I liked the WW sea but it did have too much empty space.
I think part of the issue was making it arranged into squares and ensuring there was only a single island and a couple copy-pasted enemy zones sprinkled in per square. It makes the world incredibly empty and formulaic.
It probably would have worked better if they made it smaller and crowded some of the islands into the same block, provided the gamecube wouldn't fuck up having to load more stuff.

I really liked how vast the world felt as a kid despite it being kinda small in a way. If they are making a BotW style game in a sea based map, it could be pretty cool

I remember one of WW's biggest problems with that a large amount of islands required hookshot to explore, basically making exploration anti-fun until the endgame

What was even the reason for them blocking other islands during the early game? It's not like it would break anything. I guess they didn't want people getting lost, but that's why you have a map. This is why randomizer Zeldas are so good.
