I started a $5 indie game a few weeks ago. Im still booting it up every now and then, it's a great game and bringing me as much joy as any typical nintendo game
AI Limit was a $30 chinklike that came out of nowhere and blew me away, 10/10 experience
suffice it to say, I do not need Nintendo any more. There are tons of games at great prices that keep me fed. The only Nintendo game to truly land as one of my favorites lately are the Splatoon games. Maybe Xenoblade too but I dont really count that as niggertendo.
I could comfortably afford the whole fucking package - DK, Sw2, both Kirbys, MKW, etc. but it feels gross as hell and I'll still feel the dent in my personal/hobby spending budget. When splatoon 4 gets shown off it'll be hard to hold my ground but I'll make it through.

The XSX and PS5 only nominally have a disc drive for the sake of accommodating people that want physical copies. You still have to install the entire game from the disc to the hard drive to run the game because the game would be impossible to run reading from the disc like it was a PS2. This was one of the advantages of the 360 over the PS3, it could read data faster and you could eventually install entire games to the hard drive and just insert the disc as the validation to run the game. There are versions of 9th gen consoles that have no disc drive. They measure read speed in gigabytes per second, exponentially faster than what the 360 or PS3 could do.
On Steam, newer more demanding games mandate you have an SSD. There's no debate, the age of HDDs and optical media for gaming is over.
This is not a matter of Nintendo just picking things for shits and giggles. This is older technology hitting the wall. Regular microsd was good enough for Switch 1, but Switch 2 games will need something with a faster read speed, e.g. SD Express which can at least get into that GB/sec range, at least close to the ballpark of what the PS5 and XSX can do.
