Pokemon peaked here

Pokemon peaked here.

Hi Imported Cheese.

MIGHTY BLOW FROM THE WORD GO

You were supposed to use your Red/Blue/yellow Pokeymonz since Rentals were purposely gimped.

DIdn't realized until I was older.

No surprise: The world peaked in the year 2000.

For me, it was Pokemon Stadium 2.

the announcer is so fucking hype. needs to be a thing in mainline games

I like Pokemon XD: Gale of Darkness more
In the first one the Shadow Pokemon were too generic and boring.

The announcer for this feels so anemic when compared to the one in Stadium 1

you never got to grow up to see a mainline game with all the soul of the Stadium games and the grand adventure feel of the anime

Gale of Darkness was good, but Colosseum had more challenging battles and a gritty atmosphere that GoD failed to fully follow up on.

100% TRUE
RIDE THAT SURF

Feel nostalgic

Still have all my old consoles and equipment.

Go back and play through all of Red & Blue, then play Pokémon Stadium like God intended.

That fucking late game

Holy shit, what an amazing ride, and I can't believe the fucking shit this game pulled. Fucking NPCs using top-tier strategies relying on bugs? I learned more about high-level Pokémon meta (for Gen 1 at least) from this one game than I've ever learned playing anything in the last 15 years.

They need to do this shit more often. What a lost art.

Thats true, its just that whenever I want to replay one it will usually be the second. If you put the shadow pokemon and purification chamber of the GoD in the original it would be peak.
Also maybe retranslate it Colosseum's translation is god awful.

Pretty fun game
Wish Nintendo did nuke the roms

the first stadium game (the japanese only one) was pretty much just the 40 or so pokemon that were used in tournaments at the time. pretty sure some of the trainers were named after people who placed at official tournaments too

It's literally the same guy and a lot of clips are recycled

How convenient, just today I played Pokemon Stadium 2.

had completely forgotten I had played a good bunch of it years ago

missing three Poke Cup cups

at Team Rocket in the GLC

Also, I swear the rental Pokemon in 2 are way worse than in 1. Jolteon with Zap Cannon, Starmie with Waterfall and Zap Cannon, Nidoking with Mud Slap and almost all of the Johtomons are downright useless outside of the gimmick ones like Wobuffet, Explosion Pineco or Mirror Coat Corsola.

I do want to go back to 1 and finally beat Round 2, but that requires so much research and ungodly luck to beat with rentals.

Honestly, the compression of his voice helps sell his hyping a lot.

The worst part is how fucking long it takes to level up Johto Pokemon to be usable in tournaments.

Ok, I was 10 years old when Pokemon came to the USA.
And I cannot tell you the feeling of joy and happiness I felt when I was able to see the Pokemon that I trained (grind) so hard coming alive on my living room, it's a feeling, no I do not know of any other games that had made me feel that way.

the grand adventure feel of the anime

The anime never had that. It was always saturday morning slop.

I'm almost embarrassed to remember that kid me would think that Pokemon would only improve as time went on.

Pokemon Stadium 0 is better

It did improve for a while until XY

BW was a regression.

It seems illogical that it should get worse. Exploring more of the Pokemon world and going forward into a future that knows more about Pokemon should've been a slam dunk. But Game Freak slowly lost the willingness, or ability, or both, to embed their game worlds with the sense that something more was present than what was on screen.
Now abstraction is an entirely lost art in games, and an entire generation of people is out to insist it never existed at all. The impression an entire generation of people all got from Pokemon was a collective hallucination, it never existed in the first place. Red and Blue didn't feel big, they felt tiny and simple and easy.

It was at worst them holding position. Not like XY. XY packs most of your post-credits and repeatable activities into literally a single city. To the point that the Kalos elite four and champion have one team each, not even a single level up for the rematch. XY started our descent into the ride legendary nonsense that currently defines "navigation" in Pokemon.
Just about the only credit I can give XY is that it stuck to additive design rather than daring to try and subtract mons or mechanics like GF would in the future. Oh, and the lower screen features kicked ass, unlike BW.

post-credit and repeatable activities in a single city

The leak suggests that there was supposed to be a whole southern Kalos being scrapped, like 2 cities and 2 towns with several dungeons.

Oh, and the lower screen features kicked ass, unlike BW.

I tend to give XY a pass because of that, and since it was the first true 3D mainline game , I never expected it to be perfect to begin with. And it finally gave me a T. rex Pokemon.
No excuse for anything that came after, though.

Battle Island (Facility)

there was going to be a battle frontier for Kalos and it was cut

Thanks, I want to fucking die.

