit to the full slide every time. Then in 7 it's back to the way it was before.

What were they thinking? It's so baffling.

Megaman6_box.jpg - 256x355, 60.39K

More like where did James go.
You're seriously telling me he wasn't replaced?

Severely autistic

iirc Sega has already said that making those fast paced levels is incredibly laborious which kinda makes sense since you're running past everything so fast, which is why we got shit like "Find the 3 pieces of the emerald" or "Fish for the frog" in Adventure 1 while Sonic levels occupy like 20% of the game. Yeah its fucking lame.

This game. This fucking game. I'm surprised some of the shit I didn't hear about, because god damn. I was prepared for running hurting you. I was prepared for not being able to target enemies. I was prepared for having to choose between exp or items. But I wasn't prepared for the loads of other shit in this game.

almost every treasure chest in the game gives you worthless shit like the most basic healing items

the only way to get good chests is to kill all monsters on the current screen in a certain amount of time in a specific mode where you get no exp

enemies can randomly break your equipment, which is fucking expensive

new party members join at level 1, with one exception

early segment where the MC sucks ass because he was winning a tournament and the king decided to take away his ability to breakdance

every character that isn't the MC barely matters in combat

MC gets powerups from dragons, except instead of just giving him new attacks, they just give you equipment that gives you skills, meaning you can only use one at a fucking time

absolutely pathetic ending, main bad guy just dies by falling from a building, he's not even the final boss

lds.jpg - 1024x1024, 208.75K

Pretty sure I'm not, James put himself into a financial hole making the AVGN movie and since he worked on it full time, behind schedule and over budget while the channel and website were on a complete drought and generating nothing. Things took some time to pick back up while Cinemassacre was going into debt, and that's when the "buyout" gave James an out.

The main creator of that insists that they always planned on making a car building and racing game, but pretty much everything else points to the fact that it started development as "banjo threeie" and then they were forced to change it.

most of the graphics and character designs are still SOVLful

Banjo controls pretty well outside of vehicles

they made an entire character as a mouthpiece for whining about how higher-ups insist platformers aren't popular anymore and something different needs to be done

like c'mon

Quasimorph

one of the biggest complaints people have about the game is how much of a "fuck you" mechanic hunger is because of how quickly satiation drains and how easily you can get dicked over because you might just get fucked by RNG due to finding nothing but a single lolipop on a mission

the dev's solution? Add a new class with a perk that decreases satiation drain

except the perk is just a temporary buff that only lasts for a short number of turns

and it only triggers when you use addictive substances meaning you need to carry a bunch of shit for treating addiction as well as addictive substances in addition to food

Shit almost feels like a passive aggressive "fuck you" from the devs

Microsoft doesn’t make their xbox studios *do* anything. Thats the problem. Thats what every ex-Rare employee says.

The only time microsoft forced one of their xbox studios to do something was when they prevented lionhead from putting a black woman on the cover of Fable 3 (Page I assume).

any game that lets you rebind everything except the movement inputs

I thought there was an anime of it where layton gets shamed for choosing puzzles over being a good father
