How much should games cost?
How much should games cost?
$14.99
Depends on the quality.
What they're worth
remember when he said games should cost more because then there wont be predatory dlcs and microtransactions? lmfao
$20 digital download
$40 physical box with extras
Adjusted for inflation, game prices should have risen to like $120 by now. It is unironically a victory for consumers we've forced these corpofaggots to keep prices nearly stagnant for 30 years.
Orcs.
GUYS WE'RE RUNNING OUT OF BANDWIDTH
Frankly I'd never buy a game for more than $40 nowadays.
At least 40% off, there's no reason to buy games full price if big discounts are almost guaranteed if you wait a few months. Add to that how buggy releases often are you are better of waiting from two angles
Well blockbuster movies cost upwards of 300 million dollars to produce and you can see those for around $10. Obvious you're playing a game for much longer than the runtime of a movie, but you still have millions of players to offset all that.
I think a comfortable number for a premium experience is $50-60. Not my fault the boomers printed 32 trillion dollars and blew the dollar out like a old west hooker
What went wrong was game companies became so big they got publicly listed on stock exchanges and a certain long-nosed rodent got involved on the finance end of the game industry as a result
The only video games worth playing are free-to-play ones.
What is the ideal console/device for a gamer who only plays games and is only interested in free-to-play games?
$30 is when I seriously start considering a purchase on most games.
Isn't this the faggot that said if you play as a Nazi you are actually a Nazi.
$50.00
Games should cost $80 and housing should be half of what it is so that it being 1/3rd of our income is obtainable. Things like gas, groceries, media only seem expensive because the housing monster spent the last decade eating so much of our income and preventing savings.
100$, hopefully it will motivate crackers to make pirate versions of games.
Why? It's a digital good, it can cost as much or as little as possible, and the only limiting factor is how many people buy it. Movie theaters sell tickets for 10 bucks (and they have staff to worry about, in addition to the box office royalties). This idea that games HAVE to cost a certain amount is fucking retarded.
I mean for God's sake, the reason you see so many Steam sales ain't because Valve's a charity, it's because sales bring in substantially more money than pricing the game for "full" amount".
So now that he finally got his wish, how long till he spergs out about Orange Man?
I couldn't care less, I've bought less than a dozen games in the last decade
you're playing a game for much longer
What the fuck does that have anything to do with anything
If video games need to cost more than $60 it's the fault of the budget that doesn't need to be so high.
Industry plant video, what the shit.
And if you ask me:
There should be a price drop since games don't need to be produced physically anymore, which makes them cheaper
There should be a price drop since more people are buying games, generating higher profits
There should be a price drop because all those +100 dev teams have not produced anything of value so if you're sensible just scale it back
Kill yourself, gachanigger.
$30 at the absolute maximum, but the overwhelming majority should be cheaper than that.
Like somewhere from $7 to $15, MAYBE $20 if I think it will be really, really good.
Yeah, it's really just about trying to figure out the optimal balance between price and sales to make the most money. If you somehow knew that your $30 game would sell twice as many copies at $20 then it would just be objectively correct to sell it at $20 and not doing so would lose you money. But if you have to go down to $10 to double sales like that, then it wouldn't be worth it. That's all these companies are doing. They're seeing if they can increase the price to $70 or even $80 while retaining enough sales to make it worth it.
$30-$40. That's what I usually pay since I never buy on launch.
i fixed it
$40 at most
no i don't care about the kike's opinion on that, you managed to fit in in this pricing before you can do it again now
not paying 80-100 for videogames suck my ass wholesale
Yeah, it's really just about trying to figure out the optimal balance between price and sales to make the most money.
That's what a normal company would do, but then you have companies like Nintendo (and also Wube, of Factorio fame) who refuse this mentality on some "principled" basis of wanting to "preserve the value" or whatever.
I will not buy any game over $40.
$100-150 so gamers can't buy every single game on release
Replace coding/programming and art departments with AI, everyone else with work visa jeets, and double the sales price to 120 a pop. Dont forget full DEI pandering for that ((investor)) cash. Also, day one dlc, and gate all in-game progression to paid lootboxes.
