This is what will kill 3rd party sellers...

This is what will kill 3rd party sellers, companies like gamestop and game selling on Amazon especially when sony and microsoft implement this into their future physical releases.

Game cartridges no longer have the game on them, they have a code you use to obtain the game digitally. Now when you buy a game off somewhere like ebay, or a used game off gamestop, nintendo will say this game key was already used, and tell you to buy the game on the eshop to play the game. Actual physical games are no more, they're being replaced with digital download codes. You will own nothing and be happy

Nintendo can survive without third party.

Remember when Microsoft tried this years ago, and got blown the fuck out?
Now Nintendo Adults will clamor for it.

This is about anti consumerism. What happens when the servers go down and you can no longer download your games? What happens if Nintendo just says fuck your access and revokes your license to play the game?

Can I pass that keycard to a friend so my friend can download and play the game on his own switch, or the card is bound to my switch / account?

Game cartridges no longer have the game on them, they have a code you use to obtain the game digitally

Isnt this how PS4&5 games worked?

Nintendo of all companies will kill physical games on console first and you're celebrating. Incredible.

some

different

Please read, niggas. Also the people actually buying physical copies wont be getting these since they offer no value, just like the same shit like this on switch they do and no one sane buys. Still very gay of nintendo to do it.

Defacto
Some of them actually did have the game, but most triple A games had you download most of the game from the disk.
Now instead of being an option, it's the law

No they don’t. The only exception would be cod mw2 and onwards where you have to put in the disc and download the game, it came with no code

down the line the servers go down like the 3ds and wiiu's did

you now have a brick with empty cartridges

all so that they can resell the exact same games for the full price

evil fucking company

Isn't this what Microsoft and Sony have been doing for years though? You buy the "physical" version of the game, but it's just a key and you have to download the game anyway.

somehow GME fags will come with some cope that will make the stock bulish

ps3 servers: still up

360 servers: still up

wiiU and 3ds: dead

Who am I supposed to believe?

the keycard is a one time use

Always had a feeling that Nintendo would be ross scott's final boss when it comes to saving games.

You 100% know someone is using the key then sending the game back on Amazon after resealing it. It's gonna be a nightmare.

Okay, huh, why not just include a sheet of paper with a code on it, then? What's even the point there?

people were focus on steam games being the things you do not own that they didn't realize that you have to still download the games on a console when you first put the disk in.

Game cartridges no longer have the game on them, they have a code you use to obtain the game digitally. Now when you buy a game off somewhere like ebay, or a used game off gamestop, nintendo will say this game key was already used,

No you fucking idiot, it's the same situation as Xbox and PS5 games where the game is not fully on the disc. It's not a digital code you tie to your account, it's a cartridge with no game data in it. Whatever console you put it in, once the game is downloaded, it can be played.
You can sell these just fine like any other cartridge or disc.

Makes more sense.
So I assume that, even if the game is downloaded, you cannot play it if you don't have the keycard in the console?

headcanon cope

i'm sure the draconic DRM they've just added to the switch isn't there to prevent resale, nooo

it's the law

Bro the image literally mentions the switch 2 having regular game cards. So now you have 3 types of distribution. An actual game card, a digital game card, and buying the game completely digitally.

good, fuck poorfags

Yeah, same as PS5/Xbox games on disc. You can only play the game with the disc inserted, even if the game is read from the SSD. Those discs, and this stupid game key card thing, act as the "license" that tells the console the game can be launched.

Most games are on the disc on ps4 and 5. Idk where people get this idea they are not. Its a small percentage that require an external download.

i'm sure the draconic DRM they've just added to the switch isn't there to prevent resale, nooo

Just take a minute to read the information page about this crap. Nowhere it says "The game key card is tied to your Nintendo Online account". That's what a code in a box does.
If they were to do that despite this not being mentioned anywhere, they'd get sued to oblivion.

The only reason they came up with this crap is because games for the Switch 2 can be huge, 50gb or more, and no publisher wants to pay for 64gb or 128gb cartridges. So instead of shipping a fifth of the game on a 8gb cart and ask you to download the rest like some Switch 1 games did, they just ship an empty card and save money.

No you fucking dont, you install the game data for 90%+ of them which is on the disc.

