Games are cheaper than ever before

games are cheaper than ever before

gamers still whine about them being expensive

why are they such whiny little bitches?

file.png - 1141x685, 154.38K

do you know how much fast food slop i could get for the price of 1 tendo?

the same amount you could get back then
one meal is like $15 now

games are cheaper than ever before

That's why I won't pay more than 40 bucks, duh.

comparing a luxury item vs food that you need to survive.

What's the comparison? I would hope the food would be cheaper than a luxury item designed for entertainment.

Now do the calculation with wage after subtracting necessities

because everything else in life is more expensive. the chart isn't properly weighing spending power compared to game prices.

the change in income already accounts for that

you dont need fast food slop to survive

Why do consumers want products to continue to improve for lower prices????

Wow, I wonder. I guess consumers as a group should stop considering their own interests.

the change in income already accounts for that

Not quite. Look at median income. In the 90's you had to work 3 hours, now you work 2 hours to pay for a game.
But food is went from the equiv. of 3 hours to 9 hours in the same time span.
So just because you can technically afford a game in 2 hours that doesn't matter when everything else takes 9 hours+ to afford.

When I was young you could buy a newly released video game for $20. Then $30, $40, $60 etc. Income has not tripled in that time. I don't care what your graph with no source says. Everything is 4-5 times more expensive than in the 90's but income is absolutely not 5 times higher. You are wrong.

Because human mind and numbers and liking to complain and $1 hotdogs at Costco or some shit.

Ya if you're a dumbass and don't cook anything.

When I has a teenager, N64 games cost the equivalent of about 90 dollars around here.

Nintendo games have gotten cheaper here over the years. If they go up again to around $80? Eh, I've seen worse. And I have much more money now.

now show dollar per hour of content, also do another graph that shows cost of all dlc, cosmetics, subscriptions, and battle passes at the end of 2 years

FTFY

file.png - 1141x685, 189.87K

Anon the specific example was fast food slop.

you could buy a newly released video game for $20

no you didnt, zoomie. even NES games were $40 and $50 for the good shit ($100-$130 in today's dollars)
between 1995 and 2023:

food spending increased 62% (4505->7310)

vidya prices increased 60% ($50->$80)

income increased 136% (34080->80610)

so food is relatively cheaper too
the difference is all the added shit (especially tech/phones, subscriptions, cars, etc)
that's the point. he said fast food slop
old games were incredibly short and relied on a dishonest gameplay arcade-style loop to inflate gametime

file.png - 1080x1464, 2.7M

new games are short and ALSO shit

new games are long. often because of grinding so some aren't as fun, but they are still long.

only indie games are short and they're usually much cheaper

This, why are people complaining that prices went up 50% from 60 to 90? I love wasting money personally

so food is relatively cheaper too

the difference is all the added shit (especially tech/phones, subscriptions, cars, etc)

I feel like you are missing the point entirely. First of all spending increase doesn't mean the same as price increase.
Second of all overall income revenue increasing MEANS NOTHING. The top 1% of earners making 100 times the money skews that number by an extreme amount.

the unemployed are over-represented among gamers

fake oldie, SNES and N64 carts were often anywhere from $60 to sometimes up to $80 brand new, even including slop games.
and that's not even adjusted for inflation

file.png - 968x739, 1.25M

Should've cropped out how cheap the console was, kind of ruins your argument

retard who doesn't know how ratios work

hey genius, if

x/y = z

where

x is the amount spent on food

y is the hourly pay

z is the hours required to buy that food

then

(x * 1.62) / (y * 2.36) = z * 0.69

in other words, it will require 30% less time

The top 1% of earners making 100 times the money skews that number by an extreme amount.

learn what MEDIAN income is, retard
this is probably true
assuming that's late 1991 based on the games, $198.88 is about $450

gamurz

mostly manchildren or actual children who don't know how the world works
everything is subject to inflation and games somehow should never cost more than 60? lmao fuck off, that why you're milked for DLC, skins, battle passes and whatever else these days

A lot of game company strategies at the time (And nintendo at the moment) was to sell the console at a loss and gain back profit with the games.

so food is relatively cheaper too

Food has become more and more expensive during the last three years than ever before, thanks to some mayhem in tha slavlands, you retarded oaf.

food prices are fine unless you're buying processed slop

sorry niggers, but no amount of graphs or pictures of old catalogs or inflation statistics are going to make it so that people are ok with things getting more expensive. that's not how people work. that's not how (You) work either

OP is becoming less of a faggot

bullshit

Post how many people buy games compared to 2005. It used to be a nerd thing, now it's normie thing. Their customer base went Up more than 10x in the last 20 years.

okay we'll go back to the 90s when most people rented their games at Blockbuster and you got one game every year for your Christmas present

You could trust Game of the Year additions for all major titles and they were $20 which was how it was all through the 00s. None of this bullshit especially for Nintendo games which only go $10 off, it used to be normal not only to go on sale for 50% off, but for GoY editions to be half retail price and THEN those go on sale.