There, I saved gaming.
I dunno, he says a lot of stupid shit
however much they need to justify the administrative bloat. DEI trainings and HR departments wont pay for themselves
There you are, paying for $80 games, and suddenly you're a tendie. You didn't ask for this, you didn't CHOOSE this, and yet, there you are.
There is no "should" in determining prices
I dont know. I dont care anymore. Make it $80 or even $100.
Im just not someone how can afford to game anymore and Ive made my peace with it. Have fun everyone. The new switch looks fun, but will I transition to more poorfag hobbies.
I almost never buy AAA games new because paying $60+ for a vidya feels really bad and the only times I ever actually do it are for Monster Hunter games because I know I can get 1000+ hours out of it easy over its run.
Otherwise its sales and trying to only buy at or under $30.
I transition to more poorfag hobbies.
name 3
Yes, there is, retard.
I admire this guy's ability to always have the wrongest opinion every single time.
blacks ARE equivalent to orcs though, so at least he managed to set that precedent
707148927
Hey clown, your material stinks. Find a new act.
30 dollars
kek
woke games should cost 10 cents or less.
60 dollars in 2017 is 78 dollars today.
Where did the extra 12 dollars come from
Paradox: hold my beer
For a mere $29.99 you can buy our giant expansion that adds a whole 4 new button clicks for a nation you’ll play maybe once
Extra Credit was such a shill. How did anyone take their videos seriously
There is literally no retarded statement Extra Credits won't make and then defend.
I say if the game gets censored, the price should be lower. It should go down even lower depending on how much gets censored.
pic unrelated
$30
if your game has any dlc or microtransactions it should be free or you can fuck off
then don't buy it
It's always "whatever the market will bear" until the market tells you to go fuck yourself and starts pirating, then it's "stop stealing and give us OUR money".
Exactly. Not sure why you think i'm implying that's not a thing just because i posted a graph.
Either people are ok with these prices and they'll buy, or they're not and they won't.
It's not about what something SHOULD cost.
$50 in 2000 (PS2 launch game price) is $92.65 today.
So games that are $90 are about in line with inflation.
The real fucker is that SNES games in 1992 were $60+ which is $136.46 and an SNES console was $199 which is around $450 today.
But back then every other living expense was significantly cheaper so people had more money.
There are modern games with sweatshop mechanics and shitty [everything] that should pay the player to put up with them
Why should I care how much they cost? I'm a pirate.
I have a ryzen 3600 and RX 580.
My computer cant even run the latest slop nor would I even want to pirate it.
is yotobi still astroturfing those grifters?
thank god i know how to pirate
do you know how to pirate, right Anon Babble?
nice grapes favelatard
I bet you this faggot is eating his words right now
I'm calling you retarded because "what something SHOULD cost" is a number that doesn't result in people wanting to pirate or wait for a sale. A free market is a decent counterbalance but it isn't a perfect one when video game publishers are competing not to offer the best product for the best price, but to see who can raise their prices furthest to fleece the largest possible number of normies who don't realize piracy and sales are an option. They've realized they can scam more people in the short term by following each other's leads into the depths of enshittification, and you're defending it because it hasn't finished crashing the fucking industry yet.
witcher 3 was $47 at launch and could be reduced 20% more if you preordered and owned the previous games so I compare things to that
games should cost whatever the buyer will pay
if they will pay $200, fine
if they'll pay $15, then that is also fine
nothing else matters but what the customer is willing to pay. anyone who says otherwise is trying to psyop you into supporting their jewish behavior
Why the fuck do you think people not buying a game isn't part of the market?
I'm not defending shit i'm calling out extra credit retards for being retarded once again.
Digitally? $0.00
Physically? I think I'd like to stay in the 70 dollar era for 4 more years at the very least.
Either people are ok with these prices and they'll buy, or they're not and they won't.
