What made the difference for me was to ignore Rude Buster and just use TP for Heal Prayer, despite that being the exact opposite of the recommended strategy. While the fight lasted more turns, I was able to stretch my items out longer as well.
Also, big thanks to the anon who suggested cheesing the ring-a-round attack by staying in the corner. Took way less damage than trying to dodge in a circle.
Now my Chapter 2 save has everything and I'm ready for the new stuff.

The whole chapter takes place during night, though. "Tomorrow" will be chapter 4.

Chapter 4 is the church chapter. It starts the following morning/afternoon after Chapter 3's nighttime adventures, where Kris and Susie hang out around Hometown, and then find out there's a Dark World inside the church, which is really fucking bad because either church will already be in progress, or several people will still be inside the church after service, like Alvin (and most notably and likely, Rudy.)

My personal strategy was to use Kris and Susie for attacks while Rals was defending at every opportunity. Thus I always had some TP stocked up if I needed any. Another idea of dubious quality was just not to revive downed teammates if the alive ones were healthy - they will eventually revive by themselves while you keep whittling at boss' HP instead of wasting turns and items.

I wonder if this scene happens before or after Dark World in chapter 4. If it's before, it means Asgore in chapter 3 is pretty much confirmed. If it's after, it means that nothing really tragic happened in the church.

Do you think Spamton's design was iconic by itself? Like if you were shown just his sprite before the release, would you assume he's interesting enough to be a schizoboss? It's the whole package deal that made him so popular - his speech pattern, his lore, his shop segment, his actual fight. So it's just too early to judge.

It's hard to say honestly, Toby could've jumbled the order of the teasers, so picrel could actually be really early into Chapter 4 while everything else is Post-Dark World. What's really going to define how the church goes down is when it starts raining.
If the rain's before the Dark World, then yeah, things will probably stay peachy, against all odds. But if it doesn't rain prior to Kris and Susie leaping into the next Dark World, that's when it's time to start worrying about shit getting serious.

Ralsei is mysteriously able to travel between fountains with no issue, Ralsei tries to get Susie to ignore Kris having a mental breakdown after the Spamton fight, and Ralsei seems to know the player is there too. Kris also hates Ralsei tea, and Ralsei is for some reason a carbon copy of his brother.
It would make sense to me that Kris got lonely after Asriel left, and after researching the occult, made a darkner tulpa clone of his brother to have someone to talk to, and that started all of this.

Best piece of evidence for Kris Knight are the TV and handwashing lines implying that the end of chapter 2 was premeditated. It is strong evidence, but not conclusive now that we know any lightner can make a dark fountain.
Strongest piece of evidence against Kris Knight is that none of the people who have seen or met the Knight so far even hint at him being anything like the Knight, but there's also a bunch of other weaker points that also needs to be explained away.
And most of it can be explained away in theory, but at a certain point there's just too many contrivances for it to be good writing.

All we can do for The Knight in general is theorize, but the most important details we need to recognize are that King devotes himself to The Knight, something that wouldn't happen if they were a Lightner, and that Queen can't make heads or tails of what The Knight is even supposed to be, and just calls them an "it" as a result.
This leads me to wonder if Kris Knight is correct, but people are looking at it the wrong way.
Namely the idea that Kris, who is meant to represent Frisk and Chara simultaneously, has been split into two: The body we control, and the original SOUL that was removed, which makes room for the SOUL we command, else we wouldn't be able to hijack his life as easily as we can.
That is to say, alongside our vessel, Kris' real SOUL was discarded, and now his SOUL is in opposition of us, using what we were supposed to inhabit to carry out whatever plans he has. Find Dess? Sever our connection to the game so he can reset and get back his life? His tumble into the dark yet darker meant he saw the game's script and is now acting it out with the intention of reaching the credits sooner so you'll fuck off, and then he can live his life again? Who the fuck knows.
You can even argue the premeditation goes as far back as the end of Chapter 1 where Kris rips you out of his body just so he can go eat pie, ensuring that Toriel and Susie have to spend extra time baking a new one tomorrow.

The difference is, the GAME ITSELF is being forced to acknowledge that nothing about it matters, that nothing about it has any objective value to the unfathomable world that exists a layer above it.

