Why did mecha genre died?
Why did mecha genre died?
DESTROY
NINE-BALL
Zoomers overwhelmingly don't like big robots, don't like building models, and don't like sci-fi.
The execution is always lack luster. The concept is fucking cool but it's difficult to translate into a fun smooth game. Armoredcore 4a is the closest the genres ever come to a smooth fun experience titanfall 2 aswell. Mechwarrior is very over rated imo and turns a lot of people away from the genre.
But some other anon gave a spiel about when buying a mech game they are bad everyone knows they're bad so even though there may be a few gems you're better off buying soulslike number 9thousand because it's safer and you know what to expect.
I agree with his take.
Super Robot style mech games never took off in the West. And not a lot of people seem to be interested in the mission style structure of a mech game or in learning to pilot a mech (sadly).
Aside from Arcades and AC6, the genre as a whole has never been able to compete progression-wise (talking about progressing through a game, not progression systems), with something like Dark Souls, Halo, Skyrim, Witcher 3, etc.
But the genre should be seeing a burst in popularity given that we seem to be careening towards another mecha cultural moment with the devs influenced by AC6 and Mechs coming up in other media cycles (the live-action Gundam adaptation being an example).
super robots aren't sci-fi
AC1>AC6 imo
floppenfall is not a mech game
There were hardly any movies or tv-shows about super battle robots.
floppenfall is not a mech game
It's still close enough. It's as good as the genre gets which is a real shame.
why ac1? Is not even the best ac on psx but i can understand it
old ac have a different atmosphere and feel more mechanical and less souls
it's the only other ac game I played besides ac6
Where the fuck is AC7?
AC1>AC6 imo
Holy contrariant batman.
Usually the people going ">new bad old GOOD" have very good point, if not completly right.
But AC6 is literally one of the best games ever made, this is bullshit. I actually think AC1 is still great and hold up well for a PS1 game but there's no way you actually believe this.
AC6 or Master of Arena?
Havent played AC6. Player MoA like 20+ years ago
why does it feel like every armor piece in the shop is worse than the ones you start with?
Super robots are sci-fi, they are advanced mechanical constructs powered by renewable or alien power sources.
Paciffic Rim could have been Robotjox 2 but they had to go and make it about alien monsters and fuck it up.
AC6 is literally one of the best games ever made
it's not even in the top 3 AC games
Well from soft is just know as the people that make the hardest heckin hardest roll slop ever so that’s what happened to armored core
lol ac 6 is just another shitsouls clone
Ya’ll niggas don’t even know about S.L.A.I.
Model kits sell more than games
Gundam Wing and Escaflowne girled up the genre right at the turn of a new console generation and turned away the main consumers of video games at the most critical moment.
Not capitalizing enough from gundam Wing and Seed in the west. Gundam would have carried mecha in the west had they gotten proper games of the relevant series of the time like Wing and Seed thus creating another avenue for popularizing mecha. We got mostly UC games which at the time was just for their old jap fanbase and only few westerners cared for. At one point Gundam Wing was the most popular show on all of cartoon network, of course the japs didn't care and the most we ever got was some shitty 2d fighter.
4Answer > Silent Line > Last Raven > 6 > 3 > MOA > 2 > 1 > PP > 2AA > Nexus > 4 > VD > V
Because Mecha was never popular even back then compared to shit like Fantasy and majority of Mech games were either mediocre at best and at worse absolute bargain bin shit with like a few exceptions. AC being the only Mech game Series alive that has garnered a above average reception from the masses is all you need to know about the current situation, because who's else is gonna do it?
Sorry but I genuinely believe ac1 is better
ac1 gameplay> ac6 gameplay
ac6 story> ac1 story
ac1 weapons> ac6 weapons
ac1 parts> ac6 parts
girled up the genre
its funny since mecha propagated idols
Anyone that lists a Miyazaki AC as anything but utter trash is trolling.
The Genre had its chance with Chance with Titanfall and EA blew it and AC is the only thing in the AAA landscape worth a shit now. And it's basically Indies carrying the torch until From Makes an AC 6 Expansion or 7,
Except it was zoomer. At its peak Gundam Wing had higher ratings than DBZ.
PP over anything
I will never understand retards that jerk off Stingers game
Because of that traitor, v.IV
and those dolts at command
and worst of all, (You)
Mechas looked too much like toys back then so what momentum they had back in the 90s died off in the West when the 2000's edge era came by , it's why the Michael Bay transformers movies had some decepticons and autobots look the way that they did in that movie , the audience is there but robots aren't as desired by the greater public anymore
AC2/AA had the best soundtrack. GOD I wish AC6's soundtrack had been more like AC2, holy shit, in a perfect fucking world
I hate Minmei so much. I also hate idolshit in general and I'm glad they almost always lose to best girls
Because only Japan cares about it the most, and the West never gave a shit. It's that simple really
Because robots are fucking boring there I said it.
threadly reminder that shazam lost
Play VersionThree - INVISIBLE RAID aka AC1 clone
Because when the best shit you got is like a handful of games over multiple generations of systems you know why the Genre is dead
the West never gave a shit
Kids in the US used to love mecha in the 80s and 90s, it was huge
mega man never stood a chance..
Poor sales, mostly because journos during the 5th and 6th gen started calling japanese games "icky" and "too gamey" and "too arcadey". They complained they were focusing on gameplay and not on story, and so the market shifted away from them and the studios making them (almost) all went bankrupt.
Brown people. AC6…good? LOL. LMAO EVEN.
*t - watched it happen first hand in the 90s, horrified at what gaming was turning into. :(
Key word "Used To"
There's nothing wrong with 6 it's just the fact it's the newest one in the series and while it has some flaws it's definitely not bad in any way of the word
