I have no idea what I'm doing, but i'm so hooked and having a lot of fun anyway. Should I be worried about bricking character builds? Should I re-read tooltips? I hear this is the easiest Owlcat RPG by a mile so I'm not sure what to do
I have no idea what I'm doing, but i'm so hooked and having a lot of fun anyway...
You can rebuild characters (first few times are free) if you talk to that one guy at the bridge. So even if you did somehow brick yourself you can fix it so just go nuts. Pick things that match the big numbers your character has and make those numbers bigger
The terminolgy is so confusing which doesn't hrlp, like the ;'Wound' meaning HP and not damage, but sometimes damage. Like come on
The enemy has wounds, you have wounds. Your damage equates to 4 wounds. It's relatively simple.
Anyway, it's difficult to totally brick a character
I dont understand why they adapted so much of a mediocre tabletop rule set
The ffg d100 system is pretty sweet though.
Can I make Argenta choose me over the Sisters/Emperor?
I don't get why she doesn't murder me for being a Heretic? plot hole?
I bought this on the recent sale. So it's worth it? I'm expecting bg3 in space minus all the voice acting and gayness. More reading, similar combat, but not sure what will hook me. I played Warhammer online the fantasy MMO a million years ago.
They didn’t adapt enough is the problem
Warhammer Age of Reckoning was great. As for BG3 in space, not really, unless you are referring to the isometric aspect of the game. It’s also more difficult than BG3 imo, but fun. Team synergy in terms of abilities is good.
it's 10000 times more easier to get into than WOTR right
this game is the best 40K game
Oh yes, most definitely.
Oh, this game's brain dead compared to pathfinder. You'll be fine
I feel so bad about WOTR, it looks and sounds amazing, but it's so complicated, how do I get to a spot where I can play it without help/guides? I really wanna' try it, please say I don't need to play tabletop pathfinder
braindead but dialogue/text wise they definitely went all out. I can't speak for how accurate it is to 40K lore but it's definitely still a solid CRPG imo
It's really not that bad. There's just so many options it's easy to get overwhelmed and unfocused. The reality is a ton of fucking feats are just a waste or useless. If you're a caster, you'll want spell penetration and feats that increase the DC of the school you specialize in. If you're a fighter, you have so many feats it's almost impossible to fuck it up. You could waste half of them on useless shit and still make it with the other half, which is what every class other than fighter does as melee. Just focus on things that actually sound useful.
it has to do with her relationship with theodora, or more specifically her bodyguard
I'm no 40k nerd but are the Sisters less likely to waste people on sight for heresy? She definitely feels infinitely more approachable than an average Spess Mehreen
Because the heretical path is a poorly implemented meme, you don't even try to hide that you're a chaostard and no one does anything about it, not even the characters that should realistically shoot you on sight, like Argenta
Can anyone help me?
I have been playing this game for like 100 hours and I still don't know how to swap party members ON THE BRIDGE. I can only do it when I shuttle down to an explorable planet or hub or whatever.
This isn't like the worst thing in the world but I want to go over builds on the ship and it's hard to do respecs if you don't have the party member you want to mess with on hand.
That's disappointing, guess they wrote themselves into a corner, atl east she's fun to use/talk to
Sisters are less tolerant of heresy than Space Marines. Think about it there are no Chaos Sisters but there are chaos space marines. Then again nothing in the lore matters because every single 40k author has his own interpretation of it regarding what type of story he wants to tell. Also the Sisters are a military offshoot of the Ecclesiarchy so I'm guessing the average sister has a more devout spiritual conviction than the average space marine but there are space marine chapters that are probably more militant IE Black Templars. It's a very broad question issue.
Most 40k games are RTS so yeah RT is one of the most approachable. It's not RTS. Other entrypoints are Spees Murine for simple shootan and glorykillan...being Spees Murine is simple, honest work.
just take your time reading all the skills and abilities text and you'll be alright.
I had no idea what I was doing on my first playthrough. My character was a wimp who couldn't hit shit but I accidentally made Abelard into a fucking DPS monster who could attack an enemy if he successfully parries their attack, so he could either run around the map one shotting the trash mobs or he could stun lock the bosses by parrying all their attacks. Shit was really fun despite how completely broken it was.
I see, I just can't imagine any Space Marine caring about orphans like Argenta or whatever. Playing myself I think but I really feel like I could show Argenta the value of being loved by someone who is not the Emperor or the Sisterhood or whatever. Would never get that impression of Titus in Space Marine for example, then again this is a CRPG and more wordy by defualt
Sisters being incorruptible is one of the worst aspects of GW lore. In the Siege of Vraks a group of sisters was held hostage for over 20 years in a Chaos stronghold and their only consequence was being exhausted and retired to a monastery when it was over.