It's an easy enough detail to miss but I never stopped thinking about it, when Kris throws you into the cage you are still in control of yourself. In the small area you occupy you have total freedom to move how you want however much you want, whereas kris is unable to do anything but pull out his knife and go for the pie. Jevil enjoyed and embraced his fate whereas Spamton fought against it, showing how painful a life without true freedom and knowing you lack it can be. When you beat Jevil he's indifferent and joins right away, when Spamton's strings are cut he's just out cold, only being able to do anything once he's haphazardly strung back up to the ceiling with what strings remained. "Don't forget, I'm with you in the dark" - Whoever is saying that has helped/met people in the dark. This narrows things down to Inkling, Ridley, Simon, Richter, Hero, Steve, Sephiroth and Sora. Who exactly is "with us" remains to be seen.

Some people think that locker scene and King's betrayal are two defining moments of Deltarune (never mind anything that happens inbetween), and were absolutely furious because chapter 2 didn't had that "dark" and "melancholic" tone of chapter 1.

Queen is a fun character, but I suppose you can call her role as a villain as somewhat weak, even if she definitely has more of a presence in the story than King. I imagine Toby is going to gradually rack up the villains in severity or he's making a point with the way he's handling antagonists.

Ignore the fact that the unused text string from Susie desperately pleading for Kris to wake up as an alternate dialogue during CONTACT is still in the game, when he could have removed it in the Chapter 1&2 build. The text string that supports the idea that Kris has been living in a timeloop trying to figure out what needs to be done to prevent the one and only ending, the end of the world. It doesn't mean anything. Toby just overlooked it, is all.

I think people have taken the "puppet on strings" metaphor too literally, Kris has agency just like Spamton does, they're not robots operating on their master's programming. They can try to change their situation, Spamton even interprets Kris's actions in Snowgrave as them trying to do just that, but they're still a "puppet" because they're a lesser being at the mercy of higher powers (the player and the creator of the game). Spamton and Seam both speak not just to Kris, but to all of the "Three Heroes," about the hopelessness of their situation and the slim possibility that they might be able to change their FATE.
Snowgrave makes it clear that if we want to we CAN assume total control over Kris and force them to do whatever we want, but it also indicates that this is not the normal state of things. In absence of a reason to believe otherwise, like feedback from Kris or being told that we're directly intervening as in Snowgrave, I think it should be assumed that we're only guiding Kris's choices rather than commanding them to do as we please. Kris was obviously uncomfortable dealing with Spamton, but it's not hard to imagine that they felt it was a risk they had to take for their own reasons.

I really like the idea that the biggest reason why Kris seems so close to Susie and unafraid of her despite supposedly only really knowing her for just over a day is because they're a looper and saw the best parts of her. I could imagine Kris just being desperate in the beginning and eventually deciding to enlist Susie iuy of desperation because they found the rest too unreliable or otherwise not up to the task and being pleasantly surprised.

Kris would not partake in Snowgrave because we know for a fact that Kris is fundamentally a good person. They are LV 1, they love their family, they don't want to steal from Asriel, they're upset when you play a dangerous "prank" on Noelle with the electric gate. Kris doesn't want to hurt people. They are willing to take extreme actions in the ending, slashing Toriel's tires and risking endangering everyone by opening a Dark Fountain, but that is very far from calculated murder.
It is repeatedly indicated that we are the mastermind of Snowgrave, not Kris. The choices to back out of Snowgrave are consistently personal and expressive ("Let's solve it together!", "Sorry, I'll do the puzzle", "I'm protecting her from you!") in contrast with the robotic command to "Proceed." Noelle repeatedly comments that Kris isn't acting like themself, culminating in the scene at the hospital where Noelle states that during Snowgrave Kris has been speaking in an unfamiliar voice "unlike Kris's." The implication that we are directly possessing Kris is clear.
We can see this in both of the major fights in Snowgrave. Berdly will exclusively target Kris during his fight, making it more likely that Kris will be knocked out. You can still command Noelle to cast Snowgrave, and she will respond and the scene will play out in the same way. It would be absurd to blame Kris for something that can happen while they're unconscious. But this isn't an oversight, it's something the game has planned for: Noelle will acknowledge that she can still hear that same unfamiliar voice commanding her, because it's coming from the SOUL, not Kris's mouth.
We see this distinction made again against Spamton NEO. Kris calls for help, but nobody came. Their friends are so far away they don't even notice the battle is happening, nevermind being able to hear Kris. But when "You whisper Noelle's name," she answers the call. Kris's words couldn't have reached her, but YOUR command can.