I know, i didn't say that's the case. But that's starting to become a lot more common lately. See Indiana Jones. Most publishers don't want to ship games on two discs like FFXII Rebirth did.

Where does it say that? Nothing I've seen anywhere implies that beyond your schizo paranoia.

So there's no point in buying physical?

I cant speak for microshat, but the vast majority of games are completely on the disc and its only cancer publishers like activision that cheap out and sometimes require a download (if the game is even playable offline at all)

Who is more poor, someone who has to sell a fucking game to make money, or someone who resorts to buying a used game?

Isn't the "Game Key" on the cartridge tho?
You can still give it to other people.
All that's changed is that you basically need to be online to install it.
Sony and Microsoft have been doing this for 2 gens now.

This is what will kill 3rd party sellers, companies like gamestop and game selling on Amazon especially when sony and microsoft implement this into their future physical releases.

This won't change anything

Game cartridges no longer have the game on them, they have a code you use to obtain the game digitally

Objectively false.

Actual physical games are no more, they're being replaced with digital download codes. You will own nothing and be happy

Objectively false.

Not likely. This is why Nintendo is doing the virtual card sharing. You can't swap physical cards anymore.

Some of them

Most of them.

its not a one time use, OP is a faggot

the game licence is on the card, and as long as the card is in the Switch you can play the downloaded game
you can sell the key card later to someone and he then can play the game

Uh, we keep the roms stored on our drives like we have for decades? You know if Nintendo Servers go down you can still find the .nsp files on Google right?

The real answer is that we do not know.

the key card is a physical DRM, you own the key and you can sell it or gift it

Game cartridges

That is not talking about game cartridges, as they went over in the video. This is an alternative to selling digital game codes in stores, something some 3rd party games already did, and one of the benefits is that it actually ALLOWS you to resell those digital games back to Gamestop now.
Physical game cartridges, a different thing than key cards, still have the game on them. You'll understand it better if you watch the Direct.

no because to play the game the card has to be physicaly inserted into YOUR Switch

as soon you take the card our the game wont work

The key cards are not the same thing as normal physical releases.
Look at the Nintendo website or watch the Direct.

So it's just like today, but you have to download the game the first time. (And if you uninstall it.)

And if the Nintendo servers are closed down one day, your switch 2 is basically pure e-waste.
Not sure how to feel

T
H
I
S

You can still download games you purchased on the 3DS though, it's only online play and buying new games that's dead.

let me explain to you using Steam

you buy a game on a USB flash drive. the drive has only the licence
you insert the drive into your PC, go to steam, download the game and play it

as soon as you remove the USB drive your Steam game wont work anymore

BUT you can sell your USB drive to someone and then he can use it to play on his own PC because the game never "unlocks" on your steam account

servers go down

"whoooops I guess you can't download your PHYSICAL game anymore XD"

I hate tendies so much

Not all games will be like this, for example Cyberpunk will have the full game on the cartridge

its a physical KEY card not a game, you literally buy the game key to unlock it

It’s pretty much the same as current switch games. Some fit on the cart, some don’t and require a download. I don’t know where retards are getting the idea that every game will have a mandatory download? Anon Babble is so fucking retarded. I bet a lot of them are false flagging steamies.

yes you unlock the privilege of downloading your physical game. now tell me what happens when the servers go down and you no longer have a server to download your game from?

you know Steam dos this also right? why only blame tendies?

i bought a DS2 physical game and got a fucking steam cd-key inside
at least Nintendo doesn't tie down you key to an account like fucking Steam

When a 11gb game pulls this shit, everyone has a reason to worry it may become commonplace rather than a rare exception.

Can't Nintendo also prevent your Switch 2 from downloading the game for whatever reason?

What 11gb game is doing it?

all this poor fag cope

lmao buy your own shit fags

Bravely Default

shifting the goalposts

Actual physical games are no more, they're being replaced with digital download codes

But that's fucking wrong, only SF6 and bravely default have game key cards.

your goalpost is that nintendo will die and shut down the servers, take your fucking meds schizo faggot

Microsoft was much more easily replaceable than Nintendo, but this is going to drive a lot more people back into emulation/piracy.

