It's been a few years since I've been really really involved in the scene, so another Anon is free to correct me if I'm dealing with outdated info. The trend I noticed was that the game increased massively in casual playerbase, which is good and bad depending on what you want out of the game. A huge increase in this popular can be attributed to limited run sealed product that was distributed at big box retailers, wizards own website, or both. Local Game Stores (LGS) get less and less exclusive product, tournament support, among other things to encourage more in-store play. If you want to go to a game store and enjoy some constructed play or draft, then you are being alienated hard by WotC. If you just want to buy product and play kitchen table magic, especially Commander, then the game is in a very good state. Competitive play is largely online now unless you're a top 1% player. Gone are the days of having good sanctioned events at your LGS, and WotC doesn't mind that at all.

The issue with commander is that everyone's opinion of whats competitive/fair is highly subjective and its incredibly hard to objectively categorise decks. On top of that the game is 32 years old and individual player skill, card awareness and understanding of complex rule interactions makes a huge difference. The important thing is not to take it too seriously unless you're in the company of other known autists.

Windurst counts, but it's a freebie like Ronfaure forest or Bastok Cid. Dragoon's Wyvern might count, but if XIV does not already have a wyvern minion, it will soon. Fenrir got a color change, but it otherwise in the game as a dungeon boss.
Can we get a card that says "this is NOT from FFXIV"? I seriously doubt it. They could put in a Crawler or Crab or the 2-3 mission Shadow Dragon, since those are iconic enemies, but their exact copies exist in FFXIV already. Prishe is probably the only legend we'll get and it just so happens Prishe, Shantotto, and Iroha are the three characters physically put into XIV already.

There's something about the lines and shading that looks too artificial and is missing a subtle sense of texture.
