The PS3 wasn't a flop. It did start off with slow sales thanks to its retail price, but sales did pick up and it did sell well once it got going. And it is a respectable benchmark console with HD blu-ray literally invented for it as well as the first multi-core console.

And if Nintendo can survive and even turn a profit from the ass-beating it took from Sony during the PS1/N64 days, then it'll survive and turn a profit from this.

Even if Nintendo completely bombs this generation, they still have a metric shit ton of money from the successes of the Wii, DS, and Switch. Nintendo isn't going anywhere.

It's barely more expensive than the switch 1.
Converted for inflation, the switch 1 would be 400 dollars today. So that's around a 12% price increase, holy shit somebody put this thing out of its misery it's fucking TWELVE PERCENT MORE EXPENSIVE. In fact, the games are actually cheaper, relative to inflation, so you're probably not even spending more money.

The only way you can pretend this is a ps3 situation is if you choose to ignore inflation.

As you said, Nintendo didn't drive down wages, they actually pay their employees quite well. The reality is that wages have gone down because companies have offloaded so many jobs to China and Vietnam, reducing demand for labor in the west.

The Wii U had already flopped long before MK8 came out. It was simply too late to save it at that point. The issue was indeed launching the console with only fucking New super mario bros and Wii party U. If the Wii U had Mario Kart 8, Donkey Kong Tropical Freeze and BotW in the launch year it would have succeeded. But getting games EVENTUALLY isn't good enough, you need them early on.

The major opinion among Nintendo influencers seems to be:

Console is costly, but acceptable

Console is overpriced for parents and children

The Direct and the upcoming games looked great

$80 games are not acceptable

$10 demo is not acceptable

Game upgrades and enchanted editions are confusing

Yeah, this is a pretty good big picture outlook. The games and the direct really were great, but holy fuck if they're going to release $80 games for their $450 console regularly they'll be pricing a lot of families out.

That's why nintendo is showing off MKWORLD. Because the switch version of MK8 sold over 60 million and want the sequel to try capturing half of that to make the switch 2 sell, especially with the bundle. It also shows that the game has no need to be priced higher than $60.

Normies don't follow Nintendo directs on the internet. You need the actual game in store to appeal to them, they don't care or know what's coming out in 2 years. With every failed console or even just launch Nintendo had, there was always a lack of key games in that first year. We saw this with the Wii U, 3DS, GC and N64. Whereas their successful consoles always had big titles early on.

It has NOTHING to do with prices or anything else, the Switch was too successful. It's gonna surpass the PS2 and any other console and become the best-selling console of all time soon. Everyone still has their switch, why would they need a switch 2?

There's almost no new market capture, and the old consoles are working fine, the only improvements are minor. Improvements on previous consoles

Playstation 2

The Playstation 3 was literally 35 times more powerful. The jump from 2 to 3 is as large as the jump from 3 to 5.

Nintendo DS

It had minor improvements, from making it light to making it 3d to all this other stuff, but it also peaked. The improvements just made it lighter and more reliable, but they didn't sell a significant amount of copies

Gameboy

The logical evolution was to add more buttons and another screen + touchscreen, this was a massive upgrade and probably one of the biggest in gaming history.

So basically the switch doesn't have much room to move in. You don't get another screen, you don't get 35 times the power, you don't have a bunch of new people you can now sell it to because everyone already has a switch.
It was too successful, the switch 2 will sell maybe 1/2 as many units, many of the sold units will be sold years after release when people finally break their switch and decide to buy the new one.

The price is completely irrelevant, it's about the jump in improvements between consoles. The minor improvements aren't even worth buying another console for most people.
