Consolebros: State of the Union

Give me your prediction of the release year of the Playstation 6™.
Will it be a traditional generation? (6-8 years)? Will Xbox be present with a home console? Tell me your thoughts abour what's coming.

AA1EuFjh.jpg - 1280x720, 109.19K

it'll be a thousand dollaridoos and will be used to play ps4 games in 12K 30fps

2028 $700, will rely heavily on pisser

xbox will have console that is essentially a minipc costing around $699 with a bunch of ai features I reckon

2028. Xbox MIA.

If they were smart the PS6 would be called The Playstation. It would be able to play all PS games from PS1 to current gen, right from the disks. Region Free of course. I would pay 1k for that.

What they most likely gonna be doing is,

2030 release

AI infused

Digital only

$1.2k

Xbox will most likely not be around.

30fps

You mean 30 fps with constant framedrops below the 20s.

Majority just buy them automatically to play their fifas and cods once in a while. Only a few nerds would be interested in playing retro games.

Xbox will become just a publisher if they dont do something that really makes them excel over PS. Free online, other store inclusion are the only things I can think of that would make me consider a Xbox

2027-2028. No idea about their handheld. If they release one I think it'll just flop because Switch 1 and 2 exists.

and what will next one be called? The Playstation 2?

2030 is too far away, also no way they're gonna ditch the number, it's the thing that makes you sell things (6? is more than my 5!)

Wasn’t there a rumour months ago that Xbox was attempting to enter a partnership with Steam and, with a new hybrid PC/Console system, allow users access to their Steam library on said device? Ostensibly bringing Steam to Console? If true that would be exciting, but I really doubt this.

traditional generation

Moore's law is dead, so will "traditional generations".
From 1970 to 2010, the game was "the wafer is 4000 dollars, and every 18 months give or take, we double the number of components in the wafer".
Now the rule is "every fuck you time, we add 50% more components and the price of the wafer doubles"
And there's no one you can blame for this, it's not the chinese, the jews, the lizardmen, the irish or anything, its just that we got to a point that the traditional mask shrinking no longer works because electrons just start to teleport around like goku.
It's the same phenomena used by your SSD to store data.

next gen xbox has basically been leaked. i'll get one as a side machine for my tv but pc will be my main. at least with steam and gamepass support there's some crossover.

653738724c.png - 1125x732, 112.92K

Playstation 360

Playstation After.

In normal cases, sure.
But with the way the world is right now, I have the feeling they would be pushing things back a few years. Tariffs and maybe WW3 will make sure of that.

There is nothing exciting about an xbox branded gaming pc.

PS6 will be in 2028 for $900+, next Xbox home console (Xbox Series X successor) will be Microsoft Store exclusive for $1000+ in 2027. This Xbox home console will not be Microsoft's flagship this time.

Playstation Remastered

it's not an xbox branded pc. it's a an xbox with pc-like features. albeit it'll still be locked down to MS store like how playstation is locked down to psn store.

It’s exciting for an Xbox player, who doesn’t have access to the games that are on Steam.

IMG_2079.jpg - 995x995, 244.72K

I still don't understand how Microsoft can support Steam. I mean, they love Gamepass but surely they still want to sell some games the old traditional way. With Steam on it that number will be 0.

ps5 has nogaems

LET'S RELEASE PS6 THAT WILL SAVE US

Because the next Xbox (Switch-like console, and traditional home console) are Windows-based, Win32.

There is nothing exciting about an xbox branded gaming pc.

Nice to meet you, fellow PS3 fan

save us

from what, remaining in first place?

we're first if we ignore that one competitor that outsells us 2 to 1!

lmao

phil spencer spoke about it in an interview a year or so ago. basically, the entire reason consoles are locked down in the way they are is because consoles have historically been loss leaders. sell the hardware at a loss to recoup that money by limiting consumers to your own store. however going forward, as we've seen with the ps5 pro, it's unsustainable to sell hardware nowadays at a loss because the price is already too high. and these artificial limitations will only push people away, while asking them to pay a lot. so if they open up their walled garden, while charging a lot, it makes for a more attractive product because even though you're paying more, you're getting more.

so expect next gen consoles to be $600 minimum. probably closer to $700 if the pc hardware market is anything to go by. a midrange pc is $1000 nowadays.

I don't care about home consoles anymore or pc gaming anymore. I have a 3080 ti rig I use only for sim racing and everything else I play on my switch.

The FTC case says 2027. We know it will use an X3D CPU and FSR4(PSSR). Rumors are saying the new Sony handheld will release around the same time(but be around PS5 levels of power, probably also with FSR4/PSSR).

