I can agree with that.
That said, the amount of villagers low or high doesn't really matter and is ultimately cosmetic, as you're limited to a handful at a time anyways. The dialogue just needs to be good and varied.
I wouldn't mind them being genderless if they go back to being assholes and swiping your furniture