BW was a stumble, but they at least tried new stuff. A lot of it was terrible, and being forced to use the regional birds and fucking MONKEYS for early game soured a lot of people right out the gate.
The biggest problem BW had was it failing so hard, that GF decided to never ever try something like it again.

Same, everyone that has ever worked at Gamefreak should be publicly executed.

Pokemon always leaves so much to be desired for me. Too many mons are gated late or behind trading nonsense and the game is over right when you're really filling out your team. Post game is mostly empty exploration or gimmicky challenges. Dungeons are mostly shit.

Nobody tends to mention how, for an American-themed region, Unova didn't really feel like America. From the new Pokemon (except maybe the Pidove line and Braviary) to the general vibe to fucking knights being the big bad. Just off the mark and tasteless.

I think BW's problem is that it misinterpreted design decisions that Gen 1 made.

gen 1 makes type interaction a non-mechanic until gym 1

where rock resists every move you're likely to have

except one on your starter

even Pikachu is locked out here since Geodude and Onix are both half ground type and resist its one electric move

What you're supposed to learn from this is that elemental damage tends to do things physical damage won't, but is consequently rarer and has other limits. It's not supposed to be a lesson in any one type interaction but a lesson on the core dynamics of types in general.
What does BW do to ape this?

type interaction is nonexistent until gym 1

which just tries to counter your starter

even neutral hits aren't threatening enough to demand you use the monkey that beats theirs

also you were forced to catch the same 3 things for like 5 routes, whoops haha

What you're supposed to learn from this is that grass beats water and water beats fire and fire beats grass, but normal doesn't beat anything or get beaten by anything (yet). It feels like they forgot that the type system was meant to represent something and made a reference to the game design rather than the thing the game design represented. If that makes any sense.

Pokemon games have only gotten better with every new release.

that was the last time i touched a pokemon game.

abstraction

This is why gen1 towns and dungeons are objectively tiny but feel gigantic. It's a half step into the final fantasy esque overworld map where every tiles is representing a fairly large distance and the character sprites are just blown up for visibility. This also fits with all the buildings being ten times as big on the inside, the ss Anne being an entire dungeon even though it's not even half the size of the screen, etc...
Then later gens added in more detail, but at the same time unwittingly crippled the scale so everything feels microscopically small and barren.

I fully agree. I have never been more hyped up over a game than I was this. I still remember how impatient I was in the weeks leading up to its release like it was yesterday.

developed by EPD and not GF

says a lot

The later gens don't do it all at once. Looking at Gen 1-5 is like watching the Big Crunch in slow motion. Then it all comes crashing down as soon as they're forced to make 3D character models. Now we get people who don't understand that random encounters are meant to imply the things you're encountering exist in the area passively, without having to show them sitting around doing nothing waiting for you to poke them. Now what do we get? Every Pokemon you might encounter sits around in the open waiting for you to engage them in a sanctioned Interaction. Maybe if you're lucky they'll have a radius where they'll Notice you and start an Interaction of their own!
It makes me sick to my fucking stomach.

Get on with the times grandpa.

Three STILLS from the end of the FIRST MOVIE

Get a grip.

implying the movie wasn't part of anime

Everybody laugh at this retard.

But the anime never had a sense of grand adventure. It was a literal monster of the week show.

How many times would you like to be proven wrong?

The anime DID get worse over time though. The OS felt amazing and like kids going on an adventure in an unknown world. Later anime seasons and the games feel like the protagonists are going through a theme park.

To be continued on the next weeks monster of the week episode? lol

End of episode screenshot after they met the new mon of the episode

That's what I thought. Until your next retarded outburst.

A sense of grand adventure would be if they climbed that mountain. Not looking at it.

y-you are mad!

Strongest pokefag argument.

Thanks for proving you've never watched the show and how no idea what you're talking about.

snow way out.jpg - 1200x630, 74.62K

I remember that ep. They nearly died! Had to huddle up in a cave while charmander used its tail to keep them all warm. But anyway, they never showed the cast going through anything that screamed grand adventure.

Wow is that another episode where Team Rocket tries to kidnap Pikachuuu?

Pokemon combat is ass and it always has been. The only good part about pokemon is collecting moms, so no, you're wrong.

moving the goalposts THIS hard after being proven wrong through your own criteria

Incredible, how will he cope next?

that screamed grand adventure

Bot or IESLB? Call it.

That's a valid sentence construction, he's just missing quotation marks.

At least Digimon anime felt like an adventure with real challenges and obstacles. But Pokemon? Nah.

