Shit just keeps adding up

purely a positive

Eh...it's fine.

it's over

acheesements too difficult to imprement, prease understand

Imagine needing special golden star stickers to feel validation from an interactive media format. Absolutely unhinged, develope a frontal lobe before posting on Anon Babble again thank you

I need people to SEE what I've done.

You forgot to preface your statement with: Activating Nintendo Defense Force protocol.

Do people still try to get achievements? That was literally like a six month fad for me.

dude, like shoot 500 guys with the repeater in Red Dead Redemption!

Why?

to prove you're a good gamer!

How does it prove that?

You forgot to preface your statement with: SNOY COPE ACTIVATE, RUNNING NO GAMES SEETHE PROTOCOL. TARGETING WHIMISCAL FUN TENDIE GAMES... whirrr... TROON POSTING ENGAGED. TOURISM LEVELS MAX.

Each game has their achievements if they want

this will be the first tendie in line to deepthroat big n's cock when they implement the feature, btw

They should be there at this point since every other system has them. That said I don't care about them and it's fucking gay when you're reaching an important point in the story and you get the DING DING DING ACHIEVEMENT UNLOCKED popup as you watch a party member die.

They should be there at this point since every other system has them.

it's as simple as this

Yes, if Nintendo does an achievements system it WILL be better than the competitions and worth praise, I completely agree Anon. I mean, poor snoys are starving to death, they WISH they had some content to slurp on BBC style

Good. Children don't need achievements for their toys. "How fast did you build that lego set, son?" "Did you push that rock down a hill 50 times to get it exactly the right way?" "who won the water balloon fight?" Bitch if you're not a 'professional' and you're playing for something other than fun you need to stop playing.

Ingame achievements are superior in every way.

i have been primarily playing my ps5 this year and i think achievements are retarded. first thing i did out of the box when i bought the ps5 was to disable that stupid shit. anyone who likes or needs these things is a mental midget.

Dude, that crap is standard by now. I couldn't care less about achievements. I just find Nintendo's laziness astonishing.

So by this logic nintendo should only publish shit games, they're the only ones not pumping out absolute brain melt cognito hazard slop

achievement niggers are fucking retarded

muh skinner box

fuck off
not even a nintendofag

good. i fucking hate achievements. they unironically ruin videogames. you score whores should kill yourselves. and fuck microsoft for starting this and basically every negative industry trend. and fuck israel.

Most Nintendo games have in game milestones, and they really are all shitty grind ones, so there would be little to gain from having them anyway.
Achievements were neat in concept, but in practice have become a tedious checklist to artificially pad out game time long past the point of fun.

2025

people caring about achievements

LMAO

beat the first level

pet the doggo

buy 50 potions

beat the boss

jump on top of this specific house and eat a pickle sandwich

do nonsensical thing you wouldn't normally do very fast

WOAH PEOPLE HAVE TO SEE THIS

BotW has achivements. You just have to pay $20 for the Switch 2 upgrade, then you can only unlock them on your phone (not on the console).
I shit you not. Enjoy your $20 cheevos.

The absolute state of this board
Nothing but a bunch of filthy casuals these days.

I was always surprised that Nintendo didn't do the Xbox 360 thing of cheevos unlocking first and third party gear for your avatar (miis)

I always thought achievements were done by the game, not by the console

Achievements have always been for enormous fucking queers.

I hate achievements. I can't be assed to get them all and seeing stuff like 12/35 even after finishing a game triggers my autism but I'm not enough of a loser to go and do it all

You are wrong.

People would literally be like "okay", and move on.
Who even looks at achievements these days?

I won't pay for that

Xenoblade X has achievements and there's a whole game attached

Yep, that sounds like the typical Nintendo method.

1ccing a good shmup makes good bragging rights. doing for the sake of it makes you a retarded nigger

It's already confirmed true. Check the official website.