It isn't. They can buy a pc right now. Literally no difference.

a midrange pc is $1000 nowadays.

a low end new pc is $1000 now, midrange is $1500, high mid end is $2000, high end is $3000(5080)-$4000(5090).

My only question to the tards wanting a ps portable is why? How retarded or limited is that going to be? Moreso with the ps5 and their UI being worthless without internet.

it won't use x3d. even the current ps5 cpu has less cache than its pc desktop equivalent. consoles use laptop tier chips because of their soc design.

Because they dream of a psp/vita 2 when we will probably get a portal 2.

PS handheld is more powerful than the Xbox Series S, less powerful than the PS5, will not have parity with the PS6, will use the same architecture as the PS6 (Zen 6 UDNA), will be a standalone handheld like the Steam Deck not a hybrid like the Switch, will play all PS5 natively but won't be optimized without a patch, may play PS4 games natively. Probably in the ballpark of $700.

SAAAR IT IS TO BE A SUPA COMPUTA

It's just a way to play their games on the go or in their bed/on the couch next to their gf or wife. The Switch 2 is already requiring you to have an internet connection for the Game Key Carts so by the time the next Sony handheld is out, consumers will be used to the idea. It's legitimately just a deck for Snoys and a way for the Japanese to potentially buy a Sony console again.

videocardz.com/newz/next-gen-amd-udna-architecture-to-revive-radeon-flagship-gpu-line-on-tsmc-n3e-node-claims-leaker

if only that made nintendo money lmao, look at quarterly earnings little guy. shouldnt you be in school today?

I only care about what the next gen means for physical media; the current state of things show more than ever before how much the industry wants an all-digital future.

and no, this isn't good for digitalfags who love this form for distribution either, the end goal is not something you can say it is fine like Steam or whatever, the end goal is the absolute control, something like what subscription steaming services allow for the providers; shit like Stadia is what every suit dreams of, Stadia only failed miserably because there's still some lingering push back even for people who like digital distribution, but perceptions change, what is 6 years from now on, 12 years from now on? Ever increasing prices on games and consoles themselves are the perfect trap to make susceptible people to convert to the idea.

will be a standalone handheld like the Steam Deck

the deck is a hybrid. are you retarded?

It's definitely going to get destroyed by the Xbox dockable handheld (Switch-like Xbox Series S successor) which will only end up being just $500 which will be on par with the Xbox Series S in power.

Fine like the PSP and Vita but without any software made for it, better?

leaker

give me a break. the ps5 pro was supposed to be rdna 4 and have x3d. we all saw how that went. hell, the ps5 was supposed to be rdna 2 AND it was claimed navi was exclusively made for playstation. all of these leaks are bullshit

3nm

That will be fucking expensive.

console will be VR-focused, and first party titles will be futa pov sims

$700 or even more for this handheld?

The japanese don't care about playstation though. I travel there quite a bit for work and nowadays its just jeets buying ps things there. The nips don't care about the card key because you still own the game and have to download it at home. As far as I can tell that whole thing is a western stink

As an Xbox player, I don’t want to pay lots of money for a PC just to play games. I want it all in one place. It’s not a hard concept to grasp. People are interested in the games, because they are smaller investments, but not interested enough to pay thousands for a new gayming machine.

IMG_1002.jpg - 1080x1080, 410.02K

Actually, lemme explain better the "new rules".
$700 today buys you a 4nm PS5 pro
In 2027, $700 will buy you a 3nm PS5 pro
In 2030, $700 will buy you a 2nm PS5 pro
But only if you're only using node shrinks.
If you do monkey tricks like chiplets etc you might escape this fate.
Like doing an 8nm PS5 pro for $500 by having a massive die that do the same job etc..

it does make nintendo money, unlike concord and the bungie acquisition looooool

Playstation Jupiter

The Japanese only care about handhelds now, the PS4 sold less than the PS3 despite having no competition for years. (The nips were playing mobage instead). The western aspect doesn't even factor in, it's just the Japanese preferring handhelds and mobile.
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_best-selling_game_consoles_by_region#Japan

smaller nodes are more expensive now. you don't save money by going smaller anymore. and an 8nm ps5 pro will also be much more expensive because the chip would be fuckhuge and yields would be complete dogshit.

look at quarterly earning comparisons and stock prices retard lmao

Just an extra reply because of how stupid the idea is. How will users access their older games? Will physical media work? Will i need a ps6 on the side to transmit license data? It just doesn't work. It'd have to be all digital and at that point there's no purpose to a console. Nintendo had to restart everything to get their carts ready and even then there was pushback.

