I love how much of a complete asshole you can be in Fallout 3. I mean the newer games have their moments, but you can be out right evil in this game and ruin some of these poor bastards lives
I love how much of a complete asshole you can be in Fallout 3. I mean the newer games have their moments...
I love being a piece of shit because I am a piece of shit IRL haha
Evil character writing is so fucking cringe in this game.
I ended up doing the good character run, then dunked the FEV vial to make the place an actual Capital Wasteland
the lack of in-between is disappointing
people do bad shit everyday but it's never THAT bad
Accurate. Fallout 3 was the only Bethesda Fallout game that portrayed a dark post apocalyptic world. Fallout 4 feels like a theme park by comparison
It is pretty fun.
Well Fallout 3 was made during a time where black and white morality was in vogue. Back around Fable and Black & White and InFamous, Mass Effect, even.
In the 2000s to early 2010s it was normal to do two playthroughs in a game, one as a hero, one as a villain.
So Fallout 3 is built around that.
You're either a goodytwoshoes, a complete evil bastard, or a terse mercenary with little allegiance.
Murder NPCs. Behead NPCs. Mutilate NPCs. Torture NPCs. Rape NPCs. Abuse NPCs. Eat NPCs. Nuke NPCs. Blow NPCs to pieces. Lie to NPCs. Sell NPCs into slavery. Betray NPCs. Tear little kid NPCs' toys apart.
NOOOOO STOP ROLEPLAYING IN THIS RPG GAME!!! YOU CAN ONLY BE THE GOODIE GOOD GUY EVERYTIME AND TAKE THE SAME EXACT GOOD GUY CHOICES!!!
Fallout 4 is bizarrely sanitized, probably to cause less offense.
It's the only Fallout game to not feature prostitution or the slavery of humans. (until the Nuka World DLC which comes off as a reactive expansion to that criticism)
Or well I guess there is Bullet in the 'Kid in the Fridge' quest, but that quest sucks so I'm not going to count it.
Like even in Cait's backstory, which is probably the darkest the game actually gets, Cait isn't sold into slavery until she's specifically 18. Which feels dumb.
I can never do evil playthroughs because I feel too bad for the fake people.
roleplayers are cringe tho
Yeah, like how Bethesda ruined the fanbase and killed the IP.
Fallout 3 was the corporate theme park.
I feel like if you’re going to have an evil playthrough in your game, then you might as well give the player the option to be a complete, unhinged psychopath. Too many “evil” options nowadays are actually just neutral options.
3 has too much soul to be a completely corporate product. The atmosphere and aesthetics alone show an immense amount of love and care.
selfinserting is an illness
They knew and Nuka World was kinda the DLC to fix that.
Anybody else remember this creepy ass Bethesda interview? The fat guy might be a serial killer irl. youtube.com
why are you roleplaying in the roleplaying game
Nuke Megaton? Pfft. Conquering the Commonwealth for the Nuke World raiders? Meh. Breaking Moira's spirit? That was truly the most evil act in Fallout.
My problem is that the only reward of being an asshole is money in those games.
The "bad guy" options should branch to larger questlines with new characters and weapon rewards that you'd never see if you were playing as a good person. Plus it'd be better if most of those quests start with morally gray choices that you wouldn't even consider evil, and slowly progress to really villainous stuff.
Fallout 3 was the corporate theme park.
Compared to 1 and 2, yes. Compared to 4, not at all, just like I said in my original post, you fucking mongoloid
It shocks me how many don't even understand what roleplaying is.
3 has too much soul
SIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIGH.
Can you fucking normalfags NOT use words you don't understand? Especially love and care.
Fallout 3 was a literal corporate cashgrab. A re-interpretation done by clueless normalfags. It has nothing in common with the IP it was "continuing" besides taking place in a apocalyptic wasteland, yet very much wanted people to believe it was a "true sequel" by just shitting references left and right. Muh deathclaws, muh vaults, muh water chips, muh brotherhood of steel. Even worse, it wasn't even sold to genuine fans but instead marketed as "Oblivion but with guns".
Kill yourself, you retarded drone.
genocide runs are fun
shame 3 has way too many essential NPCs, NV having only having 3(?) unkillables is great.
What's the point though? There's never any point in Fallout 3.
Caps are meaningless, there's always more elsewhere.
Tranny hands typed this
You know who's typically a bigger piece of shit in real life? People with a messiah complex.
There is no "comparison", faggot. All bethesda "fallout" shit is just cynical corporate fanfiction.
And yes, New Vegas too. It's a glorified Fallout 3 mod.
NV has a lot more than just three.
Fallout 3 is great, and a big part of why it is so is that Bethesda took risks, and made decisions which turn off some potential players, to complete their vision.
I mean Fallout 3 was designed so that you can wander for minutes without finding a new location in order to sell the concept of the empty post apocalypse.
The subway tunnels, much maligned, are there to make the DC ruins feel far bigger.
Fallout 3 had a goal in mind, to build this atmosphere, and it pulled no punches in doing so, and went and made design decisions which aren't universally liked in order to build that atmosphere.
That's the opposite of a 'corporate theme park.'
desu i don't remember
i thought it was just the kids and yesman who couldn't die
It's a roleplaying game.
If you want to be evil, you can.
If you want to be good, you can.
There doesn't need to be more of a reason.
The player dialogue in Fallout 3 is so cringe
Doesn't NV only have children as full non-killables in the base game?
You can kill Yesman's securitron body, but not him in general, so that's kinda a grey area.
