Tbh I don't mind skill emblem, but a lot of hacks just go overboard with it. Skills should be used to make units feel unique and distinct from other characters of the same class. Throwing them on random player characters and enemies just for the sake of doing it is just silly.

FE8 has the most polish and QoL, but it's also the easiest and shortest. FE7 has arguably a better story and three whole campaigns with two difficulties each. FE6 is known for being hard and it's also old and janky, but it's still the best one to play IMO for the challenge.
Watch out though, the FE6 Blades don't give extra wexp, so they serve simply as powerful swords with high wt
