I could legit see Sony backing out of the video game industry because of this, or at least shifting their focus to mobile. Their video game branch gets the hemorrhage cash non stop while they have steady profits in other industries such as TVs and cameras, why bother with such a volatile market?

The thing is with consoles is that, no matter how good PC gaming gets, nobody can afford one practically. A base PS5 right now is $399. Compare that with at least a 1k+ computer and it still cant play GTA 6. The graphics card market right now is astronomical. Consoles will exist for quite a while. Oh yeah and the Switch 2 is anticipated to be the largest selling console release ever on top of the 1 guaranteed to outsell the DS.

All consoles are pointless & make the whole industry objectively worse - games literally need to be downgraded so they can run on those glorified bricks, and the exclusives are behind on everything.
Sony makes it a point to sell movies instead of prope games, because coding gameplay & UI takes actual skill, compared to a 17hour cutscene.

PC ftw - all that talent can do God's work in proper companies. Consoles are dead - they just don't know it yet.

But the first game was mediocre, so i have no faith in the second

unironically this is why cloud gaming should work.
the max a gaming PC is used per day would be 8 hours, but realistically 3 hours of use a day. probably 6 on weekends.
so about 140 hours a week that its left unused. so why not spread the cost of that amongst users and rent the processing out from a central server? instead of costing $2000, a pc set-up could cost $250 a year.
the only reason cloud gaming hasn't saved PC gaming yet is hardware manufacturer FUD, greedy publishers and shitty internet connections

I'd suggest they make some new and fun games. Doesn't seem like Sony has much capability for that, though, given the past few years.

Sony's 1st party focus on westernshit started on 7th gen, so it was as good as dead to me starting back then. So, them completely imploding during 9th gen with aborted and failed life services is wholy irrelevant, akin to giving a fuck about which species of maggot the dead horse is infected with.

I see where you're coming from but I think proton and hybrids are the final death blow to the closed console space too. We're already seeing the rise of handheld hybrid systems which is shifting the desire for cutting edges visuals to games that run well on mid range systems and when you have valve, Nintendo, Microsoft AND Sony competing in that space profit margins are going to be razor thin and thats not assuming that even more companies arent coming to take a slice too. I see exclusivity as a dead end once proton esque solutions begin to dominate, it's going to be about the system that plays the most and is the most affordable and I just don't think Sony can win that race.

Microsoft could have turned the entire generation around for themselves if they anounced at least 1 year exclusivity for future COD games

To be fair, they entered this gen so far ahead of their competition (Xbox) that they literally did fuck all and still, "won." Nintendo isn't really in direct competition with Sony and Xbox anymore since they've carved out their own market on the handheld side. As far as the current generations go I see it more as Sony vs. Xbox and Nintendo vs. Steam Deck/ROG/whatever other similar handheld system.

Yeah but a 1k+ pc from 6 years ago is dogshit today. They dont hold up well. I own a 1k myself from 2019/2020 and it cant even touch my PS5. The PS5 came out in 2020 and plays all triple A titles pretty damn good. And the PS5 can run every exclusive like DS2 and Gran Turismo 7.

If they were gonna shut down something it would be their TV division. They are overpriced and pretty much everyone offers better or same for much cheaper, so nobody buys them. All their other electronics are on the same boat but Hollywood invests pretty heavily on Sony because pretty much everyone there uses their cameras and other equipment. But again, only gaming sees clean profits. Funnily despite the insanely high revenue Nintendo's profits are still higher... Which makes you question how Sony are still even alive, right? But truth is most companies operate like this. Netflix is another one that is so deep in debt yet continues to function like nothing. Their stock keeps going higher and higher yet they are fucking broke.