/thread

nintendo doesn't do achievements

O:<

microsoft and sony don't do games

|:

jump 1000000000 times

you only need to jump 10000 times to complete the game and every other achivement

Achievements

Use case?

being so vehemently against a feature you can completely choose to ignore makes you even more retarded.

there are also nso classic games with cheevos, but no one knows about it except me

ikr, go back to r*ddit, fags

I wish I could remove all my achievements on steam, it's an absolutely pointless feature that detracts from the games. It's just there to trigger people's OCD, you don't actually need to collect all the golden turds, time spent collecting all the golden turds is time not spent enjoying the game.

Nintendo usually opts to put achievements into the games themselves rather than implement them at a system-level.

Their philosophy during the Switch/Switch 2, especially as of late, is to reduce the number of impositions on developers as much as possible (including on a hardware level). They probably figure that any dev who wants to include achievements will, and those who don't can just proceed as normal.

Recent examples I can think of are Xenoblade X and that Zelda Notes thing for Botw/TotK. I wouldn't be surprised if Zelda Notes is a test for making game-based achievements systems work on a more social level.

Yeah, games for $80.

you posted that in another thread, elaborate
retroachievements isn't nso

Nah they're fun and add on little challenges to the game which are completely optional but if you like the game it gives you more to do.
They could've called them Medals.
Pokemon B2W2 had them and they were fun.

Cb3ae517.jpg - 324x207, 34.39K

Sucks, but the Switch 2 will be the only console with video games available on it.
I'll just split the cost of the games with a friend, fuck it.

400 KB

Nintendo usually opts to put achievements into the games themselves rather than implement them at a system-level.

No they don't? There's like 2 total nintendo games that do this out of over 9000.

fucking based, achoooovers are fucking retarded

Boot up game

ACHIEVEMENT UNLOCKED: FIRST STEP

You think this is fun? Why?

Beat boss

ACHIEVEMENT UNLOCKED: BEAT THE BOSS

Why do you need to be told the boss is beaten? You know he's beaten. You beat him.

The only one screeching here is you, nigger. If you don't like them, why the fuck are you even in a thread where someone's complaining about their absence? Fucking retard. Keep yourself safe as well, faggot.

you should list them and then when you realize there are a lot more than you initially thought, delete your post and close the thread

Pokemon B2W2 had them and they were fun.

You think "walk x amount of steps" is fun?

Achievements are gay.

Even some devs hate achievements since other platforms REQUIRE to add them (I've read complains about adding them on Playstation versions)

the only one screeching here is you

youre in a thread complaining about how the new bingbing box dares to not have achievements. learn how to read and think contextually you subhuman

You made the claim that they "usually do it". The burden of proof is on you.
Looking forward to reading your list!

Achjievemnst are fucking pointless.

Steam chievements are wortzhless

Valve and the greedy useless fat fuck Gaben do nothing against people using Steam achievement manager. There is 0 reason to play games for the achievements on PC

Normal achievements

On consoles they are atleast unabtainable for cheaters but there are so many games with artifical shit to do.

On consoles they are atleast unabtainable for cheaters

Wrong.

yeah man nintendo is so lazy. how the fuck are they going to release a game without giving me a cheevo for killing 100, 250, and 500 enemies? how the fuck do they expect players to pay for a fucking game that doesn't reward them with 10 googoo gamer points for finishing chapter 1. what a joke of a company, they should go third party and release their games on steam

Steam Hunters aims for a clean leaderboard, without the SAM niggers.
And you can't use SAM on newer Ubishit games at least.

this is why nintendo not having cheevos globally is good, but you can still want something like it in a given game as sort of a "fun challenges" checklist
maybe nintendo should have a "medal showcase" for cheevo fags and games can put like "finished the game :)" or whatever autismo shit there if they want
that said too many of them are boring shit and too many people waste their time doing all that boring shit

Spoken like someone who never had an achievement pop up.

i'm not the anon you were talking to. you're the one who said there's only 2 games, so tell me which ones (should be easy if you know there's only 2)

based, and they always have to come on all these threads to spew out their shitty opinion. bet they don't even beat 5 games a year, let alone complete them.

