how does free roam even work

like they drop you in the middle of an area at random or do you always start at the same part of the map

it looks like when the game starts up it puts you on a random road in the world and then you can go into free roam directly from the menu

There’s no community/tournament like in 7/8, but one thing of note is that in one of the latest updates to MK8DX they gave friend lobbies room codes that could be used to join a room instead of having to be friends with the user. It’s likely that would be carried over to MKW and that could be used instead
