NINTENDO EVENT

Went to nintendo event. Took a train. Unholy hours for the sake of getting the price down to 50 bucks for the round trip. God i hate new york.
Got to play mario kart and donkey kong.
Mario kart is pretty fun, they started me out with a partner to race against, and then moved the entire group into two larger knockout tours. I won, beat the 10 year old child standing next to me. No regrets, some guilt. There was then a freeplay section with some demos. got to check out metroid prime 4 with the mouse controls, played up to the intro with the first boss. Mouse controls are tight, but they had us using a mousepad so i'm not sure how well they will work on a couch, especially a fabric one. Wheelchair game was also fun. Cripples are surprisingly agile. I got to try the mario party camera mode, one of the staff had to fill in as a player. More or less you have to move around to appease bowser. Apparently the version of hades 2 they had is a more recent release than what's currently out on pc.

donkey kong was it's own separate room they funneled people into once they played 6 demos.
Got to play the tutorial and the first main level. Not so concerned about the digging trivializing everything as much so the climbing. But it's only the first level so who knows. In terms of gameplay, it's donkey kong odyssey. I could have imagined it being a dlc mode in the original.
They gave me a nintendo switch 2 backpack, pretty high quality.
I'm somewhat satisfied. got away with not paying for a hotel at least.
Other than that i'll mention that the venue was serviced by actual NoA employees. Sales and marketing specifically. I think i recognized some of them, not sure where.

How does Donkey Kong feel to control? Hopefully there's room for cool shit and levels get a little more challenging than what it seems

this, how was the movement?

Movement's pretty fluid. Game's made by the odyssey people. Dong's not as vertically mobile as mario, don't think you'll be able to chain the same shit as odyssey, although i was never really able to do any of that sort of thing(skill issue on my part). Although his digging ability is affected by momentum, so if you build up speed (not sure how other than jumping off a cliff) you can dig further a bit. Def could be room for cool shit. climbing is definitely a bigger focus than jumping anyhoo.

After the vertical dig are you forced to horizontal or can you dig to china

The vertical dig is just what you get from the momentum of jumping, you'll stop after a bit. Although there's nothing stopping you from punching straight down, since you don't need to jump to ground pound. you can keep spamming the ground pound button, although it was somewhat slow for my tastes. Also the minimap updates in real time with whatever excavations you've done. The kiosk guy showed that off to me specifically. Was pretty awkward with him standing next to me the entire time. I feel that I wasn't as enthusiastic as I would've been as a kid, but then again I've always been a somewhat restrained person.

anon actually giving good insight into the game without being a seething retarded constantly and still having some potential criticisms

For once OP isn't a faggot.

How was the destructible environments in DK? Was it legit everything (or the vast majority of things) and it felt intuitive to actually destroy as you progress?

Also the minimap updates in real time with whatever excavations you've done

So/v/l

Pretty much as vast majority situation. There are the occasional structure you can't destroy, like that tower you need to climb or those arrays of pipe, or structures you need a bomb to destroy (those concrete blocks specifically).
Destruction is pretty intuitive, if something is in your way you punch it out of existence or work to make it punchable. You generally get a clear line of site to the next big thing on the map you need to take care of, like in odyssey. Progression is just jumping deeper into the earth. Clear out the big hole and jump in it. Of course whenever i jumped in one the demo reset.

Sounds interesting, glad to see a game just be silly and just go "Have fun destroying shit".

the venue was serviced by actual NoA employees. Sales and marketing specifically

Imagine having to serve as a waiter at an event full of smelly Nintendies for no extra pay lmao working at Nintendo must suck.

Did you forget the BotW event with the qt 3.14 and the big tittied hoe years ago?

bretty much. just punch shit and throw shit like the monkey dk is
I bathe. Although there were only like 3 kids in my group of 40 something people, but that's to be expected since you actually need to be able to get to the event.
Couple of them were pretty cute. Or maybe I just have a thing for bobcuts.

How was MP4, did it feel exactly like the Prime Trilogy in terms of not just gameplay but the feeling of the world and aliens?

I uhh. never played the original prime games. never got around to it. Got used to the controls pretty quickly. And as for the world, i only played the tutorial area where the federations being attacked. saw a sick ass mech get ready to shoot down a space pirate ship. But yeah there was no exploration in the demo that was available. Just a hallway with a boss at the end, sylux appears at the end and
shoots the artifact the federation was guarding (by accident if i remember correctly) resulting in the entire base more or less getting nuked (although I'm guessing the white explosion is just how the whole teleportation to the new planet thing happens)
combat is tight, movement is tight, mouse control are excellent.