They probably went for the smallest cart like the cheap asses they are. Konami did this with the MGS collection. Only the MSX games are included on a tiny cart. That’s still disconcerting, though.

you're retarded if you think they wont shut down the eshop in 10 years like they did for every other console before this

bravely default is only 11gb

square enix still couldn’t be bothered to include the full thing on the cart

Peak judaism.

nope, MS tried to tie down your game key to your account, not the same

nigger you can still redownload Wii games, just kys already

They probably went for the smallest cart like the cheap asses they are

Anon, they went for the "No game data at all" cart, AKA, game key card, the whole thing we're discussing, not a small cart + download for the rest.
They could have gone with a 16gb cart which is the second most common one and have the whole thing in it, but instead chose to do this.

like they did for every other console before this

on what nintendo console can't you download a game that you bought online?

who cares. i haven't paid for a video game since 2016

I could handle $80/still getting functional physical copies. But $80 for an empty cart? Nope. I’m done. If every Switch 2 game does this then I won’t ever buy it. I’ll wait as long as I have to until someone makes a working emulator. Not giving those yellows Jews a single cent.

so your wrong? ok thanks for proving me right. call me when they shut it down

delusional

you seem to have a learning disability... can you read?

it was so fucking good during the ps2/ps3 era, where you could just exchange discs with your friends.

vergil_look.jpg - 612x757, 118.53K

nintendo will never shut down the servers

okay they literally said they will shut down the servers but it's okay because...it just is okay???

i accept your concession

but you said that they already shut down every store for every console before this. then i showed you that they didn't

you seem autistic

It's a glorified license key like you use on any other software. You register it once, and no one else can use it.

its not a one use key you dumb faggot idiot retard
its not like Steam

whether they shut down the servers now or 100 years from now doesn't matter. you are literally paying for a license that will be taken away from you at random. this never happened before with physical games. NES cartridges from the 80s still work.

64gb card

That's not the full game.

a CD/DVD can't survive for 100 years so whats your point?

I can taste your tears from here. Of course it's a one-time-use. If you could share it with your friends, don't you think they would have said so? If it was your product you were selling, wouldn't you say "But, don't worry, you can still take it to your friends house and play it on their Switch"?

Use your fucking head.

a CD/DVD can't survive for 100 years

On average, neither can a human.

if you think your Switch physical games are gonna work in 100 years your gonna have a bad time

Of course it's a one-time-use

SOURCE?

that doesn't matter. the data is still accessible until the disc rots. this is setting the precedent that nintendo themselves decide if and when your license gets revoked from you even if you buy the game physically. that has never happened before, you have never been expected to buy a game knowing the company that sold it to you will kick down your door and steal the disc back from you one day.

that has never happened before

like i said Steam has been doing it first 10 years ago, every physical PC game has to be activated on steam

They make it clear as possible you retards still don’t understand it
The game-key card IS the fucking key that lets you download and play the game, take it out and you can no longer download or play the game, put it in another switch and that switch can download and play it until it until it’s taken out because the card IS the key
Fucking read, they literally call it the key in the image

the only way to truly own your games is to pirate them

and if valve shuts down one day without providing a way to keep the games you bought accessible they deserve to get sued for that as well. this is a problem with all digital purchases. they're selling you a license with a random expiration date. until they're required to either disclose the day the product won't be accessible or commit to providing a way to ensure it stays functional forever they are literally stealing money from you.

enjoy your single player mario kart world i guess

They still have regular cartridges that work like they do on the Switch. Says it right there in the first sentence. Why the fuck would Nintendo even mention the data transfer speed of their cartridges in the presentation if they were just gonna be keys?

fags like have 67 IQ

Sure thing, tendie. Wait and see. Nintendo would never try to price gouge you on games like it's been doing the last 20 years by making you rebuy games over and over or anything. Surely this time will be different.

so pay $90 to cover the cost of the cartridge like they're asking.

if the key was tied down to your account why the fuck would they make a physical card you fucking retard?
you would just buy the game from the eshop then.
its amazing how retarded people like you can be, subhuman IQ trash

I've never have a case where I had to forcefully donwload trash to play a physical game in my PS4/PS5

Granted I don't play shit franchises like CoD, but in my experience, I can always erase all data, unplug the internet, put on the disc, install data from the disk alone, and play the game.

Yeah it is.