Both Zeldas are getting cheevos in the Zelda Notes app. There you go.

but you can still want something like it in a given game as sort of a "fun challenges" checklist

Make a challenge you personally want to do, set a goal and achive it? Like taking no HP upgrades in Zelda.
I don't know why people can't have fun in games without the game literally telling you how to have fun.

They aren't. Not sure why they're calling them that, but whatever.

achievements are fucking stupid
don't be such contrarian ffs

But behind a paywall.

Share the knowledge then, I'm interested.

get well soon

i'm not the anon you were talking to

So I don't have to answer to you? Awesome.

You said there was only 2 games

I didn't. I said there was "like, 2 games", which was a non-literal term for saying "there aren't many".
Hope this helps! Can't wait for the "other" anon to post the full list for us to read!

I NEED HECKSTERIN 'CHIVOS
ITS NOT ENOUGH FOR ME TO PLAY VIDEOGAMES I NEED THE GAME TO PAT MY HEAD AND TELL ME THAT IM A GOOD BOY AND DID WELL WASTING TIME

gss33.jpg - 885x1034, 71.79K

They literally are. Haven't you read the official website?

?
Did you reply to the wrong post?

being this mindbroken

get well soon

I have, and what they showed are not achievements in the traditional sense.

Why are you spamming anon? What's the matter? Use your big boy words and tell me whats wrong. Don't be scared!

In the traditional sense

...meaning?

And no buy it is

The anon you're replying to isn't me, but let me break my point down for you in plain English.

When I say "usually opts to put achievements into games rather than implement them at a system level" I do not mean "most Nintendo games have in-game achievements." The phrase has absolutely nothing to do with the quantity of titles in which they have chosen to implement them, and everything to do with the way they go about it. I should have instead phrased it as "Nintendo has never opted to include achievements on a system level in favor of implementing them directly into games" to avoid confusion.

However, if you would like some examples of how Nintendo tends to do it, I'll list a few beyond the ones I've already named:
- Smash Ultimate's challenge board
- Super Mario Odyssey's Toadette moons
- Tetris 99's player badges and milestones
- Mario Maker 2 just straight up has an achievements page
- Mario Kart World seems to have some kind of milestone as evidenced by some Treehouse clips
- Miitopia's medal system
- Metroid Prime Trilogy had one, but I can't quite remember how it was worked in

As I said previously, I expect things similar to Zelda Notes to become more commonplace within Nintendo games as a way of maintaining their current philosophy while also allowing for achievements to act as a social feature.

falseflag thread to try to make nintendo look based

When I say "usually opts to put achievements into games rather than implement them at a system level" I do not mean "most Nintendo games have in-game achievements."

So you are using the words incorrectly. Thanks for confirming.

Being a lazy nigger dev is celebrated and is a good thing all of a sudden

Ok but why?

holy ESL

I've owned every console barring a Series X/S, achievements/trophies are fucking retarded.

achievements are for the "every one's a winner" faggot club

uses words incorectly

accuses others of being ESL

Like clockwork lol

Except achievements are the work of lazy devs

Please read the rest of my post before replying or intentionally interpreting it in bad faith, thank you.

Meaning it's not like on PlayStation/Xbox/Steam/Epic//iOS/Android/litteraly everywhere else.

holy redditor thinking people who reply are the same anons and being unable to recognize typing patterns

Video game achievements are not achievements in the traditional sense to begin with, silly.

I already have. Why do you think I haven't?

They're all exposing themselves in this very thread lmao

obvious samefag is obvious.

Achievements disincentivize balanced high difficulty modes and rewards for accomplishing challenging tasks
Oh you added a no fun allowed super difficulty that's highly based on rng? And theres no reward to do it besides pride? I don't think I will partake, sorry

fpbp

I'll still buy because it'll be the only console with games, but I'll sell it if it gets pwned in its first year like the Switch 1 and go back to emulating everything. I wouldn't if it had proper achievement implementation.

I hate achievements like you wouldn't believe
inb4

just ignore them!