"valid sentence construction"

loved this shit so much

theres a secret fight at the end

Kids walk on a path surrounded by forest

Kids walk on a path surrounded by forest...again! And it looks like the one in the last episode!

Kids are on a boat!

They go to an island for an episode!

To give a sense of grand adventure, sweeping vistas of vast landscapes are needed. A narrow path in a forest or random island doesn't cut it.

First and Second gen were the only good Pokemon gens

continues to prove he didn't watch the show

Ah, so that's how.

It's quite sad to see you cling into you childhood this strongly. Got anything to tell us?

I watched it when it was new. Don't be mad that people are calling it out.

Clearly you didn't.

Clearly you did.

that but Pokemon Puzzle League for me

mfw Mewtwo battle

WHEN YOU'RE HOT YOU'RE HOT TOO GOOD FOR YA HEH I KNEW LET'S GET GOING PLAY WITH ME I'M GONNA WIN OHOOHOO I'M FEELING GIDDY HIYA CUTIE

Yeah, I'm thinking I won.

.. the Losing battle.

Yes I did. I remember the episode about the fuck huge dragonite. I remember the episode with the island of giant pokemon, the episode that was basically wacky races. The episode when Ash went to that battling school. When they were stuck on the sunken S.S. Anne. So, yeah, I was around when it was new. What happens when you're born in 1992.

KINOOOOO

Poor, kiddo. Mad that his show isnt as grand as he thinks it is. It's ok. You can wear those rose tinted glasses.

I'm not even the same guy you're talking to, you're just wrong and watching you stumble over yourself is funny.

N-NTA!

Sure, pal, sure.

I W-WATCHED THE SHOW!

Sure, fag, sure.

Isnt it time for your next grand adventure (changing your dirty diapers)?

Wow, look at all those things you described that would happen in a grand adventure. Thanks for proving my point.

Nah, that would be making you cry some more.

Not really. Its still wacky situation of the week. Record of Lodoss War, is grand adventure. The Pokemon anime, isn't.

Pokemon Stadium filtered me but Holy damn did I love 2. A game of nothing but battles was theoretically garbage but hell did Pokemon Stadium 2 sure make it's Gym Leader Castle feel like some hot shit.

dr-light-nod.gif - 274x206, 2.42M

I watch REAL anime

Ah, that's what this is about. Proving you're the big boy with big boy tastes in the Pokémon thread. You sure showed 'em.

Crystal Clear showed us that romhacks can be better than mainline games.

We need someone to take crystal clear and make a 3D Pokemon game with solid game design behind it.

Very well said. The transition to 3D took the charming pixel art simplicity and made the games look plastic. XY onward has just felt so dead and linear

Uhh no sweaty, that would be you

it was a romtranny shill thread all along

wow!

I remember my mom getting me out of school early to take me to get that game. Then one day, my dad gave my N64 away, and all the games I had for it, to my druggie brother with a criminal record. Who then proceeded to sell it, for of course, more drug money. Old bastard didn't ask if I was cool with giving my N64 away, he just gave it to him.

Nah bro, a grand adventure is a long road taken day by day.

Ash and the gang were always seeing crazy new stuff that made you question if the world was a lot bigger than we ever imagined.

Yeah like uhh Team Rocket and then uhh Team Rocket again and uhh Team Rocket again and uhh...

I literally played this with my girlfriend this weekend. She loved it, then she sucked me off.

Evergreen.

pokemon will never feel like this again

Feels bad.

Called growing up. Crazy.

Yeah, it also doesn't help that Pokémon stopped being good.

Called a lie. Crazy.

?

?

Yeah. Gen 5 ruined everything.

Not only that: evolutions had worse abilities the more advanced they were. I didn't give a shit, tho.

Still, it was VERY cool to see my team in 3D. Wonder if kids today have something like that. The months leading to Stadium's release were great, with my cousins, my brother and I dreaming of using out pokémon in 3D.

My 13-yo self ended up hating the anime and dropped the games because I got fed up with Ash being an absolute retard.

which is better Anon Babble, Stadium or Stadium 2?

Still, it was VERY cool to see my team in 3D. Wonder if kids today have something like that.

I think the closest you could get to that kind of leap these days would have to involve VR in some way. Going from ugly gameboy sprites to full 3D models was massive and a similar leap is really hard to recreate today.

I only ever got to play the first Stadium so Stadium.

this post got reported

Lol absolutely seething

Civil discussion only please.

This is as civil as it gets in a pokemon thread, friendo.