Sounds good then, just from that brief explanation sounds like Prime is back. Hopefully the full game is as good. I assume the intro is meant to just be a basic tutorial setup for getting to the new planet and not indicative of being more linear.

for the first time ever a post deserves to be called a "blog" and it's not, but when i write multiple character limit post threads about a video game. i either get ignored, called a shill, or instantly spammed with "blog"

Retards are probably taking a nap anon, don't take it so personal, this is just a unicorn tier thread right now on Anon Babble.

you'll get my pure enedited stream of conciousness and you'll fucking like it.

How does World compare to 8. The world interaction seems fucking incredible for a Mario Kart game of all things. Reminds me of that one Tom & Jerry movie

IMG_6973.png - 312x416, 223.94K

How did the karts handle compared to MK8? I'm going to the preview in Hollywood this weekend and hope it's as orderly as the one in NYC looked.

What tracks did you get to take a spin on? Any standouts?

Karts handle well, Typical bikes turn inwards, karts outward, and you can still adjust your drift as your drifting. Don't know the full extent, since they had us on 50cc with mandatory steering assist, and drifting is always weird at lower speeds.
Have fun. Enjoy ur backpack.
The whole having to drive to the next track thing and not having the chance to stop or breathe does actually shift things a bit in comparison to 8, plus with the lack of zero-grav devs have more restrictions to work within. Feels like one long race, because it IS one long race. The return of non-customizable karts is welcome, I always thought that shit was somewhat gay. Anyway the freeroam mode makes for a better lobby to wait around in than 8 had.
Bowsers castle was well executed, probably the standout of when i was there. reminded me of the mk8 f-zero courses. got to do moo-moo meadows (which i did quite like), a beach course, toads factory (don't like what they did to the aesthetic) , shy guy bazaar, faraway. oasis

How comfortable is holding the Joy Con 2 on its side, actually? I remember trying it with the originals and being a bit surprised they were relatively comfortable, does the bigger size help with that at all?

(Me)
Anyway for me I got in to play with the non-working switch 2. The magnets were surprisingly strong. I don't think the connector will break under normal use. I wish they had more handheld gameplay, they showed a lot of gameplay off on oled 120hz TV's. It was all 1080p, instead of 4k for some strange reason. The only 4k game was the $10 demo. I played the demo game, guess the FPS mini game, super mario 1 game where it fills the screen as you go. They locked the systems down so you couldn't go into the home menu or fuck with the settings for some reason. Mario Party was stupid. Mario Kart world is definitely a game I'll be passing on. Cyberpunk was fine, Hogwarts looked amazing I'll definitely be buying Hogwarts. They cheered as we left, it as pretty surreal. I left, got lunch, went back to LaGuardia, boarded a bus to the amtrak and headed home, edited the video on my MacBook, and uploaded it to YouTube. It was a fun event. They said no cameras but didn't stop me with my Sony a1 and MacBook pro. Everyone was super friendly. Makes me definitely want a switch 2.

Not op, I'm the other asshole who went. Better but not great. Still way too thin. I'll be using a grip case. Them being longer helps a tiny bit. The bigger joysticks felt pretty good.

only held it like that for the wheelchair game and prime, but its pretty comfy. not sure how it would be for hours at a time, since i got like 12ish minutes with those two games total, but it was bretty comfy for the time i held it. And the bigger size does help quite a bit.
glad to hear you got some sleep on your trip. I was in the purple group, so i was probably later than yours. Dong was at 4pm for me. although the backpack was a nice piece of compensation for the travel time i think.

brother the more people who went to the event in this thread, the merrier.

Yeah red group was 10am. I was tired because I'm from the west coast. But I had a lot of fun. Meeting with a few other tendie toobers was nice. Swapped numbers and some B roll footage for their footage. It was a really good experience. NYC wasn't that bad for me. Just crowded. LA is crowded but not as congested. Also the amount of people bumping into me made me quite uncomfortable but that's just how it is there. Nobody tried to steal from me. The police had rifles and seemed very no nonsense.

Like you could play 8 3rd party games. I didn't know that until the end. They entered us into a chance to win a switch 2 mkw bundle by the way. 4 winners per color so keep checking your email. I got my fill. I've been sick ever since getting back home. Feeling better today. I slept for like 2 days, idk if it's just the travel, because I travel a lot. Idk I loved it.

they entered us into a chance to win a switch 2 mkw bundle

o shit i didn't hear anything about that, although i was one of the first people out. Were we entered automatically?

feeling sick

yeah i feel that brother. I went to disney world a month back and I managed to come down with bronchitis when i came back. I've been hacking and coughing ever since.

It's funny because they had one in LA and you could swap your location and I didn't know that until after. I would have definitely went to socal instead. It's an hour away instead of a 65 hour train ride. I guess people were getting NYC invites from Europe for some reason. Idk why they funneled everyone into NYC. It's whatever. It's over and I'm glad I went. The video made me $17,000 so far in revenue. My biggest video ever.

