Depends on what you liked about it but the most sensible choice is probably the DMX 1 and 2 since those got localized and can actually be found at reasonable prices, they focus more on the battling aspect with a quest mode that rewards you with items that might let you beat higher stage opponents with lower stage mons (something you want since a lot of the evos are locked behind first beating them in quest mode). The evo trees might be a bit nonsense sometimes but if you liked the DM 20 you shouldn't have issue with random shit like a fox evolving to a lion evolving to a cerberus evolving to a fox girl cosplayer evolving to a dragon knight.

Yeah had the pendulum Z been localized I might have recommended them to you as well since they're similar in a way (but most branching is done via jogressing instead of level ranges, efforts, types of digimon defeated and care mistakes) but them being JP only makes acquiring any of them a money sink, goddamn scalpers. Same goes for the colors since they're Premium Bandai exclusives so you'll only get them from resellers at prohibitive prices. Love the fact that you can swap their backgrounds around and that most change based on time of day but that doesn't matter if you only get one since you get most backgrounds from fighting other COLOR versions, though I guess if you know how to mod them you can unlock all backgrounds without needing more than one.

This discussion is strictly about Colors, if you don't like how Pendulums force you to jogress for any sort of deviation from your evolution path once your digimon reaches champion I can respect that and admit that the X line is better in that regards even though I enjoy planning out schedules for multiple simultaneous pendulums to take advantage of that jogressing to fill out the albums however the DM Color is not the X line, the DM Color already has 0 fucking branching once you hit champion (save for the added Chimeramon in version 3 which really they should have followed its example and made more ultimates like it in other models). DMX Color someday...
