Why is COE 33 so successful? It basically seems like FFX, a very linear story driven game that players criticized for years.

FFX was very successful as well

Yeah with a cliche plot twist that got shit on when other games did it as far back as 20 years ago. It's an astroturfed game. The people who genuinely like it aren't jrpg fans.

astroturf_33.png - 750x750, 834.48K

Yeah, 25 years ago. And again, the game was criticized a lot by older FF fans who complained about the linearity. Square spent years trying to find the right formula.

Most of the genres is story linear by design

Because it's inspired by FFX. The greatest game in the FF franchise.

In 2001 people bitched about the linearity

Did they? On AOL Messenger? What "people" are you talking about?

Good. Wasn't trying to be a jrpg fan. Most of that shit is weaboo garbage anyway. I'm a turn-based fan. And it appeals to I. Give a fuck about how you feel about the issue.

Did they? On AOL Messenger?

You know internet already existed in 2001 and forums were a thing.

the game was criticized a lot by older FF fans who complained about the linearity

If anybody did then its a very small almost nonexistent minority. Milllions of people who played the game werent posting on the internet about vidya in 2001. You 're essentially lying about FF fans

"COE"

stopped reading there

If anybody did then its a very small almost nonexistent minority.

It really wasn't. Which is also why FFX-2 is so different from X. Square answered directly to the complaints from the older fans.

It's not japanese, that's literally it

You are a liar. Use the Wayback Machine and you tell me how many people bitched about FFX's supposed linearity.
I love to bring this up to idiots like you. Mi'Hen Highroad. It's literally a straight road. Surely that's linear?
But you have the Yuna Fight, The Chocobo Eater fight that punishes you if you lose, some good lore, and the Al-Bhed and Yevonites teaming up to take on a greater threat, religious intrigue, and that's hardly half of it, the multiple involved side quests that determine whether a character dies or not.
But please, tell me how linear FFX is.

criticized for years

nigga FFX is like one of the most beloved FFs. Every time people ask where should I start with FF everyone tell them to play X. Are you retarded?

It's less linear than you may think.
It has a proper overworld and many side areas, sure the story is linear, but many ffs are the same in that regard.

I played many final fantasies after hearing a lot of bad things about them said by the "fans"
And they were always wrong. Even the stinkers like FF13 were good.
Also saying that FF13 is linear is just stright up not true. Sure it is a corridor for the first 20 hours of the game and that is insane, but when it opens up its like a whole new game.
By the way, e33 opens up in act 3, too.

????

players criticized for years

Retarded jocks who never liked jrpgs criticized 10. Most jarpig fans liked it to varying degrees.

Who in the world is complaining about linearity in a fucking FF game? Every FF game is mostly linear up to the point that you unlock the Airship-adjacent movement option that lets you fart around across the entire worldmap.

e33 opens up in act 3, too.

It's more open than x and xiii starting from act I and getting swim for act II opens it up a lot.
It may not be Xenoblade but it's pretty open.

Racism hence all the "it's a JRPG but without all the, ugh, JAPANESE stuff" shit.

one of the greatest jrpgs of all time regularly praised as the best turn based combat of all time

criticized for years

Lmao

I can remind people bitching about FFX-2 for obvious reasons as I was one of them, but FFX was generally cherished among FF fans. Don't start me about FFXII btw, I was so disappointed.

slopeater thinks anyone is interested in his hot garbage opinions

e33 opens up in act 3

You don't even have the brain capacity to understand why people bitched about 13 if you think E33 is the same.

FFX is about a retarded blonde haired boy named Tidus who suddenly gets teleported from his dream-world and teams up with an ugly girl named Yuna to fight a gigantic whale named Sin. But the whale is actually his father who is really just an Aeon jobber for a parasite named Yu Yevon (obviously). This barely conscious parasite somehow effortlessly baits stupid religious people like Yuna into helping him create an endless cycle of whales that protect him while he's dreaming of Zanarkand, a place powered by dead people called "fayth" known for creating the worst underwater sport ever made.

Yes, FFX is just like Clair Obscure: Expedition 33.

No, it's still successful. The "remaster" sold millions. I don't know why you're equating random fans online with the success of a game

I do actually remember some complaints about the linearity, but everyone who did it also said the game was awesome and kicked ass anyway. Tidus was kinda a weak point since the beginning though, but people didn't even do the HAHAHAHAHA memes since we played the fucking game and understood he was doing that on purpose.

That's my wife you're bad mouthing you little bitch I'm coming over right now.

immature character has a real character arc and is then most mature one by the end

Anyone who criticizes tidus is low iq

The only real criticism I remembered from back then was how people ripped on Tidus for being an emotional gayboy.

I think you're thinking of XIII. Everyone loved X.

Its linear to an extent. It does feature a world map where you can explore optional side areas and find merchants around the world, The levels also reward you for exploration with lumina points and pictos. E33 is not quite linear to the same extent that X, XIII, and XVI were linear.

Don't be disingenuous.

I never said it was the same. E33 is more like older FFs where you can't explore the whole map from the beginning (you sail first, then fly e.t.c.).
I am just saying that people who bitch about FF after VII are faggots. They don't know what they want. They look at e33 and say this is how it's supposed to be, but e33 took inspiration from older FFs as well.
And because of their constant bitching we are where we are with XVI that doesn't even feel like FF and VII remake which is fucking dumb bloated multiverse bullshit into 3 fucking games

weeb absolute seething

How young are you? Were you around when the game came out? Even on Anon Babble some complained about FFX.
Because FFX was way more linear than the previous games.

Don't be a faggot. FF games aren't open worlds. There is always barriers until the end.

Why do you keep posting about a game you didn't play and imagining what it's about from titbits you heard?

and is then most mature one by the end

Let's not kid ourselves now. More mature than Wakka and Rikku, sure.

Even on Anon Babble some complained

I don't believe you. Anon Babble never complains.

the game was criticized a lot by older FF fans

The game was also loved by a lot of new (and old) FF fans, and it also sold extremely well.

More mature than everyone. No other character went from whiny teen to accepting their death as their waifu stands in front of them in tears begging them to stay.

Anon Babble didn't even exist when FFX came out

Using his baseline doesn't work here.
He's less mature than Auron.

Aaron was a faggot who couldn't accept his death.

Because it was 2001, it was the new FF on the new console and the visuals were for the time exceptional. Of course everyone was going to play this game.

I liked blitzball and grinding it was fun.

No, he could accept his death, he merely put it on hold because he had some promises to keep.

he could accept his death

When and why? Extremely late and only because he saw tidus character growth and trusted him to finish the job. Tidus is the best character in the game. That's why hes the protagonist.

he could accept his death

He literally couldn't

Yea, FFX was Square-Enix's first game for the PS2. A lot of people forget the hype and novelty around Square's entry into the 6th generation of consoles back then. FFX had massive FOMO energy.

Read the rest of the sentence

FFX was the last universally loved FF game.

No. The first sentence is false. You don't even understand aurons character arc.

It's really not that hard anon. It's easier to just read the rest of the sentence than make another dumb post
