Weapon slots are awful if you want one of everything. Realistically you use your 'good weapon' 99% of the time and then have one of each type for missions that restrict use.
Warframe slots are shitty at the start. Once you catch up the game gives you slots more often than it makes new frames. Again, realistically you will use the same 2-3 frames 99% of the time and a couple others for very specific things.

As a new player you need to delete shit you can easily make again at any time after mastering it.
Frames get fed to helminth.
Figure out trading before you start amassing primes and slots will be a non-issue.

yes you will have to use the wiki constantly to figure out shit.
the game simply doesnt explain it well enough or at all.
yes you can do everything for free but its going to be rough.
the way you "level up" is by getting mastery points which goes towards your mastery rank which can only be gained by leveling up gear(weapons/warframes) but only the first level up of each thing counts(there are prime versions which give xp, vectis 1-30 gives xp, and vectis prime gives xp but you if relevel each of those guns(which increases the amount of mods you can socket in them) that re-level wont give xp towards mastery rank)
and to keep leveling up your mastery rank you will need lots of gear which means you need gear slots
which are paid for with premium currency(you can earn this premium currency(platinum) in game by farming specific resources or weapon parts and then trading them with other players, but you wont be able to earn anything worth trading for the first like 50 hours MINIMUM so its sort of a moot point)
so if you dont want to buy more gear slots you need to delete gear once it has reached max level to so you can craft new gear(its crafted in real time, so hours-days of real time) to then level up and gain mastery rank WHICH IS SUPER IMPORTANT gaining mastery rank is like the most important thing to do as a new player but the system isnt explained at all.
also you can to complete a mastery rank test which can only be attempted once per day to increase your rank
so if you fail then you cant go up in rank until 24 hours have passed.
