those hills are a kilometer+ away, the camera is extremely zoomed in. you only get this kind of distance in open world games. meanwhile in your typical modern game a hill no 300 meters away will be as hazy as the furthest hill in this photo.

remember in Tony Hawk's American Wasteland where the levels were connected with hidden loading zones? Well now they integrated it with more gameplay focus, I think that sounds neat.

Basically, there will be no loading screens between races this time around. Once you've completed 3 laps around a course you'll open a different path, with its own hazards and item boxes, and have to drive all the way to the next course for one big nonstop race until the end. That's what the linear maps here are.

I love CTRNF's mechanics to death but effortlessly lapping shitters online every single race wasn't exactly fun and none of my friends wanted to dedicate the time to get as good as me either, so in the end I just stopped playing. Mario Kart however is something anyone can pick up and enjoy no matter what though due to its lower skill and unpredictability with items, and I think that's the real key to its longetivity beyond just the Mario brand recognition.
