Two is that these companies are trying to use it as a shortcut which means they're going to be inherently awful and lazy and stylistically inconsistent at utilizing the AI tools and their products are going to be immeasurably worse than before. Every company that has tried to use AI even for little stuff like a promo shot has been caught out and mocked for it immediately. Another problem is that once you get used to any particular AI style you quickly become very desensitized it, and if you detect any of those styles in more than one product (which you will because of the limited number of AI tools available and reason #2) you're going to immediately think it's shit garbage.

the problem is that they're not run on an engine and thus have no physics. they're just visual mimicry, so they get tactile gameplay design all wrong. this is especially apparent in the shooters, where the AI doesn't have the capability to understand that bullets are fired from the weapon and impact the enemies and that all of these things should react in accordance with the engine. the lack of real animations also causes errors like only motioning towards the magazine to reload, or pulling the magazine out and putting the same one right back in.

i'm not smart enough to even conceptualize how an LLM would learn to solve these problems, so I'm not going to say it can't be done (I would assume it would require many different kinds of AI tools working in tandem), but there are many very obvious fatal flaws in a visual generative AI's ability to create real, interactable, dynamic video games without foundational engines, frameworks and rulesets, etc.

The bare minimum for actual, non trash generative AI is a GPU with 12GB of VRAM, a good CPU and 32GB of RAM, that's around 1000 bucks, for the records, according to Steam's user statistics the most widespread and popular GPU right now is the RTX4060m, which is a laptop GPU with only 8GB of VRAM.

And again, that's the bare minimum, ideally you'll want to have a GPU with 16GB minimum because even at 12 it starts to choke the moment you use refiners, which are essential for high quality generation.
So when all of this is said and done, you're actually looking at a 1800-2000 bucks machine minimum if you actually want to get into non shit generative AI, a bit less if you use AMD cards (but AMD cards are worse than Nvidia's at generative AI) and that's just the cost of the hardware itself, the bills you're paying for that is another matter entirely.

Oh I don't think you're completely wrong there. Like yeah, if they can get away with doing that they will. But hopefully the shear amount of competition will kill that sort of practice. Like if you give a single basement dweller the tools to do what it took a whole studio to do ten years ago, and he sells it for like 10 bucks to be competitive the that means other companies might have to follow suit just to get sales.

But I do see two problems with this, the first is a question of how easyily available theses tools will be. If for example EA makes a suit of some video game making model and refuses to make it public to some extent, and competitors don't emerge that could let them get away with keep prices up. The second problem is the legal one. Companies are becoming increasingly more likely to "patient troll" designes, and I could see a future where a single dev could create a large game on their own, only to be blocked out of the market due to a huge attack of lawsuits that they won't be able to affored to fight back on.

The only example I can think of is brew barrons, where it was noticeably AI sometimes in the way they said things, but I'd much prefer it to reading/the dev voicing 12 different characters.