I CAN'T
I KNOW THEY'LL ALWAYS BE THERE IN THE BACKGROUND
I KNOW I'LL CLEAR A GAME AND EXPLORE EVERY NOOK AND CRANNY ONLY TO END UP WITH A 22% ACHIEVEMENT COMPLETION BECAUSE I DIDN'T "HEADSHOT AN ENEMY 100000 TIMES" AND OTHER SUCH INANE BULLSHIT

Having no achievements is actually one of the best things about pirated games on PC, and it's cool that nintendo hasn't drunk the cheevo kool-aid yet.
By the way, I'm perfectly fine with optional achievements in theory. As in, you boot up your steam account or your console and you can simply choose to disable the thing altogether. No tracking, no listing, no achievement data or information whatsoever. That'd be fine. Problem is when they're forced on you.

ACHIEVEMENT: START THE GAME

ACHIEVEMENT: USE BASIC FEATURE

ACHIEVEMENT: DEFEAT AN ENEMY

ACHIEVEMENT: PLAY THE TUTORIAL

ACHIEVEMENT: BEAT CHAPTER [X]

ACHIEVEMENT: BEAT A BOSS

ACHIEVEMENT: BEAT THE GAME

Every game is like this now achievements are fucking retarded. This is absolutely a positive.
It's an easy dopamine release for retards, especially gen A/Late Z. The same tards who can't play retro without retro achievements active so they can get a virtual pat on the back.

retroachievements

pat on the back

You wouldn't even be able to complete the easiest non-meme set on that site.

Because I directly acknowledged the confusion that could have arisen from my phrasing in my post. Your reply was effectively useless. The only way I could rationalize such a reply is if you had not fully read it, misinterpreted what I wrote once again, or were just intentionally being obtuse.

I've literally never given a shit to even look at the achievements from the Xbox 360 till now. People torturing themselves to do unfun shit in the game for stupid achievements is the gayest shit ever.

Stop! I already pre-ordered. You don't need to sell it to me

I didn't know you can do that, thanks for the tip. I want that garbage out of my sight completely.

It's actually $10 for the upgrade which surprises me. Tears of the Kingdom was one of the biggest disappointments but shit if I decide to finish the rest of the shrines I'm willing to pay $10.

Nintendo game with achievements

CONGRATULATIONS YOU BEAT THE GAME WINNER IS YOU THANKS FOR PLAYING OUR GAME

100% of players get this achievement

Why bother

let go.jpg - 384x384, 24.68K

I don't understand why you're so upset all of a sudden. What did I do to get you so mad?

Congratulations, you just described the current state of achievements in every single video game! I'd say that deserves a reward.

Achievement Unlocked: Stating the Obvious (10 pts)

This $70 game was shit

m-maybe it will be better if i pay...$80?

the fuck is wrong with you retards?

i never considered smash challenge board to essentially be cheevos, weirdly enough

I replied to you pretty bluntly; I can't see how any of it could be interpreted as anger

NOOOOOO I NEED MY CHEEV-ACK!

I didn't say you were angry. I asked why you were upset.
Maybe look up the definition of "upset" before you reply again. It doesn't only mean "anger".

im addicted to cheevos and games dont feel complete without getting them or maxxing completion %

Why can't people just make their own achievements? Why do they need the developers to make them a list?

Post 1: What did I do to get you so mad?

Post 2: I didn't say you were angry

And I'm the one expected to grab a dictionary?

They do.
Never seen retro achivements? Its cringe as fuck

Holy tendie copium and sour grapes

Do you really want achivements spam on your screen, distracting and taking you out of your immersion?

FUCK OFF FAGGOT OP

Thanks for confirming I didn't use the word "angry".
So again. Why did my post upset you so much? Don't dodge the question again.

Nah they're not fun and add on a bunch of bullshit that is completely subversive and if you like the game it ruins it for you.

Imagine needing special golden star stickers to feel validation from an interactive media format.

Exactly. I will not go 100% complete Mario 5 times so the star icon on my save turns from yellow, to blue, to red and then to rainbow.

