Immersive

The zoomer brain can only comprehend slick minimalistic UI

"UX" became a field of study offered at universities and thus became standardized into soulless mobile phone slop. Now every game UI is just the same minimalist boxes and hamburger menus and infinitely scrollable lists.

Are you fucking retarded?
That was a rhetorical question btw

-Lazy devs
-ADHD zoom zoom gaymers

The default HUD and font size has also been shrinking so much, it's borderline impossible to tell prompts apart in some modern bidya.

It requires effort and knowledge about the final scope of the game. Bland UI elements are quick to make using readymade tools and you can modify them with no problems if you drop a feature. Most things in immersive UI needs to be custom and it's hard to change it if plans change. My favourite example of this is the menu in Fallout 1, where one option is broken off because it was removed irl. It fit the theme of the game to just scracth it off, so they got lucky.

OIP[1].jpg - 474x355, 24.67K

How come videogames don't exist anymore?

it should be done more

Zoomers and corpos

because normalfags are retarded and need quest markers? some devs used to take months and months designing part of maps to be intuitive but it doesn't matter
fucking yellow paint and/or quest markers are a must if you want your game to be successful nowadays

Somebody decided this was better.

For me it's the Alone in the Dark: Inferno coat inventory.

UI design prioritizes intuitivity over all

It's not the contents of the map OP is talking about, but the fact that the map is presented as a part of the game world rather than a separate entity. The critique of ubislop map design is valid, but missing the point of OP's post. Anyway I wish more devs would do this. I'll take maximalist or immersive UI over this streamlined bullshit any day.

UIs used to be designed by artists, now they are designed by UI professionals who studied it in college.

Zoomers and gen z can't imagine apples so deviation from current trends leaves them dazed and confused.

This with no HUD elements at all.

I had no idea how fun and immersive it is to play like that.
DESU it all started with Dying Light for me, I deactivated EVERYTHING could never go back since them.

dumbest part is that in Assassins Creed where it pretty much originated, it wasn't a lazy choice at first, it was a genuine stylistic choice, the UI was supposed to contrast heavily with the world because the UI was meant to be part of the Animus

But somewhere along the way game designers forgot this, even Ubisoft game designers

Meds

KCD 2 has better UI than that of tranny ring, basic bitch UI with black gradient, soulless
youtube.com/watch?v=37HqCcFq7xI

I think it's more the intention to showcase how the sites of grace direct the player to other important areas without even needing to open your map if you don't want
And that it's not just something random but actively part of the plot of the game

NOW

Is there an UI as tight as the dead space UI?

I just had the same thought few days ago.
Even started looking for mods to make Skyrim playable without quest marks and player position on the map and mod the paper version of the map.

I think Metro games had HUDless modes

Based ESL-kun. That’s exactly how you should play; especially with FPS games, and especially with horror-themed FPS games. There are only benefits. Try to refute me, you can't.

No crosshairs

This makes weapon choice even more important and impactful. No more sniping with shotguns. Add strafing and proper recoil to it and it becomes perfect.
Aiming can still be done like in more modern games (pic related).

No ammo count

Keep the player guessing. Subtle cues like the character shouting they’re low on ammo when you're down to your last clip. No need for incessant reloading and no magical reffiling either, reload when you're empty! Now there's a proper reason for a character to shout "RELOADING!".

No health bar

Instead of a health bar, use visual cues like screen blurring, subtle color fading, grunting, muffled sounds, and impaired movement. It makes the game way more immersive, since low health is actually treated like a debuff instead of just a number going down.

You can cut everything else too. You don’t need a big “E” to appear when there’s an interactable. Just make the camera zoom slightly or have the character reach out when close enough.

And the downside? Shitters and noobs complaining they don't know what to do! Boohoo!. I could go on and on about this. If games can manage to be hard and say "fuck you" to normalfags they can do the same for HUD. Hell Dark Souls got it reputation for refusing to turn down the difficulty.

Fuck HUDfags!

The Kingdom Hearts UI is a product of its time. It had to be simple with bold letters due to being SD at the time.

die out?

depends on the game if you want to pause the action or not

crafting shit in my bag

get killed by a mutate getting the jump on me

The market got increasingly retarded.

I actually need this. If I have a way point I forget what Im doing and run right in to an occupied base. Guard rails and hand holding make you give up critical thinking as you go into autopilot.

This was the first open world game I ever played and I remember thinking the map was so cool and useful and being unbelievably disappointed when all the other open world games I played after it didn't have a map like this.

Ammo checking in games other than Peter Jackson's King Kong?

Far cry 5 full guerilla mode is top gaymen.