Yes it's automatic and tied to your registration email. Yeah they didn't really announce it until they funneled us out. Some people left early for some reason in the morning as well. I guess they were driving cars. Fuck that, I'll take the train. I bought some antibiotics and they're helping.

Oh and one last thing, we will be having a drawing and everyone who attended today is automatically entered into a drawing to win the Nintendo Switch 2 Mario Kart World bundle!

The fake acting and people cheesing it up in red shirts felt very 1984 but it was harmless fun I guess. It was strange that it wasn't just content creators but people with their families as well. So it made recording video hard.

Just make sure you blur people's faces out.

I plan on it.

And I did.

Are you sure? I was able to register directly for the LA one when the interest check was open. I figured people were just going to the NYC one since it was the first preview city/where the influencer and press events were.

it's automatic

Thank fucking god. I'd have a stroke if i learned i missed out just cuz i got through the games too fast. and 4/40 isn't that bad in terms of odds.

guess they were driving cars

It's a five hour trip on the tolls home for me, made that trip once to help family move stuff in a uhaul. Never again.

fake acting and people cheesing me up

I was never able to differentiate between people being actually enthusiastic about something and faking it. touch of the tism and all that. Always felt embarressed being loud or cheerful, and secondhand embarassment when somebody else was being loud or cheerful. Was never one to really have an over the top reaction to a christmas present. Feels bad man.

and i did

lol. lmao.

But anyway on the handheld, I wish I played more of, the HDR was nice and the LCD was definitely IPS. I would dare say it looked better to my eyes than the switch OLED. However the televisions they used, made it look a bit washed out. I'm surprised they did that. The 8" screen is a pretty huge upgrade. I wish it had a smaller model. I played tears of the kingdom instead of breath of the wild, because less people were playing totk, and it looked great. 120fps at 1080p. It wasn't as good as say, a 4080 with all the patches the Internet has using yuzu, but it was very very good. If you've never emulated, it's kind of mind blowing. As a handheld player, I'm very excited for it. It'll make bedtime a lot more fun.

Anyway that's everything I took away from the event. It's a good upgrade. I wish they showed the homescreen.

Yes, if you attended with a badge, you're entered to win. 4 per color. Idk how many people went. Idk if we share colors with everyone who went on different days.

I have nothing to contribute but I like this thread

Mario Kart world is definitely a game I'll be passing on.

Your issues with world? I think the biggest I've seen that I agree with is the design of the connecting stages for GP Mode, but I won't write the game off if you can play the standard three laps of any course on versus mode.

Yeah there were kids there. I was like

What the hell Nintendo?

I was under the assumption it was for content creators and that they'd do the normans and karens and little timmies later. I get that some creators have kids, but none of us would EVER bring them to such an event. It's dangerous as fuck. Especially to NYC. It was definitely uncomfortable. Only drawback for me as a creator. I get that kids might watch my channel, but I'm removed from them normally. Having some rando 13 year old run up and hug me was very uncomfortable. I was very cordial but I was like

I'm sorry but I'm not your friend. I'm a stranger you watch on the Internet.

The father was cool about it and all. I was more scared of getting punched in the face or shot over it. It's insane how unbelievably badly managed it was. Like zero thought put into who was attending on what day. East Coast is different from West Coast I guess. We don't do human contact out here. My wife and I sleep in the same bed with different blankets. Absolute culture shock for me. People were shaking hands and hugging and laughing really close to each other. That shit is unheard of out here. We just don't touch each other. Friends walk together stand like a foot apart. Personal space is sacred lol. Out there it's like people having softcore sex in public is all acceptable. If you're autistic like I am, come to California. Autism paradise my friend. We don't judge. We don't touch. Fuck we don't even acknowledge each other unless you're standing in the way of something.

I just didn't care for it. It's not a bad game and it's definitely pretty. It's like saying

I hate chicken

People look at me funny. But it's a good game, well put together, but not my type of game. If I win the bundle, I'll give the code away to a subscriber. Or give the system away and buy one without the game.

Yes you do! You're here! :)

I was more scared of getting punched in the face or shot over it.

What the fuck is wrong with you people

Touching other people's children, no matter where you're from, is usually a bad thing anon.

If I'm reading it right, the child was the one giving the hug, getting shot because someone's kid grabbed you is pretty fucked up unless that child received something else we're not being told about.

californians really are mentally deranged

Out there it's like people having softcore sex in public

bruh
you are a pedophile and being around kids made you feel horny
just admit it

Did any of you see any important Nintendo employees? I was watching a video recorded at the event by a random youtuber, and suddenly Koizumi was there watching people play Bananza.

Based :D
Not that anon btw