Well the Sisters have the Sisters Repentia, what is the SM equivalant? Because I'm pretty sure it's a bolter to the forhead
Yea IDK about that I don't think there is a romance option for Argenta who is basically a space nun that has never even touched her own vagina.
Deathwatch.
But I thought they Sisters weren't augmented and genetically modified, so how do they rein in their human impulses?
just use guide for the build, you will eventually learn how the systems work, this person here does a lot of guide for pathfinder
youtube.com
there are no Chaos Sisters
lol, lmao even
Just enjoy the story.
I recommend relaxing and taking time to explore.
Owlcat games have a ton of endings and choices actually matter.
I beat it on hard and had no idea what I was doing. My builds sucked though, some bosses took like 20 minutes.
Who knows some bullshit magic of the conviction of their faith in the emperor of mankind.
Oh, this is what Titus was put into in SM2 right? Somehow it seems a lot more forgiving than 'wear nothing but robes and get ripped apart on the battlefield'. I guess the fact that they are revered and not scorned is a '''''blessing'''''
What a beautiful creature
how do they even use bolters? I thought a human firing a bolter would make their arms turn into grains of sand
Cassia is a cutie
But it pains me that she's also a Noble Officer (same as my character)
I'm thinking about respeccing my character to a vanguard so I can protect my navigator wife
Well in the lore the deathwatch is "an honor and a punishment" depending on context. In practice I don't know much about it I've never read much material but they seem to just be a force that the imperium tosses right into hell and doesn't care much about what happens to them afterwords. Yea it's probably not as bad as the repentia seeing as how they are well equipped superhumans as opposed to little girls without armor only armed with chainswords.
Bro honestly use a fucking guide or youtube or something.
I didn't even know lich and other mythic paths existed. I thought there were only 4.
Character builds are a nightmare for first timers. Hundreds of options and some shit doesn't even stack.
Wotr is hard to get into but it is one of the best crpgs ever.
My builds sucked though, some bosses took like 20 minutes.
this is what im worried about, getting 60 hours in to hit this wall
They are wearing power armor. I'm also guessing that the bolter type they are using isn't as high caliber as the space marine variants.
If you want to protect fishwife you have to play something that can actually kill shit, vanguard is a tank in a game where tanks are not really needed
I had Argenta in my party when Chorda took over Footfall and I allied myself with the Liege, executed Chorda for going nuts, then the Eclesiarchy priest character who was there freaked out that we were all sinners and attacked us so I killed him and Argenta didn't say anything about it. Really struck me as odd, even after her big reveal on Commoraugh
I feel like it is the best CRPG of all time if you can get into it but how DO people get into it without help? Like Mortismal plays this like I play BG casually, how though? What background in what field makes this is a thing?
Make sure you have your shit together before Chapter 3 and have a save ready before it. I'm not going to spoil anything but just make sure you have backup saves before a specific "event" happens so you can adequately prepare for what comes next.
Impossible because you can always respect by talking to the High Factotum on the ship bridge.
Finding it hard not to steer towards an Officer for MC who buffs everyone else, am I leaving a lot of dps on the table this way?
I loved just losing hours to this game from all the dialogue and in depth 40K lore, CRPG heaven imo. I can't wait for the next Owlcat game
No alot of people make their main character an officer. There are plenty of companions you acquire along the way that hit like trucks.
She lacks content after chapter 3, its' a shame.
Is this considered the definitive 40k experience over DoW or SM?
??
For an RPG I'd say so. Space Marine 2 is a great 3rd person shooter though.
Rogue Trader is definitely the best 40k game generally speaking imo, for lore, for the visual experience. Mechanicus has the best music, and Space Marine has the best violent visual representation.
Respeccing only helps if you know what you are doing.
I think the jump from SM1 to SM2 was fucking astronomical
DoW is an RTS which is kinda almost the perfect outlet for 40k, but the real debate is Dow1 over Dow2
It certainly was
shame about the voice acting in SM2. Mark Strong really nailed Titus as a compassionate dad trying to give advice and experience to Leandros and Mira.
In SM2 everyone is just so ANGERY AND LOUD ALL THE TIME BROTHER >:((((
Forget about her officer talents, focus on the navigator ones
Think the Sisters can pull of a standalone TPS?
