I'm a streamer but Twitch is complete dogshit, fullstop. I went from making 2k a year on Twitch to 100k+ a year on Youtube.

One time I had a single viewer when I tried streaming healing mythic Antorus progression. When I realized someone was actually watching I freaked out and immediately closed everything. Caused a wipe on Sisters. Never again.

By playing videogames, mostly Fromsoft and horror stuff but I've successfully branched out to variety. Sponsors also play a decent part and can contribute some nice freebies occasionally.

Twitch takes 50/50 now. Which like I said before is completely abysmal dogshit. Youtube depends on what you're making money off of.

Anybody can become a successful streamer. The reason why so many people fail is because they try to become variety streamers. We all want to BE variety streamers because there are so many different games we want to play, but only the most charismatic of streamers can ever get away with that (and that's probably not you!)

If you want to be successful, you're going to have to stick to a small selection of games. Being a guy who speedruns, does challenge runs, or randomizers of that set of games. You'll get a dedicated following doing that no matter how boring you are.

The biggest key is having your cam on and interacting with the stream, even if nobody is watching. I know it sounds weird but you have to get into that headspace. Too many streamers I have seen literally never interact with their stream (even ones with a few people watching) because they just have it on in the background and aren't paying attention to it. So unless you're doing something like a speedrun or you're super good at the game, why would anyone tune in?

It's a lot easier to get discovered on YT than Twitch. I can make a video on a random game that sold 2 copies in the world and it will still get pushed to some people, and if enough engagement is generated it will then be pushed to others. On Twitch, not only are categories sorted by amount of viewers so streaming a lesser known game is mostly a fool's errand, but there's also the fact that it will push only double digits streams.

I multicast and then post the full vods to a secondary longform Youtube channel. The primary youtube channel has more shortform and edited content. The stream and 2 or 3 Youtube channels is a pretty standard setup now. Assuming you want that passive income of course.

Streaming as whole is stupid and daunting. It's extreme gamble whether you or don't succeed, and there is just too much of humiliation that you have to go through. It's even worse nowadays than it was 10+ years ago because everything is sanitized and censored to hell, viewbotting is prevalent, there are corporate cliques with preference of people, which means to some chosen people guidelines are nothing more than suggestions, and because the market is oversaturated you'll be be fighting for scraps like a rat. There are already thousands of people who get <10 views per stream. I don't know why would you waste time doing it, but whatever.
