It's definitely more than just seed-based RNG. I've tested starting new saves at the same clock time with the same inputs, and still got different results. Some folks think it ties into hardware IDs or even the system environment—like it pulls from your OS settings or something more obscure.

The most convincing theory I’ve seen is that the first time you launch the game, it generates an internal hash using your system specs, username, and some subtle data (maybe even your system locale) and then builds your “personalized” events off that. No two people get the same hash, so the events diverge slightly every time.

Talked to a guy who did a complete binary comparison between game installs on two PCs and found tiny variances across copies. Creepy stuff.

yeah i love how much of the game is arbitrary but also how much of it changes around from save to save and playthrough go playthrough and i really like the style of gameplay where you go down a constant path without retries almost like seeing a different reality every time whether it be in a large way like a whole diff route or in the smallest differences like the tiny changes between game copies

I mean, sure. It's just that ENA and her coworker never seem to be concerned about that and the doors is something they learn about on the spot. They didn't seem to plan to engage with them until it became necessary to get rid of the smoke.
The only thing I hope is that "the boat" will not actually be an ordinary boat but some other wacky method of transportation over the ocean.

Early in the game, before you talk to the receptionist and try to jump into the ocean, legs kick you back onto the island.
I don't see why they couldn't all collectively kick you all the way to where the boss is if you ask them nicely enough once the smoke is gone.

Finally got around to playing the purge event route. It was really cool that I basically had a completely different journey this time, but I definitely feel like I missed tons of stuff by accidentally going the right way several times in a row. Still couldn't figure out how to get phonecalls working either.