Indeed Brother
I'm confused here, what authority doe the Rogue Trader have here? Can a RT tell the Ultramarines to fuck off if they tell them to assist in a space battle?
Has anyone played the Sisters VR shooter? Heard it got mixed reviews
Yea I'm pretty sure the ultramarines have 0 authority over a rogue trader and vice versa. Obviously though you would be wise not to go out of your way to piss them off.
there basically on equal footing with a chapter master or a lord inquisitor, but that doesn’t mean that for example a space marine chapter will just do whatever the fuck he wants or that he is untouchable by the inquisition.
They have little authority outside of having infinite money. But on the other hand, they don't give a fuck about anyone else's authority either. Because you have a contract straight from Big E himself saying "the bearer can do whatever the fuck he wants"
Just play on a lower difficulty. No shame in that if you're just learning the system.
i also forgot to add that not all rogue trader are made equal, the one from our game has his warranty of trade basically written by the emperor himself, while most rogue trader have one issue by the lord of terra which obviously comes with much less power
I don't understand why a trader has this much power over someone in the military sector or some kind of 'police'. Like I would have though the Inquisition at least would supercede them, otherwise it feels like they have way too much power for what they do
In the game though the Inquisition is a very real threat to the rogue trader. Calcazar was the only character that actually scared me because I knew he wasn't a problem I could just easily solve by killing him.
Rogue Trader is just a title he's a king of kings in function. Your guy is basically like a Hernan Cortez who gets to do whatever the fuck he wants with the locals of the regions he explores.
buying owlcat games' games before 2 years after release
you fucked up
The job of a rogue trader is to basically work “outside the system” which mean making trade with xenos, exploring areas of the galaxy no much devote to the emperor, basically they do the dirty work that the empire can’t do.
Then if nobody bought the game the supplementary material that finishes the game would of never been released. It's a conundrum.
Exactly, and just like Cortez, they're walking a razor's edge the whole time. They're given outrageous freedom, but only as long as it continues to benefit the Imperium. The minute a Rogue Trader screws up so bad it attracts the wrong kind of attention—or worse, stops being profitable—they get Black Ship'd or quietly erased from history. It's a "you have the Emperor's blessing... unless you don't" kinda gig.
The Imperium really doesn't believe in shit huh
Power in 40k is a realistic depiction of de facto vs de jure.
De jure an RT, especially one with a Big E warrant, has the freedom to do almost anything in service of mankind. But de facto that only goes as far as the RT can push it. This is true of almost every high rank in the Imperium. Even Girlyman couldn't just start throwing primarch weight around on anything (he did do it on some things)
They believe in survival at this point.
I would LOVE a stealth game based on the Officio Assasinarium, it'd be a new gameplay style they haven't done yet either
Lorelet here. How big a deal is us creating a demon world? The game kind of make it a footnote after Act 1, but i was under the impression is really bad lorewise.
Ultra mega omega heresy. Instant branding of one of the worst heretics of all time. Directly dealing a heavy blow to the Imperium while strengthening Chaos.
is like creating a cancer cell is that part of the galaxy, it’s going to try to expand to everywhere useless is erased
I wouldn't call the end of act 1 a footnote. You had to exterminatus the world, that's a huge deal.
You create a demon world if you pick save refugee or save engine option. And the game just gloss over the resulting demon world with a ending slide.
i think is because the while scene is underwhelming, in other 40k games like dawn of war or battlefleet gothic you get cinematic/sequences explaining or showing you how the planet degenerates, just comapre this 2 scenes

The DoW2 intro is still my fave
Why do you even play this owlcat slop when you can play Larian instead?
So why didn't Argenta turn you into human lasagna
Are there any essential mods for this like BubbleBuff?
This is going to be shocking news to you, schizo faggot, but you can enjoy both.
I sure hope Boltgun 2 remembered to actually design levels and combat encounters amirite
Wouldn't be mad if they made a BG3 style SM game, dunno why you'd want BG3 shenanigans in 40k but whatever BG3 was a banger
Have we seen the Sisters drop their cathedral whatever from orbit like they're supposed to in a cinematic yet?
It's super fun when you get your meta economy going and your effects start feeding back into each other and you're doing 1000 bleeding damage with every hit
Combat is fun, characters are lively and interesting, world has good amount of variety
Chapter 1 is very well done.
The very start of chapter 2 is a bit slow because you're fucking around on a space station, but soon after it opens up and you can zip around the sector exploring mysterious planets
I recommend the Void Shadows DLC, since it adds a lot of content which is fully integrated into the rest of the game right from the start.
