I've never played final fantasy but I did a little research because I really want to play more jrpgs after clair obscure.

ffxv

Trapped in development hell for 10 years. Half the story is outside the game in other shit and the open world is barren and boring. Tons of rushed shit even with the comically long dev cycle.

ffXVI

Literally not even an rpg. Plays like a watered down dmc with a decent world and story. Not a terrible game but its almost completely removed from an actual turn based rpg and as an action game is "ok"

ffVII remake and rebirth

From what I've seen its not so much a remake and more of a new retelling of the story changing almost every plot element. Like a pseudo sequel that's also a reboot or some shit. There are time ghost that try to make stuff happen like in the original and you fight them or something like that. It's heavily recommended you play the original VII first

I have a huge backlog and always excited to play my next games but after a big immersive game I crash out and either take a small break or play some very small game to reboot my brain.

I wanted to play VI and X the most, I also heard the gameplay of V is the most complex in the series with the job system. IX looks cute but from what I've seen you get a lot more out of it if you've played previous ffs and I don't want VII to be the first one I try

I still have some side content left. I kinda don't want to do it, because then the game would be over.

It's alright, but the story is very linear and a bunch of small things (e.g. driving mechanics) are way worse than you would expect from a game with those production values.
But I just generally don't like the "you have magical cancer aids that is quickly killing you, enjoy exploring this open world"-plot that both Cyberpunk and Baldur's Gate 3 have.

I've been painting and assembling minis since I finished Expedition 33. Nothing game wise will be as fulfilling for a long time so I'm just avoiding gaming for a month until the feeling wears off. Working on my Tau/Kroot 1k army while my wife is working on her Necron army. We just got an Iwata Eclipse top-fill airbrush so gonna see how that goes.
