Should I play dark forces from the beggining or just go into jedi outcast?

how much important story is in dark forces? It seems fun but I dont want to waste my time, should i just start with DF2

remaster isn't really that big of a change. fan ports do just as good of a job. the game also just runs well enough on its own. or at least it does on my machine

nta but honestly df1 and 2 aren't all that different in quality (gameplay wise). df2 does some stuff better but then it also does some other stuff much worse. i wouldn't really recommend one over the other. if you only care about the story then i wouldn't bother with either. otherwise, play both whenever you can. maybe wait for a steam sale, they always go real cheap.

DF2 is peak star wars kino, and also establishes a lot of JOs plot points.

Dark Forces II and its expansion are kino and even if you don't like Doom its worth playing the first one just so you can get to those

Dark Forces is suprising good given it's age. Although I've only played it through The Force Engine.

I would however avoid Mysteries of the Sith as it is pure garbage.

Buy the originals and then download TheForceEngine for Dark Forces, Jedi Knight Remaster and Mysteries of the Sith Remaster mods. The only difference from the remaster is slightly higher res textures and the original cutscenes instead of the new ones. Plus Jedi Knight and Mysteries of the Sith don't have remasters officially. These mods basically do what gzDoom does for Doom but with the DF games. They absolutely hold up as fun boomer shooters.

The final boss is literally just a gimmick puzzle fight where the answer is a bit glowing picture on the wall.

df1 is skippable, mediocre doom clone. df2 is worth trying.

df2 has shitty lightsaber combat mechanics, huge and convoluted map designs that make using the map impossible, godawful platforming, and some really annoying enemies and enemy placement (some carried from df1).