SAAAR SUPA SONY IS GOOD UNLIKE PAKISTANI SHITCH

i'm still waiting for all AAA studios to deliver a stable 60fps with consistent frametimes

Yes, the node is more expensive, but when you're just doing the same number of transistors, the IC get smaller and you get more chips out of the same wafer, so i imagine the price will be stable.
(instead of going down as it used to be)

they could have a little usb disc drive attachment to install games with or something lmao. let the license stay for 2 weeks before you gotta attach the disc drive and do it again.

The only way to make that one happen would be to make games that run under it fail the certification test.

no the price will go up because the R&D to achieve the smaller node is expensive as fuck and that gets passed onto the customers.

The standard seems to be "every node shrink, the price doubles".
And IF the numbers were accurate, it would mean a stable dollar per transistor price.
But read in some places it's all bullshit as well, so the price might go up as you say.

They would never do a usb disc drive. Thats why they didn't give the original digital ps5 one. They had to make a new system to avoid people exploiting blu ray or something. Also how silly would that look? A long usb cable running to a large external disc drive. There is no way to make this work this unless they make the thing read discs which they won't since that's just ridiculous

If xbox becomes a gaming pc with steam all you'll get is an expensive xbox.

So, let's talk about pricing, will it look like this?

Xbox dockable handheld (Zen 5 RDNA 3.5+) $500

Xbox home console (only sold in Microsoft Store Zen 5 RDNA 4) $1000

PS handheld (3nm Zen 6 UDNA) $700

PS6 (Zen 6 UDNA) $900 or $1000

Ever increasing prices on games and consoles

while people are getting poorer

You need people to be able to buy your stuff first for them to be able to paypig for you, anon...

the new ps5 models already have a dumb little detachable disc drive. having a usb one for the portable is about the only way to go about it unless they wanna piss off physical owners. just make the license stay for 2 weeks after you install it so you don't have to keep plugging it in.

It being basically a MS branded prebuilt could interest me but the main issue is that they will most likely gate MP behind a sub.

you do realize microsoft co-designs zen with amd right? they even admitted it on stage. so there's no chance sony gets better zen tech than microsoft, who already buy a ton of zen for their azure and shit. also everyone will be using udna, it's not exclusive to sony. i don't know where you'd even get that idea from. if anything, judging by history MS usually gets the better gpu tech from amd. like series x is rdna 2 whereas ps5 is rdna 1 (doesn't natively support mesh shaders).

I don't know man I think its all screwed. The big "adult" consoles suck. The youth only like pc gaming and switch gaming. I don't mind but its sad that both xbox and playststion are only used by sports ball/ cod playing normies

Could the 2027 Xbox home console be UDNA despite that coming to the PS6 in 2028? The dockable handheld is definitely going to be RDNA 3.5+ though, they stated repeatedly that they want that to be affordable and the flagship sold everywhere like a traditional home console.

Have you seen how it works? Its not an external drive. They made the Disc drive io port easy to acess and you plug it in directly thus turning your digital console or pro into a proper system

They might honestly skip the next one. All the metrics point to it failing, not a smart move

all the handhelds will be the same base arch and so will the consoles. there's very little deviation in this regard, because both will opt for amd's most efficient and best price/perf offerings. and rdna 4 is basically a stopgap for udna. rdna 3.5 isn't even a thing. i'm not sure what you're suggesting here unless you think the handheld this year is the "xbox handheld". it's not it's just a rebranded rog ally with an xbox button. "xbox handheld" launches with the next gen console in 2027-28. also both xbox and playstation will release at the same time. nobody will give the other a head start.

Late 2028. Comes with another free Astro Bot demo highlighting the Dualsense 2’s new features.

yes but they could legitimately just do a usb drive for this if they want to cheap out. the way it's connected does not matter unless they want to have some god awful monstrous disc reader attached to the back of it . which considering the size of current handhelds...could be a thing i guess if all it does it check for licenses like some xbox games do and game key carts do. imagine if someone had to actually install the entire game off a disc and they walked around with the handheld in their pants and the disc kept skipping lmao.

So RDNA 4 for the Xbox handheld, UDNA for the Xbox home console or RDNA 4 for both?

also both xbox and playstation will release at the same time

This is no longer true for Microsoft going by leaks and rumors. They're no longer competing with Sony with rumors even stating different AMD architecture from Sony's PS5. Rumors also state that the next gen Xbox home console will not be sold in retail stores, only the dockable handheld will. Home console is Microsoft Store exclusive. Rumors are also coming out that it may cost more than even the PS6, in the 1000+ range. The Xbox home console is dead, anon.

