What am I in for? Never played Halo

Pure console slop

Play combat evolved then 2 then 3 then uninstall

the truth.webm - 540x360, 1.24M

Play them in co-op and heroic mode for the best experience.

i really like 1, 3 and reach and 2 and odst are ok

imagine playing a shooter
but the hitboxes are masively forgiving and the guy moves like 2 inches per minute and controls like shit

Kino

FPS kino. Has probably the most poetic narrative in the genre, amazing OST, and world building. You’ll enjoy it.

Halo has 1000000x better gameplay than Half Life

i was doing that but it's still too easy because everyone can just leapfrog off each other due to the incredibly lenient respawn mechanics

You're in for things you've already seen in other games done better.
You're also in for lots of suck as you don't even have the rose glasses of MP nostalgia.
Your only takeaway is to be able to talk boomerese (console peasant dialect).

If you want to play late 90s-early 00s gaems, go play titles not surpassed since: Thief 1/2, System Shock 2, Deus Ex.

iron skull resets to last checkpoint when playing coop

I don't think there is another game that mixes in vehicles with a first person shooter as well as Halo. Not even in 2025.

play these even older games that have the same exact problems I listed out

lol

vehicles

mixes as well as Halo

You're technically correct.

Kek

What am I in for?

kino. Halo 1 - 3, reach and odst are all kino. the other 3 games (4, 5, and infinite) are shit

being the good guy is weaponization

i am aware but that is too much when 1 person dying resets everyone

You will see what Bungie once was. 1-3 and ODST are kino

As you can see, you'll get a lot of oldfag PC master race seethe about it.
Probably a lot of muh Quake, muh Doom as well.
Otherwise it's a decent experience

The mainline trilogy and Reach are kino campaigns. You can just stop after those and play ODST

guess which halo this is

It's fine. I never understood the hostility. The Project Cartographer mod for the original Halo 2 is better than the MCC version though. I'd recommend Halo Custom Edition over MCC but it has no native split screen, so you have to use Nucleus. MCC has the split screen mod on PC which works on Troonix.
Halo 2 Legendary does that anyway. Didn't stop me from beating the game with my dipshit little brother though.

2 player is fine it's the 4 player where that becomes a problem

Yeah true. Halo 3 and Reach 4 player can get pretty bad if you catch a bad checkpoint.

tribes but worse

CE is outdated as fuck. Give it a try and if the first two missions dont hook you than just skip it.
2 vanilla is also outdated. Uncommon opinion but 2 remakes mp is genuinely fun, and it makes 2's campaign look pretty. Do NOT play on Legendary for this one though.
3 is a cult classic. Must play through the campaign and you will have no problems finding mp matches online for 3 at anytime.
Reach is peak. Has a solid campaign, many custom games, fun mp.
4 is weird. its campaign is hot dogshit but the mp is its own version of fun.
tldr, in terms of "fun":
Reach > 3 > 2Re > 4 > 2 > 1

I think the OG 2 holds up the best of all 3 games on PC as far as multiplayer goes (obviously with the exception of custom games). It generally has the lowest time to kill and better maps. If the game had a proper re-release with the custom game features of 3, I imagine a lot of dopamine fried zoomers would love it.

Halo CE feels pretty floaty and off but you get used to it. The best thing about it is the enemy AI, being unmatched by any other game. Even the rest of the Halo franchise. Another thing I like about it is the weapon sandbox. Everything is perfectly designed, and there's really no redundant weapons. Everything exists for a purpose. Game drags in the second half though.

it's pretty fun all the halos are fun in their own way

Wait for the ps5 version with new content and better performance, just like the upcoming gears port

forza

Better on ps5

hifi rush

Better on ps5

Indiana jones

Better on ps5
See a pattern here?

I think Halo aged a lot better than most games of its time just because of how animated and personable the covenant is. When I think of shooters of the time, I think of rigid build board NPCs that that either walk towards the player or stand in place waiting to get shit. Honestly just thinking about it now makes me want to go back and play some, I was surprised the last time I played Halo 2 and an Elite hopped over a physics box and rushed me

CEs campaign nosedives off a cliff the moment the light turns green for copy and pasting the same 3 hallways and room structures. Happens around the missions in those snow hills and caves. As for weapons its just plasma and magnum pistols to shred through everything. Hard pressed to say theres no redundant weapons, the covenant has some pretty dogshit rapid fire weapons minus the needler.

ODST is fine.

I have a bit of nostalgia for it desu but I found them all to hold up super well all things considered. I think playing in legendary is a must especially if youre going to be on PC since mouse aim was never what these games were built around so anything below that feels to easy.

Just don't bother with the 343 shit, you're in for the best console fps games of all time.

At least play on heroic, it's the true "default" difficulty. Normal and easy are jokes. Try legendary if you like the game want more of a challenge. 2's legendary is the hardest, if you can do that, the rest will be easy.

If you want to cheat and make sure you have fun, grab a friend to co-op the games with.

he doesn't know about the f***d

Get comfy and some snacks

2 > 4 > 3 > reach = 1 > odst

1-3 unfiltered kino. ODST = mid Reach = Zoomers first fps.

Just play everything except 4 and uninstall (unless you like firefight)

Yeah true, the Covenant are just fun enemies to fight, Bungie's idea to design these FPS enemies and vehicles like it were a RTS was brilliant

Play in release order:

Combat Evolved Anniversary > 2 Anniversary > 3 > ODST > Reach > 4

Starting with something like Reach and then jumping to Combat Evolved will feel jarring, so it's better to go in release order to see how the games changed over the years.
For Combat Evolved Anniversary, play in Classic Graphics. The Remastered graphics are nice, but the art style and tone clashes too much with the original intention. Plus there's the occasional geometry issue with invisible walls and trees in Anniversary graphics. You'll go to snipe an enemy only for the bullet to hit mid air, you'll swap to classic and there's a tree there now. Also, if you're on PC, there are some audio issues with the soundtracks while in Remaster graphics; the audio is completely fine in classic and the music will play as it normally should. On Xbox, I haven't experienced any audio issues.

Halo 2 Anniversary is much more faithful, though I still prefer playing in Classic. Remaster is fine if you absolutely want the enhanced graphics. However, there seems to be a persistent issue with Halo 2 classic for both PC and Xbox where the music is quieter than it should be, which is a shame because it has in my opinion the best soundtrack in the series. It's also noted that if you hit the "back" button on controller or I think (TAB?) for PC, you can switch back and forth between the graphics instantaneously.

Heroic is the intended difficulty, which allows you to move around and maneuver between plasma shots while still getting a little bit of a fight. Legendary, especially for Halo 2, just turns Halo into a cover shooter.

I personally feel the games have aged pretty well. The matchmaking multiplayer is pretty dead to my understanding now, but the custom games browsers should still have plenty of people. Good luck and I hope you enjoy the journey.

based

They took FPSs and simplified them for console plebs, the game is fine, but its a pale imitation of the genre.

ugh...

It makes Quakebabies seethe to this day as evident of this thread.

OP is a faggot retard who never played these games on the 360

what are talking about? I loved quake death matches

I tried playing the 360 version on xbone a few weeks ago through backwards compatibility and I just couldn't get into it. I only really ever played the multiplayer back in the day so I thought maybe I would enjoy seeing the story and I just couldn't force myself to care.

fpbp

ruby's rebalance of CE turns it into an OK game.

we'll never get halo back Anon Babbleros

dude i've been looking for this video for YEARS, what the fuck is it?

Good old quality campaign.
this