AKA the point when people say it SHOULD not cost so much
It's the statement that there's no such thing as what a product should cost that's wrong. People can feel like they're getting ripped off for a long while before they snap and give up entirely. That doesn't mean there's nothing wrong prior to that.
consumers should support paying more money for worse products
No
I'm unreasonable;e consumer that want free
But also I'm okay paying the gen 9 price hike
Falseflagger
Define "should".
14.88
If it's not something I can hold or touch I'm not paying for it and that's that.
$0. Video games should cost $0. I will pay $0 for video games. If you charge more than $0 for your video-game I will pirate it. It costs $0 for you to give the data to me and I will give you $0 back
It took me 900 seconds to post this
Ok, but them thinking that has no effect whatsoever. Only buying or not does.
And i'm saying this because retards keep arguing about the "should": talking about costs, inflation and whatever, as if to convince people to pay more.
$30 again.
No. Feeling ripped off, sour on a deal, professionally antagonistic. These are all very real things. You're just retarded.
I don't know how much a videogame should cost but whatever the value is, it won't affect how much it does cost.
Who cares? It's not like I'm paying for them anyway.
If Indians are remotely involved in the development process whatsoever $0.
I never buy a game that costs more than €40
Also 1 euro coin = 1 hour spent on the game minimum
I dont buy anything unless there's a 50% off or more tag on it, and even then ill just pirate something i want to play NOW
*14.88
20 bux indie
40 bux AA
60 bux AAA
70 bux AAA+
Holy retardation
I do not nor will I ever care about video game prices in Australia, it's not a real country. Adjusting for inflation your games even at $114 aren't more expensive than other countries because you income is so high. AUS minimum wage is $24.10 so its only 4.7 hours to buy the game. The HIGHEST minimum wage in America is $17.50 so 5.14 hours to buy the same game. In many states its as low as $7.25.
According to this board playing a female character makes you a troon so he’s about as braindead as the average Anon Babbleedditor
70. sony sets the price.
nintendo is WAY out of line.
them thinking that has no effect whatsoever. Only buying or not does.
Sure, buddy. That's the only relevant consequence.
reminder: console subscriptions are welfare for fat sweetbaby troon games from the likes of ubi.
$14.50
$20
And if that's not enough to fund the development then spend less time developing it.
Honestly, these are fair prices considering current state of the USD
These are reasonable new prices. Indies can obviously be cheaper and sales and discounts should still happen.
Never pay more than 20 bucks for a computer game.
Do not adjust for inflation, the economy has gotten so ass that you have to pinch every penny harder than ever.
AAA games flopped left and right last year. People are switching to PC, switching to indie, complaining constantly about the state of the industry. Studios are closing or getting bought out, people are getting laid off by the thousands. Do you know why? It's not just because the products have declined that much in quality.
It's because companies didn't think it mattered how much a game should cost.
Inflation has gone up but wages and purchasing power have not gone up as much and most of a games' budget is salaries. Or God forbid, digital licenses that should not be affected.
$0
b-but...!
I don't care
I could buy every game that came out on April 2nd and still come in under $80 bucks. I might even do it just to piss you off. So there's no issue as far as I'm concerned.
I throw these desperate indie devs a few dollars and they appreciate it a whole lot more too. I don't know why I'd pay $80 for Kirby when I could get kirby knock offs for a tenth of the cost, if that.
$80 limited edition with free in game content and a physical collectable
$65 special edition
$60 standard
$40 faithful remaster
$35 AA
$20 indie
-15$ for all digital copies
as much value it has to offer in experience.
I dont care about "the numbers of hours" but the quality of hours.
Some game will sell for 10 dollars but molest you with Mtx and other shit.
and how much it cost to develop also influense it.
All of those games are probably trash that aren't worth your time, and one of them is even another Nutaku style gooner money sink that isn't actually free.
SIXTY BUCKS
this lidar exploration one doesn't look to bad. Relaxing horror, you know, scary, but not stressful.
The price cut for digital copies should scale down with the price of the game. Make it range from -$5 to -$15 and you have a pricing scheme I can completely get behind.