Kids might move to consoles when they get older after their streamer career doesn't take off. Consoles being cheaper and requiring less effort appeals more to older people with families, which is why they're more popular with boomers/millennials. When you've got to save to put your kid through college the cheaper consoles become more appealing when you only play a few new games every year anyway and you don't play online because all your friends are raising kids too.

consolebros

sure sign of post being dishonest garbage tepid bait written by some PC faggot retard

UDNA comes out next year, so i don't know where you're getting your timeline from. also

rumours

rumours are bullshit 99% of the time. not even worth talking about. we can only speculate on known info.

Nintendo will dominate again because of exclusives and portability. Sony will release a $799 console that won't sell. Both MS and Sony will try to compete in the handheld market by nessecity, but by then it will be too late. Nintendo will be king for another gen.

no it's not just handheld, japan doesn't give a fuck about sony franchises

every single best selling IP in japan belong to nintendo with the exception of monster hunter, there's a reason why square enix are desperate to bring mainline final fantasy back to nintendo hardware

$800, no disc drive, online/digital only, bunch of live service game crap, graphics basically the same as now but with slighter better framerate and ray tracing. The PS6 is pretty much guaranteed to flop right out of the gate.

What part of Xbox home consoles are dead do you not understand? It's Windows, with an Xbox mask, that's what you're getting. While the home console is most likely UDNA, Microsoft is rumored to have opted for Zen 5 in the CPU department. It's releasing in 2027 as Microsoft never released a midgen refresh and they know this console will not sell. This is why they're making the dockable handheld, a third pillar to serve as a complete replacement to the home console in the coming years and they make sure that handheld is around $500 like how they made the Series S affordable in 2020.

No, they just like handhelds as shown by actual sales data, if Japan cared about Nintendo franchises then they would have bought the Wii U, N64, and Gamecube which sold less than the Vita. Dragon Quest is also still very big in Japan, do you even weeb?

if the console was dead they wouldn't make a new one. i remember a few showcases ago they said they're going to have the biggest technological leap they've ever head so they're obviously planning for something big and mass market. otherwise they could just move entirely to pc and be done with it. your logic makes no sense. it's pointless arguing unreliable information.

Nah I honestly think its over. Why else would both sony and xbox start going multiplat. I also laughed when I first saw the switch and it ended up being my favorite place to play games. Im sure many feel this way too. Pcgaming despite getting more expensive isn't slowing down either

Why else would both sony and xbox start going multiplat

PC ports are for the Chinese market primarily. The Chinese are primarily PC gamers and the Chinese government's requirements to get your game approved are ridiculously strict. They never approved BotW and they banned Animal Crossing New Horizons for being too subversive. All those "mature" games have 0 chance of releasing in China domestically so releasing on Steam is how they get around all that to still sell in the second largest market.

Still won't be in real 4k. Too expensive, no games, Last of Us Re-re-re-re-re-re-master

moves the discussion from people not caring about playsation to muh china

While it is true china is a giant market. You're ignoring sony slowly releasing games and properties outside of the playstation ecosystem

Tell me your thoughts

bait

How the fuck exactly?

Every console since the PS4/Xbox One era has been just a PC, anon. Google what x86 is. Only Nintendo hasn't jumped ship to it yet.

if the console was dead they wouldn't make a new one.

If it's using Win32, it's no longer a console, it's even throwing out the Xbox dev kits for one Windows dev kit, Console Game Pass is being discontinued for PC Game Pass, Xbox Microsoft Store is being discontinued for PC Microsoft Store, Xbox Cloud Gaming is switching from Xbox home consoles to Windows, BC for next gen will be software emulated because it's no longer in a console dev environment. Please explain to me how the hell is this realistically a console, anon, because that's just a PC playing dress up? And at this point, UDNA is still up in the air when it comes to the next Xbox. Also,
anandtech.com/show/21469/amd-details-ryzen-ai-300-series-for-mobile-strix-point-with-rdna-35-igpu-xdna-2-npu/3
I thought this wasn't real, anon.

PlayStation Quantum

I'd rather they let me install whatever OS I want on the Xbox.
They could beat out all these shitty mini-PCs if they allowed for that

If you really think about it, all PlayStations combined probably have less than 100 games worth playing today

you're just spouting hopium, no real facts. and rdna 3.5, sure it exists. who cares really. it's not tech that will be used in 2027.

has to go back 10 to 20 years to argue his point

concession and dilation accepted

Every new game will either cost 100 dollars or 70 dollars.

They are all waiting to see how the push for $80 new game goes for Switch 2.

For the handheld, yes, it'll be the special RDNA 3.5+ AI variant. The only one spouting "hopium" is the guy who still thinks Microsoft wants to keep a failing home console with shit profits alive. Even they know Xbox should have just been a part of Windows from the beginning and not some shitty offshoot home console. Xbox always felt like it never should have been a thing.

you've gone from speculating to console warring with hope and a prayer.