You can recruit marazhai
I like when the tooltips gaslight you during the fever dream segment
You consorted with the enemies of Man
It is true. You did it
Something went wrong with Argenta's development, leaving her incomplete. It's unfortunate. Her voice actress confirmed there was going to be a romance but they never did it for some reason.
Her voice actress confirmed there was going to be a romance but they never did it for some reason.
isn't this unprecedented in the lore? How would we tear her away from the Ecclesiarchy? Also how impactful are decisions here?
Aww. Too hard for a simple mon'keigh?
Nothing say Sororitas can't bang, Ciaphas Cain had a fling with one once.
Isn't the Imperium somewhat the bitch of the Adeptus Mechanicus? So much for the great empire of the God Emperor
They're not celibate. I'm 90% sure sisters have had relationships and children in the lore.
They're the Emperor's Daughters, not his Brides.
I don't think there are many mods at all. I know there's one that adds ship battles as a possible warp encounter which is neat.
but dont they run the risk of attachment to something other than their emperor?
Respecing is easy. It's free at first by talking to fatass Janris on the bridge. Then eventually it costs money but you'll be ass-deep in cash by that point.
I would suggest reading the tooltops and thinking about what you're building, and be prepared to respec and try to party arrangements.
There are good build guides available if you want to try one eg this is one I used on my first run
steamcommunity.com
As for ship combat, take the ship talent that lets you repair for half costs. Scrap can only be obtained from combat so it can become scarce. And remember to assign party members to the various ship combat slots, in accordance with their stats.
Is Idira supposed to be this OP at the start?
She can melt the game, but enjoy the demons!
I love using her
They're too batshit crazy for the emperor for that to happen, you have to be a total nutso to even be picked out at the schola progenium.
Nah it's fine
Sister Argenta loves children and the Emperor equally and that works out well.
They're explorers as much as traders
Reclaim what was lost
Walk bravely first into darkness
like it says on the charter at the beginning. Their authority is like the owner of the East India Company, had it been privately owned.
she would 100% gun down a room of 5 year olds if the Emperor said they were tainted by chaos
I feel that DoW 1 and this are equally good. You're a little bit OP in this game but the vibe is all there.
Good fuck em.
The DLC actually addresses this
On the fringes of the galaxy rogue traders pretty much have full authority and can act however they wish. Though i believe inqusitors have higher authority than them and coerce them as long as they are in the imperium, though If they try that a rogue trader will either use influence to get out that duty or toss them out the air lock
If an Inquisitor has due cause for believing the Rogue Trader is sticking his dick in a Slaanesh cultist's ass in his private quarters he really can't do shit about it? Like, if he slit the Rogue Trader's throatand a Sister was on board he'd get his head piopped by a bolter round?
Well, the inquisitor character in rogue trader does push you around quite a bit. Not Heinrix, his boss.
he can, it's just a question of what the retribution will be. the Warrant signed by the god of humanity himself allows a Rogue Trader to basically acquire as much political and military power as possible.
If the rogue trader at that point exposed him/her self that much yeah they're fucking dead
Rogue Trader = irl conquistador
Inquisitor = irl inquisitor
So it depends. The balance of power can be in either direction.
Reminder that Ciaphas Cain series is full of half truth with the source often only Ciaphas Cain himself and it's a series of imperium propaganda and not the truth itself
the entire point of argenta quest is this.
I got to the House at the Edge of Time in Kingmaker, and seeing Linzi die has kind of killed my will to keep playing. What do?
Argenta acted out of line and should have been trialed.
Which there is no way to do, other than shooting her on the spot
God damn I love rogue trader. Glad theyre making more content for it and hopefully dlc 3 or 4 adds content that fleshes out the final acts
Owlcat could have not been lazy and written out the scenario better. It's literally optional dialogue and companion situational.
It will add content everywhere but acts 3 and 5
It will actually remove content
What, why and how?
DLC 4: The character of Yrliet will be removed entirely
Nah just kidding
That was my favorite tidbit of writing in the DLC.
terminolgy is so confusing
The real grim future was the modern audience.
I didn't even touch the game when I found out that it's not even Rogue Trader, as in the TTRPG system videogamized, like they did with Pathfinder. It's just some 40k RPG, not Rogue Trader.
Strange thing to complain out.
They did use the TTRPG as a starting point but heavily modified it. The stats have the same names and that's about it.
