Nintendo has finally invented the perfect control scheme

Question is, why the fuck did it take so fucking long for this to become a thing? PCfags kept clinging to their clunky typing implement like it's their holy cow, consoles have been crippled by lowest common denominator Xbox that still uses a controller from 20 years ago, does it really take Nintendo to spoonfeed "innovation" into gaming?

They invented it, just like the d-pad, 4 action buttons, bumpers, analog sticks, and rumble. When PlayStation or Xbox inevitably steals it, then it's "perfected"

this kills the idea of portability though

you can bring your legs with you

I emulated Mario Galaxy using a controller in one hand and a mouse in another hand 10 years ago, it's not revolutionary

Okay...?

open rainbow six

it crashes because it detects two different inputs

ggs

I've been using a hybrid control scheme for over a decade now on PC

Why not just point at the screen? I understand mouse being better than a gamepad but when you can just literally point and shoot, why not just do that?

doesn't work that well for first person games

Metroid Prime works perfectly.

I'm pretty sure people tried Nunchuk + mouse back in the day.

I preferred keeping the Nunchuk in my offhand when I was using that Zapper shell.

Nintendo has finally invented the perfect control scheme

This shit has existed for ages. You can get gamepads that replace a keyboard with a joystick + has macro buttons. Look at something like Razer Tartarus, pic related.

The problem is that it feels clunky to use.

I'm assuming you don't need to change camera angles that much because it sounds like torture to use in traditional FPS games

the problem has alwasy been there's no buttons on your right hand, your left had to do everything that wasn't aiming and shooting but now you can jump, reload, swap weapons. and if I'm not mistaken the cons also have gyron, which is something i'm interested in seeing because i've never liked moving my entire controller to use gyro, having a gyro mouse would be fun to try

For all the shit the Wii got man Nintendo were at the top of their game when it comes to innovation, incredible use of otherwise cheap and simple technology. Now what do we get? Nintendo invents the mouse...that will be $499

With gyro, bro, with Gyro!

the problem has alwasy been there's no buttons on your right hand

Are you on your PC right now? Look at your mouse, how many buttons does it have? Why do you think they are that shape instead of awkward Z1 triggers and round A buttons?

but now you can jump, reload, swap weapons

What sort of games are you playing that don't let you swap weapons with the scrollwheel or map jump to one of the side button?

obviously was referring to the four face buttons on the right present in every modern controller

swap weapons with the scrollwheel

That shit sucks

This shit's been around for a long time

This example is and has always been fuckign retarded. Why does it keep being reposted as if it was ever anything but retarded?
It's two thirds of a controller with the right side just awkwardly cut off. You might unironically just hold a regular full ass two-hand gamepad in your one hand. The fact that the entire middle-section is still part of the controller ruins the entire point. The weight and balance of it fucking sucks.
It's not at all the same as the joycons or vr controllers that are actually made for singular hands.

You turn and pan the camera with the pointer close to an edge of the screen. Still generally better than sticks. Metroid Prime as anon mentioned mind you was especially designed around target lock-on, though you still need to aim appropriately in Corruption and the Wii ports of 1 + 2.

Yeah because it sucks and it's way too expensive.

So you control your movement with your thumb? Good luck playing any multiplayer game like that.

we turned the controller into a subpar mouse

perfect control scheme

now we know where nintendo is getting their ideas from

B-But you can seamlessly switch (lololo) between both control schemes on the fly! STOP stifling Nintendo progressing the industry forward with revolutionary innovative ideas!!

Doing that with precision like the Wii requires some sort of sensor setup. The Wii was always a little wonky with that.

This shit is nice but non-standard and will only work in some games seamlessly. What Nintendo is doing is offering something standardized.

there's no buttons on your right hand,

They actually took it from the Lenovo Legion Go but I know how you guys are. If Nintendo does something, it means they also invented it.

This is why I love Nintendo, they take something that everyone takes for granted and they innovate on it. This is a mouse that transisitions between analog controller seamlessly, you can use your own leg as the mousepad, and you can even rotate the cursor. It's easy to see why this will cost the same amount as a game, I'm grateful we get two of them as a pair.

This shit is nice but non-standard and will only work in some games seamlessly

This is because of the retarded decision to put a thumbstick on half of them. Make it a D-pad, or better, a D-stick, and it's flawless in all games, although I often alter the config for everything else.

Nintendo isn't really offering a standard here, joycon mice are going to be comically cumbersome to use and I'm sure they've mandated that no game can be only playable with the mouse for camera movement.

Tbh I'd be happier if they brought back the Wii sensor bar in some form or another, that was one thing I wish the Switch had. I don't really understand what they are trying to achieve here, a mouse while sitting at a couch defeats the purpose of a home console and it's even worse in a mobile setting, so that leaves sitting at some form of desk or table, but if I'm sitting at my desk the last thing I want is to play with a shitty awkward mouse.

The mouse in the picture you replied to has 7 buttons. 9 If you count scroll up and scroll down as a button.

This has an incredibly niche use case and will probably be ignored by 99% of games. I hope they will let you use whatever USB mouse you want. Splatoon 4 is gonna be hilarious with all those long time players getting destroyed by esports fags.

I hope they will let you use whatever USB mouse you want.

They absolutely won't, but one of the chinks will make an adaptor so you can.

I used to imagine a controller like this which could half transform into a mouse, but it was much better than this. I will make it one day

I made the mistake of buying one of these for MMO gaming and it took so much setup that at the end when I realized it didn't have enough buttons for everything I needed, I felt like I wasted both my time and money. It was alright for TF2 I guess.

you can use your own leg as the mousepad

lol

I used that control scheme for SRB2 back when I played it, it's by far the best way to play it

be ahead of your time

get destroyed by inferior hardware due to memes (PS2)

this single event sets back gaming over 2 decades

I could see Sega having tried something like this if they hadn’t left the console space. Considering all the PC-esque qualities the Dreamcast has.

Keyboard is still better. More buttons.

This + Gyro really seems like the ultimate way to play, Nintendo definitely nailed it with these joy-cons.

Except no third party devs will ever implement mouse control for their shooters because everyone is using auto-aim, and if you tune it down, mouse controls are going to be OP as fuck compared to controllers.

Mouse + Gyro

Why would you need gyro aiming if you have mouse enabled?

Playing games with a mouse is nice as a kid until one day you turn 30 and develop wrist pain whenever you play m&k for more than 15 minutes. Anyways switch will just use it as a gimmick like gyro motion controls. It wont be the main way to play games on the console

To be fair, I was playing FFXI with a keyboard on my PS2 and 360fags were doing the same. Once the Wii released, consoles stopped trying to be PCs for a bit and they wanted to be waggle boxes. The Wii REALLY fucked up the vidya industry, games became easier after it and it wasn't until Dark Souls released and became a sensation that the trend reversed and Dark Souls only really took off because of how dumbed down games were becoming to appeal to the Wii casuals.

Will this be the first time many japs experience mouse controls?