If it's a traditional gen they're fucked. Microsoft has already shown us what happens when you try to move into the next gen without having released shit in the previous one.

Their last non handheld was 13 years ago, anon...

It's really just Horizon and trying everything to make everyone care about that shit franchise is on brand, unless you're referring to Sony allowing Bandai Namco to use their dormant IPs to make games like Patapon. Other than that, the MLB demanded they put the games on Xbox so they could have more reach and make more money.

I'm seriously considering going 100% Nintendo once the Switch 2 arrives. I'm playing less video games every time, and it seems to be getting tons of multiplats anyway. Never thought it would get to this point, I have a mid laptop for everything else.

just look at sony stock prices bro

That's not how it works manchild

Not really. Expect more ports to the switch 2. They can't afford exclusives dude

There is no console warring you retard. Microsoft sees no value in the Xbox home console anymore thus Xbox is Everything but mostly Windows now.

I'm doing that and getting the Xbox dockable handheld in 2027. Fuck home consoles, I'm done with that shit forever.

I don't get it.

The PS5 is a 5 year old console now. It's shocking.
It's also the first time I got a console on release, a home console. I usually waited for piracy or for good games or some something for me to bite on and get it. I got the PS4 when the PS4 Pro released but I got the Slim because I didn't have a 4K TV didn't need it one. 4K is still very much a meme even if I have a LG C3 OLED now.
Anyways. They sold me on fact that it won't die on me because of the liquid metal theral paste and it had what at that time in 2020 seemed like really fucking good specs.

And then nothing. Back then I was still on a i7 6700k with a 1070 GTX, GPUs prices were insane it seemed like a steal.
Basically on the entire fucking PS5 lifespan I played

Demon's Souls Remake
Some old Vanillaware games and Unicorn Overlord
A bit of Genshin Impact because of the instant loading time.
FFXVI
Lost Judgement

Horizon looked like dogshit didn't get it
God of War Ragnarok also looked like dogshit

What the fuck am I supposed to play on it? It's a fucking dead console. I have no and I mean no fucking idea why is popular.

Just get a PC I have a 7900 XTX with a 7800X3D and there literally no games on the PS5 that are exclusive except Unicorn Overlord.

I have to say by far and I mean very far this is the worst and most disappointing console I ever bought.
I felt like this about the PS3 for maybe a year then suddenly i got an avalanche of good games.

At this point Switch 2 will come out and it will have more games then the worth playing at launch then PS5 in it's entire 5 year run.

Why does Horizon get so much marketing I don't know a single soul in real life that preferred it to say Zelda BOTW. And these days you have literally free mobage with better gameplay.
It's incredibly baffling why Sony American continues to push this honestly medicore franchise.

I don't see what one thing has to do with the other. PS5 has sales, the PS6 will also sell and you will be seething still.

Shit moved to online slop.
You don't play online slop so you don't see games being released.

People who care about old games emulate them on PC, consoles are for normies who are only interested in the currently discussed thing.

It's a pretty shit console, yeah. I most recently played R-Type Final 3 on mine a month ago since it's one of the few genuine PS5 exclusives.

What online slop is there on the PS5 that I can only play on it and not on PC?

I'm seeing all kinds of games released but why would I play them say on the PS5 when I can connect my PC to my OLED TV and do the same shit in 120Hz 4K?

Not that I'd ever play competitive games on a console to begin with except fighters.

If they are smart, which they aren't, they completely pivot to 100% console exclusives again now that xbox has gone multiplat

they need to compete with pc because without competition sony is a horrid company

Without an innovation in television tech, memory/storage or streaming tech and a wide adoption of 8k content PS6 could probably be around for a long time. PlayStation's are built to sell TVs, and with Sony no longer making 8k TVs I don't expect much from the PS6 but being a smaller, more efficient, slightly better PS5 Pro.

So I see generations going forward being attached to the handheld space and
with the race being to get the full PlayStation experience on a handheld for under $500.

Xbox of course is done, their Xbox branded Rog and Steam Machines aren't going to make a dent in the market, they're just designed to continue to depress the industry and turn the adopters from a market of buyers into a market of renters like in the 3rd and 4th gen.

It's not because its exclusive, its "easier" on consoles.
It is not popular for good reasons.

PC gamers don't buy games anymore, they've bought in fully to gamepass.

I have finished constructing my backlog fortress and now I am surviving upon it.

Sony

Tvs

Anon they gave up in the 4k space as well. J-oled died and they're going back to buying panels from hisense
