fly to sweden and ask notch in person

That's cheating

No it's not. It's not 1990 anymore, the internet is a legitimate resource to utilize.

You weren't.
Mojang attempted to rectify this by adding ruined portals many years later, a practically worthless effort since everyone already knew what the fuck a Nether portal is from basic osmosis and the structure doesn't really tell you shit.

were you?

everyone who played at the time watched youtubers. that's how I found out when this update came out. notch may have also posted a video on it leading up to it.

How was I meant to know to take my pants off before I shit myself, why didn't my pants come with instructions

You learned by talking to other people, games didn't become hyper closed off communities yet
Which is why Mojang only recently bothered to fix this issue

play game

game updates

ah, the game has had a major update, perhaps i should look up what they added

does no one else do this?

No faggot you're supposed to intuit every single aspect of every single game ever. Just how we did it back in the fucking caves, thats right caves nigger. There were no manual pussy, the best you got was some fucking scratches on the wall. Kill yourself for ever looking up anything. You are supposed to intuit obvious mechanics like the nether cunt.

You do realize games used to come with instruction manuals, right? Reading the manual used to be essential to CRPGs. Shit, in the late 90's/00's they used to design quests to get you stuck intentionally to get you to buy the guide book.

That's cheating

Wrong, video games test your skills and research is a skill.

How far we have fallen, blatantly obvious sarcasm gets taken literally. Nigga did you think I actually lived in a cave.

You don't?

For years, Minecraft didn't even tell you how to craft anything. You were supposed to play it with the wiki open.

I do. It's warm, surprisingly wet, kinda smells like fish. Happens to be located at your mothers home.

Not in a video game it's not retard. You can't have obfuscated mechanics required for finishing the game. 4j studios understood that.

Word of mouth. You'd know if you had friends.

Dishonest game design

shared knowledge from other players on a server

That was you I felt in there last night? Shit, sorry man

DURR! HOW ME SAPOST 2 KNO DAT SHOOS GO ON FEETS! DURR! DURR DURR DURR!

Minecraft didn't even have a recipe book, so crafting a pickaxe also required to look it up.

I was on the minecraft forums every single day

What is this image meant to convey? That it's bad to not light your portal?

Will you be my friend ?

he forgot to read the manual

looking it up online is cheating
asking your friend how to do it is not
in fact its the intended gameplay loop
experiment and figure something out then share it with your friends

You can literally find abandonned portals in the mines you fucking troglodyte

he doesn't know how to summon Herobrine

lmao get bent faggot

you find a partially complete one somewhere in the wilds then finish it

You look at broken portals all over the map retard

Same way you knew to check under the truck to get mew

you were supposed to learn about it naturally while watching shadow of israpheal

This is the true answer, they also made achievements for it too iirc

I NEED EVERYTHING SPELLED OUT FOR ME OR IT'S SHIT!!!

Literal game journalists are posting here.

early minecraft had caves

I think they are just ragebaiting.
I refuse to believe people can be so tasteless and stupid.

They're both the same, why does one of them not work?

projecting

Kill yourself faggot. Just because you're a fucking loser doesn't mean others are.

thinking RPGs are good game design

mojang gave journos the halloween preview update and they told readers exactly how to enter the nether, or 'the slip' as it was then referred to
prior to this notch repeatedly posted on his tumblr that you will enter it via a portal and many speculated obsidian's involvement in portal creation as it had no current uses

The point that he's trying to make isn't that it was impossible to find out, but that locking off that much of a game behind mechanics that are impossible to intuit without outside resources is really fucking retarded.

retard

obviously it isn't retarded as it's a great game and popular with many many people

word of mouth.
a friend was meant to show it to you, upon which you'd feel a sense of wonder at there being an entire other world you didn't know about.

you watched your favorite youtubers, you checked on twitter, you looked at the dev logs/patch notes and you experimented in creative mode.

nowadays they have ruined portals with just a couple blocks missing. this is bullshit because nowadays anyone who owns a game console knows precisely what a nether portal is and probably how to make one

everyone with a brain was using wikipedia to see schematics, and there was always countless of youtube videos explaining everything
i played minecraft since early alpha version and used to watch videos of other people showing how to create items and stuff

it's just this kind of game, and let's not pretend like minecraft is the only one. OP wouldn't survive a day of 90's gaming crying that it's impossible to play the game because it doesn't explain anything

copying the designs on the desert temple

Honestly genius, I never would've thought of that

how the FUCK were you supposed to know??

Guides existed for a really long time. There's nothing wrong in using one.

I'm not disagreeing with your overall sentiment.
But in 1990 we were expected to collaborate more with each other. A lot of games were made unfair to sell guides and some games had a lot of obtuse puzzles like the Siren games that were deliberately made so you would go online and share information with each other.
It's more of a modern problem where we don't want to use guides because games got easier and there's too much information. Modern game design complains about unfairness to the player but they're also the ones that get people talking because they need to work together.
I miss those games. I don't get to do that too often unless it's the first few days a game was released.

calm down faggot, little timmy watching a minecraft video at 10 years old 15 years ago doesn't make him a loser nor does it warrant you getting this assblasted
