Which stick placement?
Which stick placement?
Anything that has the left stick closer to the outside. Mark Cerny sticking with the dual shock layout for the sake of branding over ergonomics is deranged.
Both on bottom. Just feels better.
Anything not the wii u style is fine.
For ages I would have said the Xbox style, but recently I've found that it's a bit easier to hit the d-pad with the lower part of my thumb while not taking my thumb off the stick. This has come in handy now that more games are mapping functionality to the d-pad rather than it just being an alternate movement option.
the nintendo controller
the dpad and face buttons are placed ideally for small hands intended for 2d kiddie games
the joysticks are placed far away for big hands intended for big boy shooter looters
Sony layout unless the controller has shift layer functionality, then it doesn't matter. I feel zero difference in comfort, so it simply comes down to how easy the d-pad is to access in games that utilize both it and the left stick.
the one that every modern controller is based on
it's retarded, but it's the kind of retarded that I respect
I use all three, and while I prefer symmetrical I can swap between configurations without issue
I think the symmetrical analogs on top that Wii U had was pretty great and the asymmetrical from the Xbox was a downgrade although still better than Sony’s retarded placement that all these fags are used to how shitty it is
Any of them because I'm not an obsessive autist that has a meltdown if something is slightly out of place
Left stick above d-pad. Right side doesn't matter.
Either of the first 2 are fine, 3 prevents me from utilizing right hand claw stance properly
I don't really give a shit my biggest issue is that the DS3 is TOO FUCKIN SMALL
I used to prefer the Xbox layout but now I prefer the Dualsense layout, I think it was only size making me prefer Xbox. The dualsense is larger and I definitely prefer it over the the tiny-ass modern Xbox controllers.
Xbox makes the most sense
spotted the snoy
wiiu pro is the goat
i like dualshock controllers more because you can claw grip to use the dpad if needed
I played at least 200hrs with the switch pro controller on elden ring and it was like a dream. Good controller for 3d games and 2d menu navigation.
i've been playing with both for so long i don't notice or care about the stick placement, they both feel natural. it's more about the specific controller for me than the stick placement.
i like the feel of the dualsense better than the xbox series controllers, but i use an xbox controller because of better pc compatibility. rechargeable battery packs are a nice bonus. don't give a shit about gyro
i am thinking about buying a vader pro though
Anything but the XBox one. Hate that for 2D stuff
The WII U gamepad felt so fucking terrible
Sony.
I'm not going to elaborate, as thinking otherwise is surely a sign of being uncultured swine incapable of the reasoning necessary to understand why low set, symmetrical sticks are ideal for almost all console dominated game genres.

Nah
Switch pro controller. I love it, feels so good to use. I got a better d-pad for mine and I've been using it for years.
I don't care about Switch 2, but I will be buying the pro controller 2.
literally the worst for racing
I don't care what anyone says, the N64 controller was the best by far for console FPS and more games should have used Goldeneye's aiming system
Xbox design just feels great in my hands, especially for FPS games. Can't explain it. Never used the Wii controller but it seems good. The Steam Deck has a similar layout and that's by far my favourite controller design so far, so I'd probably like it.
However I hate the placement of the Playstation thumbsticks. It just feels so unnatural for your thumbs to be resting like that on the thumbsticks so low. It's terrible.
High IQ: top sticks
Mid IQ: asymmetrical
Low IQ: bottom sticks
There is no debate. But I will answer your questions as to why it is this way.
prefer PS style. Wii U style is acceptable
asymmetrical sticks a shit
D-pad/face buttons being easy to reach for the off-hand is important for souls-slop, which is all i use controllers for. Nintendo is unironically the king here, even though I use an Xbox controller.
Fuck off. The default position for most games is one hand on a stick, one hand on face buttons. If all you care about is symmetry for aesthetic reasons than you are a retard.
Fuck off. The default position for most games is left hand on left stick, right hand on right stick, fingers on the action shoulders.
I have thought about this VERY carefully OP. And I've decided that the way you determine this is the way you hold the Wii nunchucks at rest. Angle and positioning. I hold it xbox style, but I've seen other people's natural angle be close to the other styles.
left
Can only be clawed on the right stick. Subpar design.
middle
Can be clawed on both sides.
Ideal design.
right
Cannot use claw grip at all.
Full retard design.
Playstations. Also, the xbox face buttons are too clicky, but I don't mind the stick placement, I just prefer the dualshocks.
Bottoms sticks is ergonomically superior for normal human hands.
Think about how you hold a cup or grasp something. Your hand position is most natural when the thumb and forefinger are in a "C" shape.
Sticks too close to the top force your thumb unnaturally close to your forefinger, causing fatigue quicker. This doesn't affect a Dpad or buttons as bad since using them requires little range of motion.
Nigger why are we closing our eyes taking a trip to the world of imagination when everybody has held a controller and they know where their thumbs are comfortable resting. Jesus
You could not possibly fuck this up, so I absolutely believe you that your thumbs are comfortable where you say they are, but this is not universal. There's not even a universal for one person on the same controller, let alone different controllers. If you hold the controller high or low, you get different results with the same thumb angle.
The correct answer is asymmetric stick placement is ideal for most games.
For a few particular games, the Wii U placement.
The Playstation controllers have always been wrong. Only baby hand fags defend it.
This entire thread is arguing with stick placement is superior, I'm just donating my 2 cents.
I'm sure you have an opinion as well that goes beyond "durrr everyone is right because everything is relative!!!1"
I love how every asymmetricalfag's arguments always prove they're zoomer shits who don't play 2D games and use the d-pad.
On this matter, no. Your thumb angle is what it is and no reasoning will change it. My thumbs are more comfortable higher up, my hands are not your hands. Other than that, it's what you're used to.
If you want to talk about good and bad, users need to have common problems at stake. Like face button arrangement, is it ok if the dpad is small, etc.
I don't notice any real difference. They all work fine.
That's just an argument in the weeds really. If we're debating the 3 competitors of modern consoles, I'd imagine the context would be playing modern games on those consoles. If this was about retro gaming, then the whole market of third party controllers would be debated unless you're really buying those games from corporations again. And that said the playstion dpad is fine but it's not amazing and there are better choices.
