I know this is a vague question, but how should one live?
What does it mean to do good and when is doing good worth the cost of harming or belittling someone else? I always instilled the thought that it is not my place to judge others and when something seems wrong I cannot know the other person's intentions for sure to call it out. I hate correcting people because I don't want to shit on anyone or be a dick, but I feel like such a cuck and it affects my job too. When customers ask me for something they can get themselves, I'll run over and grab it from behind the counter instead of just telling them where it is because I don't want to make them feel stupid for not seeing what was right in front of them.

It feels so hard to do good sometimes, and the revelation that the way I've been going about things is wrong and what I thought was selflessness actually seems to make things worse in most situations makes me legit depressed. It makes me wonder if there is even any true goodness in the world. I've never been religious, but I like the idea that such a thing exists, but it seems like every good action potentially harms someone else. High achievement makes others envious, so is it really "good" when it makes someone else worse off? Shouldn't "goodness" beget more goodness? Why do we not see this in reality when it should be self-evident? And if goodness is scarce, then how can it be good?
I'm thinking it might be time to take the Machiavellian pill. The world is going to shit anyway, so maybe I should just accept that at the end of the day, I can only look out for myself and the ones I love and just say "fuck everyone else"