As a player, I can care less. But I'd have REALLY liked to see how many people actually complete games on Nintendo systems. I feel like they're afraid to add achievements for that reason alone. If only 10% of players finished BotW, that's a good talking point for shitting on their ecosystem.

Achievements can be done ingame, that's the intended way. See Factorio for example.
Blame the developers, not the platform for not adding useless achievements.

I didn't know Nintendo didn't do achievements or I'd have had a higher opinion of Nintendo

no achievements

nintenbros...it's so..over...how can we survive....just over....fuck...microsoft, sony and valve got the ultimate gamer feature while we didn't.....

As an achievement hunter here's my two cents

I think they ultimately ruin the experience of playing video games due to their nature of pressuring people into playing games longer than they normally would do which can either cheapen the experience or encourage people to make claims that said game is "good" because they put 70+ hours into it when a solid chunk of that time was put into getting pointless achievements

I give achievements some props for doing certain things, like "awarding" a player for doing something really difficult that not many others can do and requires actual skill/effort to gain. Some achievements can also be used as guides to experience a game in ways you didn't know existed, but these are best when kept vague so how to get the achievement is still available to the player but you're not rail-roaded right into it. But for me stumbling upon secret areas without being told by an achievement list they exist in game is far better, I like accidentally finding things instead of being told about them but some prefer being hand holded

A minor nitpick for some achievements are the ones that spoil the game or ruin the players experience in relation to exploration and story, many a time I've gained an achievement and looked at the list to see what it was and how I got it only to see a major spoiler or something I didn't want to know in another achievement while scrolling for the one I just got. I know there are hidden achievements for this very thing but not every dev hides them

Overall achievements do nothing other than inflate game play time, make you feel like your time was spent well (when it wasn't) and to give you some sense of accomplishment that you would have had with or without the achievement. Beat the hardest boss in the game on the most insane difficulty possible? There's no difference from me taking a screenshot of the boss dying to getting a notification and some user score points from an achievement, they are almost utterly pointless

20 years

I don't remember the gamecube having achievements

360 is 20 years old

I didn't say it's shit, just that it's underwhelming because it's so similar to botw. More like "this is good and all but I already played this shit."

I go for steam achievements for games I like. None of my games are set to display

I think they ultimately ruin the experience of playing video games

Just don't hunt cheevos?

I've been on Steam for 14 years and only 2 years ago I gave a shit about achievements in a single game out of 300+ I got

The 360, the first system with achievements, came out in 2005.

I like getting ingame items for completing random tasks. At least Steam cards can be sold.

Did you fail 3rd grade English or is your petulant refusal to admit fault just making it look like you’ve forgotten what a synonym is?

achievements are a lazy tool to make retards waste their time doing shit they don't like and wouldn't do if not for a meaningless digital trophy

I just find Nintendo's laziness astonishing.

Laziness is when western devs can't compress their game

the joke is that people love and play Nintendo games all the way through, doing everything in them they can

snap.jpg - 520x447, 32.22K

yeah but valve lets me put them on my steam profile so that makes them good

Okay but why do we need achievements on videogames though?

Are people here seriously still seething about cheevos in 2025?

Every platform that has them has an option to turn the pop-ups off, so if you hate them so much it's like they don't exist.
Why even bother being mad about this

I got into an argument on a game review forum last week.

Should achievements be counted when you review a game? I argued no, because they actually exist completely outside of the game itself, on the platform ecosystem. My "adversary" said of course you should count them "they are game content!".

If this is true, how should I count them? What if the game is super good but achievements are all pointless and assy? Lower the score?

Or should I not factor in achievements at all.

237462378264.png - 1826x127, 35.23K

Good, I don't need good boy points to motivate me to play games

Forcing devs to add good boy slop to their games is objectively bad

100% of players get this achievement

70% of people do not finish their games and this is readily illustrated by achievement stats

But every dev that isn't first-party Nintendo already does this, and as illustrated elsewhere in this thread, many Nintendo games have a similar system implemented anyway.

Besides, it's not like devising a checklist and then adding flags to check them off is a huge development undertaking.
