he's actually unpretentious.
like he just puts out his raw thoughts and feelings in games with little restraints, and what you get is a mix of what feels like pure retardation at times and shocking genius at others. Half the time he just puts things in games that he thought was cool because he saw it in a movie, except it's coming from the perspective of an old Japanese westaboo. At the very least, it's novel and there's soul.
pretentiousness is when you have some devs huffing their own farts thinking they know what high art is, and making games that don't from from raw creative vision but from what their idea of what the world thinks good art is. all their experiences and creative output feels derivative and feels like it comes from a life that was lived secondhand.

He definitely directs all the actors scenes. He’s probably and extreme nit picker and micromanager. Like, you see kojima coming toward your work station and your butt hole tightens and you glup, because he’s going to find things that aren’t right looking over your shoulder.
