The issue is how boring the Switch 2 is for a Nintendo console. Nintendo could have called this the Switch Pro and it would still make sense for it. Covid did have a positive impact on consoles sales across the board with Switch (as well as Animal Crossing, Ring Fit Adventure, and obviously Mario Kart) being huge beneficiaries, yes. However, even after things cooled back down the Switch's numbers never came to a grinding halt or even became a problem. Even now it's still selling well relative to how long its been out and it has never experienced a price drop.

I don't think Switch 2 is going to be as successful as the Switch 1 and I think it'll be a bit more than what the Wii got in total, but the Switch 1 was a success before and after covid. Covid just gave the whole industry a temporary boost.

It was a complete reimagining of traditional Zelda that clicked harder than anything and Nintendo also had the added benefit of nobody having a Wii U, so games like NSMBU and Mario Kart 8 could get ported right over and a large number of people would look at them as brand new experiences too.

There's nothing really "new" feeling about the Switch 2. It's more of a "been there, done that, but it's improved on from last time so OK" kind of feel. That doesn't spark excitement or drive people to want to learn more about it.
