Contrarian opinion. Hori fucked up a lot of things, but Vigilantes had so much down time. Plus I just don't like most of Vigilantes' supporting cast by comparison, even if MHA's didn't get enough focus to shine outside of a couple school training chapters.

first I thought it would bea comic book shonen and it wasn't. Then I thought it would about a HS shonene about Midoriya, Uraraka, and Iida and then the show completely dropped those characters for Todoroki and Bakugo . Then Deku got more powers, most of class A became even bigger background characters, and voldemort muh destined one shit started taking over everything and I lost all interest. Vigilantes seems more focused on comic book superheroes and crime fighting.

It pretty much, the story is primarily about not letting yourself get held down by your past or scars. And it's pretty much about Koichi getting gud enough to pursue his dream. Kind of straight forward, but it's exactly the kind of stuff that works in my opinion.

It's not that it's "not as popular" and I can't stand seeing it prainsed. It's that people so blatantly overcompensate about praising it when outside of a couple story moment payoffs, it really wasn't all that great. It has like 3 strong characters that aren't recycled from MHA. It doesn't keep the tension taut like a bowstring, so the only things going on at times are when they're planning stage shows. And certain themes just don't strike as hard despite following the same recipe of "American Superhero out east." Captain Celebrity, at no point, is as compelling as All Might. He just isn't.

I thought CC was plenty compelling, but he and All Might have very different places in the story. Knuckleduster is the blatant All Might stand-in for Koichi, but his character is way different. His moments where he has to take care of his daughter and his dynamic with Six were really nice.
I read it recently so I feel I can say that I enjoyed my time at least.

Knuckleduster's parts are basically the plot payoff I was referring to. And yeah, mentor-wise, he is kind of the story's All Might. But he's more of a Punisher than a Superman. And CC steps in after KD's stepped out of the spotlight.

Also, I'm not trying to shit on Vigilantes, even if it might seem like it. It was enjoyable, and I think it's worth reading/watching. I just don't see the strength behind it that made MHA competitive with Jump's big 3. The early arcs of MHA are fucking fantastic. It just fell off after All Might depowered after the Kamino Ward fight.

Well, then we pretty much agree, but I'm just more receptive to the main plot. I think the climax is good despite some people thinking they escalate too fast. Honestly the only thing the manga misses for me is some extra chapters before/during the final time skip for some more setup.

The general opinion around MHA didn't shift around that time simply because people felt like being hating the series and people who like Vigilantes for its smaller more focused story aren't being contrarian.

I think people in general started getting turned off around the time when o my 7 quirks happened, at least back when I followed the manga. Overhaul was actually a cool villain and Mirio losing his quirk was a good way to up the tension, but I personally feel like it started falling off from that point onward.

I don't disagree with you, but overall 2/3rds of MHA is better than Vigilantes. Personally, MHA still wins out for the high-heights it reached.

The 7 quirks reveal was when cracks started to show, but there was still the illusion that he's be working on his OFA and have to work to master the other quirks. The Overhaul arc also did a good job as a distraction from the looming plot point as well. But the mood really took a shift when we got the announcement that the manga would be ending soon, and while "soon" ended up not really being all that soon, it was still obvious the story was going to need to rush through stuff, like his Deku's quirk development.

Personally I think most of vigs is on par with early MHA, with a generally more focused story to boot. The pop live show bits might drag a little though, but I think it's well worth it. I'm definitely more of a fan of the finale, despite the relative power escalation, however.
