People will pretend every game they like has much more complex gameplay than this but they're usually full of shit.
Having some hollow RPG mechanics with +5% damage and all that shit does not actually make your game any better.
The game is cinematic and the gunplay fits that extremely well. I'm constantly doing brutal shit like tackling and slicing a guys throat or shooting someone's legs off or kicking them in the head until they die. It's kino.

Actually yes which is why the true height of this experience is to play a good RP multiplayer server that is properly moderated and protected against hackers AND has mods like horse training which allows you to herd a real herd of horses and stuff. Unfortunately the server I used to play on is dead now and I'm not sure any will ever compare, it had some real amazing custom scripts. I'll drop a few webms.

i mean yeah if you don't find just roaming, hunting and fishing relaxing you will probably find it tedious. play read dead online, it's a more focused grind, even if its on life support. im actuallly a fan of westerns and my fundamental problem is with the setting not being in the arid southwest, it's a bit too "little house on the prairie" for me. i understand they wanted to showcase different biomes, but swamps in a western is just weird, man. yes, i know the real life frontier was not just deserts.

I think that's just a tradeoff they made for realistic earth that can be imprinted, like the snow, and if they kept the mud and dirt and snow lower resolution to be morphable it would look jarring next to high resolution ground textures. In any case this was almost 8 years ago now, the standards anons are holding this game to for graphics aren't reasonable.

Unplayable thanks to completely unchecked hacking it's insane. They literally crash people's computers by nuking your GPU dropping trillions of polygons of assets on you.
However there is a way to force a private session with just yourself and that's pretty comfy. But it's not true multiplayer, just allows you to enjoy some new content.

i don't play with a posse. the free roam is identical to story mode, with the added bonus of faster animations. and then you have the roles, that can be enjoyed completely solo. also i like playing as my own toon, instead of the hick arthur morgan.

Maybe something to do in the open world game, hunting is fine, but aside from that the open world element its very lacking, I finished the story, the side missions and there was almost nothing to do.

Another case for custom servers. Not only are they populated with hundreds of players at all times so it's like you're in a living breathing world, but there's like dozens of careers and side quests and things to become an expert in. I used to love mining for gold at the river in between doing trapping missions and stuff. Maybe bump into someone on the road and talk to them about where to find epic beavers. Socializing is optional.