I think there aren't any unkillables in the DLCs either, although if you kill the companions of Dead Money before the third act, your head gets blown off because of the synchronized bomb collars
has nothing in common with the IP it was "continuing"
Fallout 3 has the same setting with some of the same characters, plenty of the same enemy types, themes, and factions, they created VATs -- a completely unique gameplay mechanic included just to make the game more akin to 1 and 2 -- the very way that towns are spread across the map and the subway system in DC are placed is meant to make the 3D exploration of Fallout 3's open world more like traveling along the overworld map in Fallout 1 and 2.
What more could Bethesda have done to make 3 an authentic continuation?
Fallout 3, mechanically, is the best and most authentic way for Fallout to transition from 90s CRPGs to modern, open world action RPGs.
The only major difference is how the 50s-theming is played up, and (admittedly a pretty large change) a change in world building from the magical realism of 1 and 2 to a darkly whimsical, zany setting.
I literally cannot roleplay as a character who does evil just because he enjoys seeing people suffer
It literally makes no sense to me. I'm not even saying this to appear like a good person or anything. I could even imagine playing as a rapist for instance, because then you would at least be getting some pleasure out of it.
But abusing someone for nothing is utterly pointless.
When in Fallout 3 do you abuse someone for no reason?
Basically every evil decision you can make is rooted in monetary benefit.
So if you can't roleplay as a sadist (which I don't get why that's not something you can do) you can use money as your justification.
every evil decision you can make is rooted in monetary benefit
For paltry monetary benefit you don't need.
Like, imagine getting paid 10 dollars to murder someone. That's what some of these evil decisions feel like.
abusing someone for nothing
You derive pleasure from the abuse.
i can hear the hemmohroids of this obsifag burst from here
i'm a normalfag who got attracted by the "Oblivion with guns" line!
Gatekeeping is good.
Anon if you aren't interested in roleplaying as either a greedy merc, or a sadist, then maybe you just don't want to play as an evil character.
That's fine, you don't need to play an evil character, I never do, but this isn't the game's problem -- it's yours.
What more could Bethesda have done to make 3 an authentic continuation?
Nothing. They should've left Fallout alone, as with 3 they proved that they're normalfags with zero actual understanding of it aiming to just transform it into a normalfag friendly product.
Fallout 3, mechanically, is the best and most authentic way for Fallout to transition from 90s CRPGs to modern, open world action RPGs.
The most depressing part is that you genuinely believe this, like the rest of your drivel.
Go back to your subreddit, normalfag vermin.
Fallout 3 was the last main series Fallout I played. I played through New Vegas, 4, 2, and 1 before 3. And I found that Fallout 3 is quite a good game.
Also what would be wrong with 'Oblivion with guns?' Oblivion is a fun game, and guns are fun too.
NORMALFAG NORMALFAG NORMALFAG
Have you considered lightening the fuck up and not trying to prove your 'le ebic Anon Babble' cred for at least two seconds?
You mean you prefer conventional action RPGs over clunky, out-dated, byzantine, horribly balanced CRPGs from decades past? What are you some kind of 'normal person?'
Okay, you know, maybe I am 'too normal' I like games where I don't need to roll a virtual die to see if I've successfully shot the gigantic radioactive scorpion right in front of my character. Sue me.
The problem is, i WANT to play an evil character.
But one who has meaningful reasons to do evil shit.
It could be power, revenge, conquest, any number of things but not a pitiful amount of cash.
in the base game only kids, vendortron and festus are invincible.
which is basically nothing "a lot more" is misleading
What reasons are there to be in evil? I mean this in real life.
Ultimately it just boils down to
Sadism
or
Compensation (money or goods)
If you can't accept either of these in your head as a rationale for being evil, then that's on you.
Is your problem that it's too easy to be rich and have everything while being good?
I can kinda understand that. It would be interesting if there were a tradeoff.
I'm a piece of shit in real life and I'm always nice in videogames, I can't stand the idea of anyone knowing the things I've done....even in a game
Reddit is over there. No need to stay here screaming that you're normalfags and enjoy eating shit.
now that the west has fallen, we'll never be able to enslave kids again on a whim
kinda sucks ngl
and despite being very broken and the ugliest game ever it accidentally stumbled into success because it captured a completely different audience from oblivion, which they promptly fumbled to capitalize correctly on with 4 & 76, each being less of an RPG and even more of a corpo cash grab.
it was fun to take part in bethesda's downfall but it's gone beyond levels of ironic appreciation at this point and i'm a bit sad it's over.
I didn't play fallout 4. I wanted to play it ever since it was annouced, never had the chance. Soon I'll be able to play it for the first time and was hyped. Now I am sad.
for me it's video games where you can still be "good" while killing everyone in your path, neutral or evil both, just by baiting them or picking options that don't defuse conflict
its the paladin argument, a paladin wouldn't be charging into a goblin den and slaughtering every goblin in there, he would at least try to lead them away from the path of evil, reeducating and integrating them into society or at least a way of life that doesn't involve harming other beings
but that shit is boring
but i've yet to play a video game that properly judged you for your actions
more games need an actual "body count" stat which is called into question, both for and against being good or evil or whatever
evil guy with hardly any kills might be treated like a poser, good guy with a lot of kills might be hit with "look around you! you didn't save a damn thing!" tier shit
i dunno
most normies are happy to have slop served to them without having to go look for it though
for them, they could bomb an orphanage to wipe out bad guys and then get patted on the back by the president and it'd be enough to think themselves a hero