HUD off

all the usual indicators (enemy alertness, grenade indicators etc) are turned off

no fast travelling

only using "simple" weapons to reflect the need for durability in a guerilla situation

no using scopes on pistols/shotguns/assault rifles

bow optional for lmao rambo

at least hard difficulty just so enemies are tanky enough that a full frontal assault is a bad idea

no using the super potions thingys you can make

This doesn't make the game into some hardcore sim (nor are these rules intending to do so) but it does dramatically increase the immersion in the game world ubisoft built and makes combat a little more challenging which creates a more tense experience inline with what the story is portraying.

The average user is so fucking dumb that they can't read a map that literally points their heading and gives them a marker for where they need to go.
So why bother making anything interesting, they're too fucking stupid to appreciate it anyway.

This but with a first-person RPG.
I don't want to see numbers on my screen telling a sword is better than the other, I want to hear it from the the rumours that it's made of mythril and thus better than steel.
Then I want to find it wield it and see how now I can down enemies with only one or two hits instead of three or five.

Fuck numberfags.
Fuck UI fags.
Go play in the wikia.

Sounds cool, how does it work?

No HUD is better than the phone game slop that devs use for modern audiences, but a stylized HUD that fits with the world is infinitely better than either of them

the only way for Far Cry 5 to be remotely interesting is by completely gimping yourself and pretending you're having an immersive experience

lol
lmao

that option select from KH3 looks so soulful, though, it even has a little town around it

It is a shame you have no imagination - it must bring many struggles in day-to-day life.

Effort and creativity are dying.

As long as it is:

An sci-fi helmet/googles with AI inferface.

A magic spell that makes you able to see these elements

Or something similar then yes.

If it's just numbers or UI elements floating there for no reason, then pic rel.

Keep the player guessing

kill yourself

IRL you can tell how much ammo your gun has from the weight of the magazine, and you can FEEL if you have shit on your tactical vest or pockets, I fucking hate the no hud trend from CoD4 snot nosed brats and wish them ED, I wish the same for you as well

Found the shitter.

found the mentally impaired nigger that is still mentally stuck in 2008
keep pining for your long gone childhood/teenage years, they're not coming back

Both look like utter shit.

Look how mad he is by being called a shitter.
That's when you know you hit the nail in the head.
Lmao what a shitter.

Its weird how it ended up like this.
But to be fair alot of PS2 era games had the jankiest fucking "UI"... If you could call it that

good thing it's a video game and not irl
stay mad, retard

In this same thread there's mention of a game with an immersive ammo check, go be a shitter somewhere else.

Fuck onnoxious UIfags.

The top row is good, everything below is just a disguised witcher sense button. Might as well have quest markers.

Retard

disguised witcher sense button

you are beyond brain damaged

Because it's easier to just use a generic jeet-tier stock/bundle UI

press button

THE OBJECTIVE IS THAT WAY

Yeah ok, whatever you say.

KCD1-2 has an oblivion-esque console faggot UI, but somehow it is worse than oblivion's

did you know you can mark things on a map in real life?

Does the wind start blowing their way?

MIND=BLOWN

You said EVERYTHING under the top row, you put yourself in this retarded position it is your job to get out

Or I could just ignore pedantic autists looking for a gotcha.

You got owned and you cannot recover

For all the things Bethesda Fallout does horribly wrong their take on the Pipboy is great

Farcry 2s open world and navigating it are easily the worst things about it. Those roads surrounded by unpassable shit get old really fucking quick and it's always the main thing that I dread about it when considering a potential replay.

People bitch about an easily accessible, intuitive fast travel system and this game is a perfect example as to why they're necessary.

Muh bus stations

Insufferable to have to travel to constantly just to get to a CORNER EDGE of the map.

because that takes effort and passion, anathema to modern d*velopers

so they got lucky

there's no such thing as luck in art, only the internal necessity that drives the artist toward the realization of an aesthetic vision

I was wondering if there was at least one anon ITT who has at least half a brain. I'm pleasantly surprised.

normal traffic sign from mafa as indicator of something

have you ever been outside?

what game has the best UI?

We're talking about diegetic HUDs, not what they're used for

Icons only appear after being discovered.
You can even mod them as being hand drawn.

its better to have a console-friendly menu with volumetric fog that takes 4 seconds to open.

For the same reason yellow paint exists, game testers are giga retards and the end consumer has to pay for it

game testers are giga retards

the end consumer has to pay for it

The end consumer more often than not is just as retarded as the testers

So is the "guerilla mode" something you can select or are you just gimping yourself?

to difficult for nudevs and their indian slaves to make
to difficult for gamercattle to understand

What is maximalist?

Why are indians allowed to post here?

Would you say nier automata does this? It is a menu UI but it is part of the world at the same time.

Nier Automata

Essentially offhandedly imply that I've finished the entire game numerous times

You goy filtered!

Oh look, a mouthbreather.

well yes but the ui itself in the pipboy is also very shit

did sons of the forest have a diegetic map?
i remember the inventory but have no memory of what map it used

Immersion is just a useless buzzword used s a crutch by shitters. Games are meant to be beaten and that means finding the most effective way to overcome their difficulty no matter what. Minmaxing is the intended way to play and gets seen as a dirty or taboo thing by people who write for polygon and actual idiots.

