One of the biggest issues of 8D for me was the straightaways. There's this tour track I think its the Singapore one, where on 150cc there's what feels like 5 seconds of nothing but holding A and nothing else, since snaking is barely worth it.
I don't care the shape that it takes, I don't need it to be snaking, but if you're gonna make straight aways and wide tracks, give me micro optimisations, anything willl do.
Also hoping knockout can be used as a mode for regular tracks and you make a GP where people progressively get eliminated. Sadly much like Squad Strike in Smash Ultimate is a more limited version of a stolen game mode from a modded Smash game (All Star Versus in Project M), i'm not getting my hopes until proven wrong (MK Wii mods like CTGP & Retro Rewind already have a KO mode where the last 2 players of a track get the boot).
Another issue of 8D is the sheer amount of red shells. When I frontrun in 8D its not the blue shell that scares me, it's the triple reds. And quite frankly that statement may apply to every top half spot. So many reds. Please make more speed items or change the odds. A wish i've always had as well is for a mode that changes the parameters of said speed items. If you want a less frontrun heavy experience, why not have a mode for it where the mushroom's speed boost or the star's is more significant? Stuff like that would go a long way in fine tuning an experience that suits you & your lobby the best.

Hope this MK can dethrone Wii and DS, and with how much Nintendo is basing off CTR (and the reception of 8 overall), I hope they rework the karts and parts system to be more fun

$80 dollars for a game that looks almost identical to its predecessor. GT7 runs on a PS4 at 1080p, there's absolutely nothing about this game that comes remotely close in graphics performance, and yet it runs on 2014 hardware, this game is just so pathetic. I'm also salty that the MP4 upgrade is so slim, I really swore they were going all out on the new consolo with it, what a pathetic shitshow. I'm a massive Mario Kart fag so I don't mind paying for it honestly. It's easily the biggest overhaul the series has ever gotten and it just looks cool.

I think it'll be really fun and refreshing after playing 8 on the Wii U and Switch for so many years, and the only thing I really worry about is how close Air Riders is being placed next to its release and how it makes the new Kirby a bit redundant. The pricing doesn't seem like an issue to me since I'm getting the bundled version anyways and been big on buying digital.

When I hear that you can leave the tracks, and you have to travel from track to track, it sounds like a lot of filler rather than fun, well designed maps. One of the things that has me excited is that old tracks appear to be returning as redesigned portions of this new map. On the trailer rewatch, I realized they were playing Toad’s Factory’s theme and then saw a few familiar names on the course list.

That being said, the price point for this system is too fucking high. I can’t justify $450 + $60-120 (controllers) + $80 (for one game) + $20 (NSO…kill me). Definitely. This game is going for something completely different from a traditional Mario Kart, so I wouldn't be surprised if a significant amount of people would rather just stick to Deluxe. This way the dev team can experiment with new stuff while always having the backup of Deluxe if people don't like it.
This is also why I think any new Smash game would also try for something very different from the usual. If people don't like it, Ultimate is right there.

What even is the point of open world Mario Kart? What do you do in it? Seems like a massive waste of time that just keeps you from the actual fun and gameplay loop of Mario Kart. I can't imagine there's anything interesting to do or find, especially when the game doesn't have the kind of physics of a proper racing game.

I do not see how they can have 24 racers and have it still be fun. Wii was already an item shitshow when they first introduced 12 racers. Also don't see how coins are going to work with that many racers, it's always been an inherently flawed mechanic which disproportionately favours the guy in 1st but 24 racers exaggerates the problem even further as now there will be even more competition for coins.
Track design will be inherently fucked with accommodating 24 players so they have to make the tracks really wide which you can already see in the trailers.

In my mind, if you're driving to Moo Moo Meadows from Baby Park, there would be a mini race between the BP and MMM, where the next race would be MMM. Instead, it looks like the destination is rolled into the "destination" race.

Guys bad news. I just saw a Yoshi turning into Snowman during a race, this means the Snowman and many of the characters we saw aren’t actually playable but merely are power ups. What a bummer.

Kind of, atleast for Grand Prix. The courses have their own layouts but when you go to the next course in the prix you drive all the way to the course in a linear line. From the Treehouse it looked like this:

1st course is a normal 3-lap race

2nd course is 3-laps but 2 of them are used driving to the course with the last lap being the course

3rd and 4th appear to be the same as 2

I'm sure in regular vs or online modes they'll have an option to just race on the courses without the whole "travelling to the next one" gimmick

I really don't get the 24 player gimmick anyway. Mario Kart always felt more like a race against the map itself. The other racers were largely inconsequential beyond who is directly infront and behind you.

Mushroom gp was 80% just driving on highways with little to no turns. My interest dwindled down hard after watching treehouse play through it. The game looks like itll be fun only on 200cc if this is the general design for the courses. Im more interested in crossworlds at this point kek

32 was always the standard Mario Kart number, it seems like they're supplementing the core circuits with the open world segments (which in themselves get treated like circuits)
With that being said it seems like some tracks might have multiple variants - Koopa Troopa Beach has both the SNES and N64 versions visible on the world map and there's a karting complex that houses the first three SNES Mario Circuits too
