Console constantly crashed or softlocked (apparantly even Hardlocked for some people), screen went apeshit, sound went apeshit, games didn't play right, game cards would not be detected despite being entered correctly, or the console would register that the card was inserted right...and then tell you it wasn't when you tried to start it.

I already have two Switch1 pro controllers. And I have three pairs of non-drifting Switch1 joycons. And the Switch2 will come with its pair of Switch2 joycons.

And what does it even do differently? It has the grip-buttons, and they may end up relevant in the future I guess? But so far I don't think we've been shown a game where those buttons are relevant. And I guess it's been confirmed that the new HD Rumble is even more HD somehow.

Since the original pro controller is compatible with the Switch 2 there's no "need" to buy the new one. The Switch2 Pro controller just adds the C button, back paddles and a headphone jack on top of having the supposed upgraded on the sticks and d-pad but, but those are harder to quantify the value of without getting a feel for them.
But so far I don't think we've been shown a game where those buttons are relevant.

Nintendo Devs are trained to observe industry trends, re-think them and then implement them in new, surprising ways. The issues occur when they stagnate on multiple decade old solutions based on interpretations and expectations of a 20 year old industry.
The issue with mario kart world or prime 4 isn't that they are kiddie, it's that they are old formulas that have run out of ideas and have started to poorly implement wider industry trends that stopped being impressive decades ago. They then default to the Pokémon position where, whatever it's a kids game and children don't expect much, also since it's for kids we should streamline any friction or skill out of the game, also any new IP we create should have this ethos from the start.

I dunno about you but I've played mario kart before, I've played so many I lost count. Since I'm not retarded I can look at gameplay of it and determine if they changed it in an interesting way. Racing on shitty, poorly thought out "open world" straight lines in-between actual well designed tracks is not an improvement. Having so few turns and roads so wide you have to shoehorn in hop boost and grinding so you don't fall asleep on the track is not an improvement. For someone who is already bored of that formula a watered down version of it is not exciting and a free roam open world formula that I'm even more sick of is not going to fix it either.

I got the Switch 2 Mario Kart World bundle from Argos pretty early in the morning, and the Pro Controller + Carry Case from the My Nintendo UK Store, since those two aren't restricted behind the invite system.
Argos have run out of pre-order stock now though, I'm just hoping I got in early enough for launch day delivery.
My hunch is that free updates for Switch 1 games are just telling the emulation layer "let this render in high resolution", same way resolution/frame rate mods for emulators or overclocked Switch systems work. It might also let the Switch 1 emulator mode output to 4k60 / 1080p120 if it can't do those without explicit support.
Whilst my hunch for Switch 2 Editions (Upgrade Packs) is that they're actually just Switch 2 builds and you're running the data exclusively from internal storage or microSD express, in order to avoid slower read speeds from the game card.

There is no "Wii" mode like the WiiU had, the Switch 2 uses an emulation layer to make Switch 1 games run.
Basically, if a game is like 60fps unlocked with frequent drops, Switch 2 should be able to max the fps with no issue.

why would i pre-order, i'm not desperate to play another generic mario kart game on day one? the only switch 2 exclusives i'm interested in are kirby air riders and duskbloods, which don't come out til 2025 and 2026. i'm somewhat interested in prime 4 on switch 2 if the performance is dogshit on switch 1, but that's also not til 2025 and the difference would have to be pretty large for me to drop 450 bucks over it

if some exploit is found that relies on software, then it doesn't really matter and is gonna get insta patched. if it's a hardware exploit like last time, it will take a while for them to fix and roll out updated models. only way it would matter is if literally all stock was gone and they held up production to fix the bug, which i guess isn't impossible, but i don't really care about a hacked switch enough to buy on day one and just pray an exploit is found

Pretty much what the other anon said, the main issues are the prices for the games and peripherals, most people think the system itself is still within reasonable range considering the specs on a handheld. Plus at least some of us are buying it early for piracy purposes so the retarded prices aren't even gonna be a factor.
