Does anyone even like the cosmic exploration shit they added? I haven't resubbed since the launch of DT and don't plan to. Island sanctuary was a huge let-down for me and my enthusiasm for crafting/gathering content has practically died.

The problem is that it sets nothing up and it's fucking boring. ARR is an example of what you're talking about. It has a ton of setup and worldbuilding and introductory stuff. Dawntrail introduces nothing of value despite being longer than ARR. It's just paced awfully. Dawntrail does less setup, character building, and worldbuilding than literally any other expansion despite being the second longest one.

Worth noting is that worldbuilding and setup SHOULDN'T be boring. Especially in a fantasy story. Worldbuilding is one of the main things fantasy fans come to fantasy stories for. The best way to engross an audience in your fantasy story is to build a world that gets them interested and intrigued and wanting to learn more. That's what Shadowbringers did and why it was beloved. Everybody loved the First. Setup should naturally intrigue the player and catch their interest so that they want to know where it leads. Dawntrail doesn't do that with it's worldbuilding or setup because the tiny bits of either it has are fucking boring as shit and lame as hell.

It's much more like Ishgard Restoration than Island Sanctuary. It's alright. It could do with some more rewards and I don't like the setup or framing nearly as much as Ishgard Restoration. I also preferred having the Diadem to source resources to give to crafters and so on to make it more collaborative, rather than it basically just giving the mats to crafters for free and the gatherers just doing really difficult levequests.

I'm kind of waiting for the foray.

Dawntrail was nothing more than a blatant DEI angle and calling it a story is an insult to anything they built up before.
They've clearly given up on the fucking story when main-stay characters have less agency and relevance than a fucking random NPC who claims to love peace and happiness out of fucking nowhere.

If the story was gonna be this ass the least they could have done is focus entirely on building up the core mechanics and job identity of already existing jobs, but instead we got picto and viper which was honestly disappointing in terms of design. Corsair would have been better than viper and picto just feels out of place given the fact that Krile got absolutely sidelined for Woke Lamutt.

The wait-time between major patches is doing them no favors either. I wonder how much of a player die-off we're gonna end up seeing before the next expac which has to make up for not just DT but EW's later patches which sucked, too.

I have a feeling that people that say this don’t realize just how impossible it is nowadays.
Now there’s a certain expectation for a new game to be complete. That if it’s too “basic” at launch, it’ll be blasted and dropped, or it’ll take a decade of development and still be blasted (Ashes of Creation).
Lot of people forget how long it took this game to get its legs since the relaunch of ARR as QoL and new features were added and the content cycles were figured out.

A lot of people are just dropping the game. FRU was pretty bad compared to DSR and TOP. A bunch of my old friends in ulti PF have unsubbed as well.
Gameplay being unchanging since Shadowbringers is the real issue. Everything's so fucking static in this game that I know the exact GCD I should be at at any given point in a fight after enough pulls. It makes it boring to play.

Not Meteor, no, the closest we got was Ardbert and Lamitt making a cameo in chapter 2.

They've had years and an enormous surplus of cash from wowbabies to do something with the game, and instead we got Dawntrail, a piss poor ending to a near decade long story with multiple major asspulls, followed by a fucking horrible post msq wrap up for the rest of the expansion.
Only to be hit with fucking Dawntrail that continued the clear trend of objectively bad writing Endwalker started. Not to mention, that Yoshi for months leading up to launch promised over and over this would be the most content packed expansion ever, and so far its nowhere near as promised.
For most of the games life I've genuinely enjoyed it, an okay mmo, that had bits of great writing and some really neat takes on mmo fights/raids, but they've really, genuinely rested on their laurels and taken their foot off the gas. Not to mention the gutting and homogenization of most of the combat jobs.

There was a genuinely huge downturn in writing quality from SHB to EW.