Where is this image from? I can't find anything about it, I'm just interested in the harmonica gun

In this same thread there's mention of a game with an immersive ammo check

the only game I know that does something that isn't retarded is Red Orchestra/Rising Storm
either way, no hud niggers deserve a slow and painful death, like I said before IRL it's very easy to know what shit you have by just feeling its weight or taking a look

You enjoy video games differently and that's okay

they're copyrighted mechanics and other games legally cannot use them

I've never seen someone be so upset about people liking no HUD and the reason you have is insane

Yeah true, it's like they learned nothing from the efforts to fix it in 3/NV

It can be harder to do depending on the setting of the game and what info you're actually trying to convey. Something like a physical map that your character actually uses is doable in pretty much any type of game, but having your health bar be a sensible physical object is harder(dead space comes to mind).
If your UI can't exist in the "world" of the game, at least make it stylized to the game's aesthetic.

He's deathly afraid of losing his precious numbers.

the direction signs dynamically spawn based on your current objective

>>Ubigay Farcry is the BEST we will EVER HAVE in terms of a guerrilla warfare game that isn't just straight up milsim "press F for five minutes to bandage every scratch" autist simulator

This shit is so unbelievably grim to me.

Games are meant to be beaten

You need to properly plan for it in production.
You need cooperation between multiple departaments
You need skilled employees.
Because of that diagetic UI is virtually impossible to outsource.

huh really? I never noticed it

You should play Peter Jackson's King Kong

I got interested when anon mentioned the ammo-check mechanics, I'll give it a try!

Slopker

Get that fucking SHIT out of my sight.

STALKER

Guerrilla warfare

Idiot.

Outside of sci-fi shit, is there a good way to do a diegetic health bar that isn't some tattoo or gadget on your arm?

No, not really.

Normalfags are fucking stupid and, even worse, lazy

Just add a red vignette to the screen and increase the sound of player breathing/heartbeat as you take more damage.

Oh wait, that sucks balls!

Health bars are not needed, most new games have health regen built-in anyway.
Just make the screen blurry, colors dimmed, sounds muffled, ovement slower or slugisher the closer you are to dying.

It can stabilized with time.

uh scratches and bruising that close up/fade away slow enough that you dont notice?

scientific inaccurate heart rate monitor maybe?

You're a gamer. The POSTERCHILD of the term "lazy"

UI positions got invaded by smartphone UX designers

by far. Elden Ring is generic in terms of UI. KCD2 is pure soul, same as the first.

when your new game is so shit you have to dust off your 20 year old title and try to repackage it AGAIN

Oh wait, that sucks balls!

But what a number to it and then it doesn't!
UIfags are so gay.

KCD 2 IS PC CENTRIC. It has drag and drop. Troonring doesn't

According to normalfags

They didn't even bother fixing any of the shit wrong with it either

They're almost always right in this case however.

What the fuck? Didn't they just release the trilogy as a collection?

It's THAT console release repackaged for Steam :^)

just play a vr game if you want to have that kind of faggotry

ZHIDorovich at it again I see

You WILL buy it AGAIN

Tbf a lot of games let you turn off the hints and arrows and stuff, but on your first playthru you can't really know if you actually miss something by doing so.

How is some normie watching TV for 8 hours superior to me playing videogames for the same length of time? At least my brain is involved in some form of puzzle solving.

I'm using le more of my brain!

Nice cope. No, you're not.

Pirating dogshit you probably already have or own

Why?

Yes I am

Not really. You are also just as inactive and fat as they are too so you're not really winning.

Yes really. Even a platformer requires timing, puzzle solving, pattern recognition. I dunno why you mentioned physical exercise because thats entirely irrelevant. 8 hours of videogames will engage your brain more than 8 hours of TV, because they're by definition an interactive medium.

Anon...

Why are gamers some of the dumbest fucking people I've consistently ever met if this is supposedly the case?

I neither know nor care about who you choose to associate with.

because you're sheltered

No because health bars are already a huge abstraction from reality and the real world analog (pain) can’t be conveyed through the exclusively audio visual medium of games.

Gaymer calls me sheltered

Pot screaming kettle, nigger.

You can continue to flail your arms and deny reality. I got games to play

So you don't play videogames but hang out on the videogame board?

You lurk Anon Babble despite not being a videogame player? Impressively sad.

That just tastes like prunes

The more "out of game" infos you can convey, the less you have to work to make those informations feel immersively conveyed.
You can only add so many POIs on a real looking map.

they give it to you for free you own the og games on steam

Because corporate retards though that good UI = good UX

Based

When did everyone decide that navigation as a skill was taboo in vidya

KH2 did that too and in KH3 it's a lot more sterilized.
