The majority of people that bought Elden Ring did not beat it, E33 can be beaten by absolute shitters with the easy mode. Plus E33 is a 30 hour game if you beeline the main quest instead of 80 like Elden Ring. More people saw the ending, more people are excited for the game because they got more into it and they're more willing to go glaze the game as a result. A hardcore gamer isn't going to go glaze Elden Ring on metacritic(especially when it falls apart at the end) but a normalfag might, especially if they're jerking off over the endings right after beating it.

With 16 they took a combat system that could support an 8 hour game and just applied it to a 50 hour one. Removing RPG mechanics was one of the dumbest things they ever pulled.

I really think a lack of party hurt FF16. Being able to switch between characters with different moves would have made it feel more like a RPG (even the latest Tales game had that). It made no sense because Clive had someone with him for like 90% of the game anyway

I don't get why FF die-hards are so hung up on the genre switch. Final Fantasy is a blank canvas, and every new entry is starts off with a clean slate. So fucking what if one game resulted as a hack n' slash game without an autistic battle system? You have 15 other entries, the insurmountable number of spin-offs, and not to mention the countless other JRPGs released every year.

The Eikon battles were pure magic and I couldn't imagine how terribly they'd have been squandered with a turn-based battle system.
