Billy Mitchel was my hero when I was a kid, teachers used to give us assignments where we had to write about who we wanted to be like when we grew up and I would always write about Billy.
Then I stumbled upon a Karl Jobst video calling my hero Billy a murderer and even worse a cheater. It messed me up mentally, especially seeing all the comments on the video also insulting Billy instead of defending him.
I started to believe Karls lies myself and I felt like Billy was not the hero I thought he was, those videos threw me in a depression that lasted for years and has only been cured now after Billy has proven his innocence to the world.
Can I sue Karl for the mental distress he caused me by slandering my hero?

in a way, yes, deathless/no hit runs will devolve into speedrun, but as CarcinogenSDA (Resident Evil no hit runner) put it, a speed run is different from no hit run, speed runs most of the time get hit or use various bugs and glitches to get to the finish faster. a no hit/no death run is different, they may have overlaps, but no hit runs focus on making a very smooth and perfect run of the game like racing a perfect lap

This actually started with a previous Youtuber named Apollo Legend who got an autistic fit about Billy's record in Donkey Kong. The standards for proof of score records was way lower back in the day, you just needed a referee to verify it. Apollo spent ages sifting through mountains of data to prove that Billy did not play his record through on the hardware he claimed that he did.

in the end Billy said "Who cares, the Referee said I did so fuck you." and Apollo, having failed to take Billy's score down, got ousted from his friend community and roped.

Then comes Karl. Who seemingly has a grudge against Billy. Accusing Billy of causing Apollo to rope and for cheating his record. It turns out, cheating a record in Donkey Kong isn't actually a civil offense, and accusing someone of causing someone's death absolutely is. So the judge ruled against him. It wasn't helped by Apollo specifying in his suicide note that Karl's friends "gave him the push" to rope himself and didn't mention Billy at all. So now you're here, finding out that the Speedrunning community is full of narcissistic jackasses who backstab each other at every opportunity.

And this is true too, there's no way this defamation case would fly in America, but Australia is one of the more cucked colonies and you have to prove you didn't harm someone's reputation with what you say because everything is upside-down in Australia including its laws.

That said, I don't think accusing someone of pushing someone else to suicide would fly in America either.

this YouTuber does so but eventually kills himself

ANOTHER YouTuber (Karl) is also alleging that Billy cheated and then proceeds to say that Billy is the reason the first guy killed himself

Billy takes him to court over this latter allegation because it's incredibly serious

Karl basically lies to his audience by implying he has a strong case and not mentioning that the case is over the suicide allegations

Karl's first lawyer advises he settles because he has no case

Karl fires his lawyer and gets a second one that's willing to do the case (and fleece money out of him)

all of this despite the fact that the guy that killed himself had a suicide note that didn't mention Billy and instead directly named several people that had harassed him leading up to his death (these people are friends of Karl's)

Karl gets absolutely annihilated in court after scamming his audience out of a lot of money and openly lying to them
