It's a neat idea, but I'm curious how they're going to have old tracks just stuck in this new land. You won't have space themed tracks because they'd be in space. Bowser has multiple castles so it's okay for him to have one here, but Peach only has one castle so it makes no sense if her castle is here.

I'm playing through it right now and I find this to be really, really overstated (like its alleged easiness relative to the others). l Its UI isn't particularly different to Pikmin 3's other than the bubble font being replaced with a more standard one, the menus are all contextualised as part of a sci-fi computer thing with scanlines and widgets outside of those like the timer or treasure detector have a metallic texture to them, etc. I can't really imagine finding it to be more "sterilised" than something like (for example) almost everything in Mario Odyssey's HUD being flat white.

There is always unlockable and DLC characters. I personally dont hate when they add additional franchises to Mario Kart, like stop trying to make it Smash Kart. Obvious exception to Donkey Kong characters. I would also turn a blind eye to Kirby Air Riders DLC if they wanna do a crossover type promo when that game launches. Any glaring omissions of characters present in previous installments will be annoying because they have literal who objects as playable characters. BASED Goomba is playable though.

Gimmick Subtitle is the best, 8 was cool for being able to do a mobius strip reference which in turn became a crazy as fuck item. System name just feels soulless and mainly worked with super and 64 because it didn't just slap the name of the platform afterwards.

Games are just getting more expensive to make. Games had been held at the $60 mark for over a decade, and for $50 years prior and would quickly discount themselves. Each of the console manufacturers had a $20 label for their greatest hits. The HD era of 7th gen killed a lot of publishers and developers and budgets went from hundreds of thousands to tens of millions, and now hundreds of millions, really quick.

The $70 push was inevitable. Video games have been very inflation resistant but the extenuating factors, e.g. paying the people that make the games and what those people spend their money on like basic necessities, was always going to exert pressure.

As it is I think we'll only see absolute high end flagship titles occupy that $80 mark. Mario kart, GTA6, Call of Duty, Assassin's Creed, etc. Small publishers will have to make do with $70 if they're feeling confident, or more likely the $60 mark or even $50 if they think that can play to a bigger audience.
That's the other thing though, outside of the major tentpoles and live service titles, video games have basically been selling to the same audience since 6th gen. Not really meaningfully growing or expanding, so the only real strategy in play is finding ways to get more money of the same number of people.

Open world also means no variety of scenic backdrops for your tracks because it will all take place in the same landmass