The TTRPG isn't much use for a video game, it doesn't have mechanics you could use on a computer
start a new character intending to do anything other than dogmatic
end up picking all the dogmatic options anyway
You are a big boy
you can do this
Be a heretic
*40 hours later*
THE EMPEROR PROTECTS
How boring. Mix the alignments at least.
Yea it's hard for me to pick heretic options.
Isn't the first heretic option on the bridge necessary for Irliet's quest or something like that?
No, that's rumors stretching all the way back from the Alpha, early beta. Was never true.
you are correct on both fronts
its like how the bolt pistol a commissar uses is human sized and not space marine sized.
the sisters are so fucking fanatical in their faith that they are essentially tapping into the warp and channeling a bit of minor protection from the Emperor of Mankind.
they can manifest miracles and blessing at times as well, which is what their saints are known for.
the difference is that this warp fuckery is entirely separated from the normal brand of it, so people dont realize the truth.
Same shit as the Orks, actually.
you got it all fucking wrong dude.
the reason chaos space marines are a thing is ONLY because half of ALL space marines back in 30k turned to chaos.
These are the remnants of those times.
Sisters of Battle can fall to chaos like anyone else. They just don't do so as easily because their faith literally acts as a shield from such things, meaning you have to go a more direct route and also take them alive.
Taking insane fanatics alive isn't so easy.
Sisters of Battle can fall to chaos like anyone else
Yet we've never seen it outside that one comic
Not at all
say hello to your moneigh father
did they add more alien guns to this game yet? I want cool shit like a starcannon or a rail rifle.
I think some force swords and that's it
Space Marines are broadly speaking more practical than Holy Sisters, and less given to performative self-flagellation
BG3 is boring dogshit and the game is so unstable two years later that honor mode is still a dice roll on if your save gets fucked at Wyrm's Lookout
Toybox, so you can unfuck broken quests, respec at will, and potentially turn off jealousy so you can have multi-waifus.
For example I had to manually trigger one of the DLC quests
because doing pathfinder twice was enough for owlcat to realize that just straight adapting ttrpgs to vidya (especially bloatmaxxed ones like pathfinder) sucks ass and they need modification to better fit the format.
Do yourself a favor and stop there. That dungeon is mega AIDS anyway.
You have to try and save too many things actually, and you're left with a significant debuff. Not as if that isn't how it goes with most planets and their fate.
Got my gender, got her everything else.
Her
That's Marzipan, he can get boy-preggers. The Haemonculous gave him a womb as a joke
damn what about that thing they just showed with a kroot? is that a new dlc or a different game? if it has a kroot maybe it will have other tau shit.
Kroot is for the Dark Heresy game coming next year or so
Though there may be new RT weapons, I haven't been keeping track. There's the new DLC due out next month, that might have something.
And the giant tits?
different game - Dark Heresy.
That is a pathetically small knife for a catachan to be wielding.
I like Jae
Oh those are all natural
Kroot is a girl btw and she will romance you (mandatory)
Same. She has a comfy romance
I can't wait
Said or thought noone ever.
What will she evolve into on a diet of human sperm?
Bimbofication
xeno
outcast
uses a rifle
ugly
Here we go again
Your mom.
Too easy.
the reason chaos space marines are a thing is ONLY because half of ALL space marines back in 30k turned to chaos.
These are the remnants of those times.
Yea. So traitor geneseed was more prone to falling to chaos.
Yet sisters are completely chaos free and none of them have succumbed to chaos worship. Also traitor marines aren't just remnants they steal geneseed from loyalist chapters and also still harvest their own geneseed and implant it to create more marines.
It's never been outright said that sisters never fall to chaos
It just hasn't been shown, for practical reasons (don't want to open the floodgates of sister fetish material)
So just use your imagination and envision the occasional sister falling offscreen
So just use your imagination and envision the occasional sister falling offscreen
I'll grant you that there were probably individuals that had but the sisters as a whole are basically incorruptible and canonically much more devoted to the faith of the emperor than the marines. In the game Ulfar also says he doesn't believe the emperor is a god so you already have in game examples of space marines not adhering to the imperial truth.
Space Marines not adhering to the imperial truth is very standard, at least in the remaining founding chapters.
The Imperial Truth IS the acceptance that the Emperor is a man only. Most marine chapters adhere to that discreetly.
The Imperial Cult is that he is a god, which is what the masses believe.
Marines are pretty different from the average Imperial.
The Imperial Truth IS the acceptance that the Emperor is a man only. Most marine chapters adhere to that discreetly.
The Imperial Cult is that he is a god, which is what the masses believe.
Yea I got it backwards.