If food prices increased a ton, maybe people would just stop buying as much food, have you considered that?

The food spend increasing by 62% doesn't correlate with the price of food whatsoever. Food prices have doubled, which just means people are buying less food, but are paying 60% more for the lesser food.

learn what MEDIAN income is, retard

You didn't specify it was median income you just specified it was "income increased". The median income graphs I'm seeing have no increased by anything near 136%

income increased 136% (34080->80610)

the average fucking wage is not 80k holy shit where do people keep pulling this stat from

I am sorry for kids but no, that is absolutely how I work.
As a teenager I spent 100% of my networth on trash games. Castlevania I remember I missed the math on so I had to return it and come back later, shaking and crying over how stupid I was.
I am born a gamer and I Will die one.

OP is losing his edge

doesnt matter
thats a choice you can make, but most wont
household income
pay attention retard (pic rel)

people are buying less

lol retard. look at obesity rates or calorie consumption. people are buying more than ever

file.png - 469x107, 21.47K

household income

Now subtract the richest 1000 households and make it individual wages.

Most will and already have, people can't buy multiple $80 games per year and they'll be more and more picky. I can afford $80 and I still don't buy every game because modern games will waste your time and are generally shit, I can't imagine how poorfags actually do it.

the richest 1000 households arent going to skew the median income, dumbfuck

lol retard. look at obesity rates or calorie consumption. people are buying more than ever

No they aren't. Thats why chipotle is increasing their prices but providing smaller portions. Most food comes in smaller portions at the same or higher prices.
Obesity rate accounts for lifestyle and dietary choices. It doesn't account for the amount of money you spend on food. In fact, rich people spend the most on food and they often get to pick the more expensive but healthy options.

Proof?

KEK

People are obese because our food has no nutrition so everyone is starving while eating 3000 calories a day in cheap food.

€90 shitchhomo is making excuses for big daddy

Bruh.

healthy food hasn't increased in price nearly as much as processed crap and fast food. you are retarded.

Can we not have one single nice thing in this world? Is it simply not permitted to have anything fun actually lower in price over time?

he posts on a device that would've cost $20,000 10 years ago

my first computer cost my parents $2500 in 1991

file.png - 601x340, 23.8K

Sure, if you’re a high school kid who works in fast food. Notice how the minimum wage went up and the median didn’t? That means the cost of everything has gone up along that minimum wage line. And that happened after homes and cars doubled in price

Yeah, why can we not just keep making things cheaper? Isn't that the point? To make good things cheaper for people so we can all live better lives?

Poorfags and Redditors. I'll happily pay $100 for games. Fuck, mate it $150 if you want. We need to gatekeep more.

the video game market is larger than ever

executives still whine about developers being expensive

1000001563.jpg - 1750x1150, 2.04M

number must go down

oh fuck off

My point isn't about pure cost, devices are so powerful (and cheap) today you can literally use your phone hooked up to a monitor and blow the fuck out of a computer you could've owned even 10 years ago.

Here's an idea, if things you want are too expensive, don't buy them, stop buying shit that is expensive, find alternatives that are cheap. It's amazing what happens when you stop buying things because of FOMO.

i will pay $500 for games MIGA MIGA MIGA!!!

$500 for a game? do you want the developers to starve? better prepare to sell your second kidney.

This. Do retards think the MSRP stayed at $60 for thirty years because publishers were being nice?

number of games published per year has 10x'd

all the good games from the last 7-10 years exist are easily playable by any retard

the gamer market has 10xd

completed software is a non-scare resource so there's no supply pressure on prices

Games were overpriced at $60, that's why some bold PC devs and even Nintendo occasionally dipped to $50 or below, while none went higher without packing in special ultimate shit.

If that was true then why did Eggs reach their all-time high recently to the point they had to import eggs just to slow down its upward trajectory?