$30. Inflation would suggest $100 or so, but sales have increased so much that a $20 game now would bring in more profit than a $60 game would in 2005, dev costs aside. They became comfortable with that margin, allowing development time and budget to bloat out of control, putting all their eggs in one basket. Then a lot of those 5-7 year, several hundred million dollar investments fell flat due to short sighted corporate trend chasing. At best you could argue that modern games are technological achievements, but the consumers don’t value that compared to the extra investment. So they did it to themselves, and it’s up to them to adapt to the market, not the other way around
So what?
you didn't ask to become a nazi
high game prices are unhealthy for the industry. People will just buy less games.
The price cut for digital copies should scale down with the breast size of the female characters. Make it range from -$5 to -$15 and you have a pricing scheme I can completely get behind and rail.
He did, and for that, I shoah'd his retarded ass from my subs.
I can get behind that
its insane that we even have to debate this
$100
but but
Either shut up or shit up
Why don't we just not vote in retards that will print infinite money for worthless money laundering programs and for sending overseas?
Because the ones who won't do that never make it past the primaries.
$20 no exceptions
about tree fiddy
$30 or less.
i love when corporations stop at nothing to maximize to profit but specifically in a way where they dump money in the stupidest shit imaginable
and then what that fails, they dump responsibility on the consumer to bail them out, and i'm expected to feel grateful about it
he also openly said black people are orcs.
i have never played as a female character and im a heterosexual male
meanwhile most of Anon Babble wants to play as girls and there are tons of troons here,
checks out
Personal principle.
Digital game, <10€
Physical game, <20€
bullsh
Not my fucking problem.
Purchasing power has gone WAY down. But brainlets are only concerned with defending Nintendo, it's not about truth or consumer advocacy. There can only be good feelings about Nintendo.
There is no way to determine the price of a game. The only way to do this is if you can perfectly simulate the sales scenario, put in all the possible values, and find the optimum point where you maximize your profit. But it's impossible to do this simulation unless you can go back in time or something. The price of video games is very arbitrary, and in the case of digital games, 99% arbitrary.
Hope this industry crashes again, all these game studio businessmen can blow me. I'd sooner pirate everything than ever pay nearly 100 dollars for a singular product.
even at $90, games are still cheaper today than they were in the 90's. Too many fucking retards just see bigger number and rage bait mode activates. Of course, the moment you call them retarded, it's "ok shill" and bootlickers, so ya know, dealing with some single digit braincels.
1 hour = $1
Games I make are free, I figure I can torrent anything I want because 'take a penny leave a penny'. I don't torrent though, I just play the games I make.
How much people are willing to pay for them. If Nintendo can get away with charging their fanbase $80, then there's no reason why they shouldn't do it. Gamers are cattle.
nintendo game enters the chat
Is game really good and appeals to my preferences?
I'll pay pretty good money for it
Is the game okay but nothing special?
20-30 AUD, or massive discount/bundle
Is the game abysmal dogshit woke crap?
Maybe not even pirate it.
$60? Devs slave away in crunch and you offer a mere $70?
100$ so it can be a nice round number
i will NOT buy 80 dollar games
puts in $1000 to get the new limited gacha unit
Every game should cost $200. Reason why we keep getting so much shitty games is because neighbor cattle can afford to buy every new release that comes out. If we triple the price of games even the most brain dead normie will have to think about what game they'll buy
The braindead cattle are the ones not willing to buy a game for $200
I think I found a problem with your rhetoric here
Because he said "trans people bad!" so he is based and I have to vote for him even if he screws me over :(
Completely arbitrary until the game is actually released.
$10 games could have more content in them than your average AAA game these days, while $60 games can have next to nothing in them besides some shallow daily activities that force you to keep coming back as if you'll gain something.
There's truly no way to know if a game is worth its price tag until reviews drop.
i bought 4 month of game in december for 50$ on snoystation notheless.
How much should games cost?
Less. They're making record breaking profits even when adjusting for inflation. Meanwhile the purchasing power of consumers is lower.
So there is no reason they should cost more.
Should be $14.88 to be honest.
no one else has had the balls to do what he's done again
it's over
This is the correct answer.
