It sucks because the hardware looks great and I'm really not worried about the price of that, but I can't afford to pay $80 for games (and I'm guessing a huge amount of them won't even be on the cartridge), and I certainly wasn't planning on the added greed of making me pay if I want simple FPS and resolution bumps for Switch 1 games. They basically killed all my optimism surrounding this thing.

The Switch was by far the biggest winner of the last console generation, the Mario movie was a hit, the Zelda movie is on the horizon, they're branching out into theme parks, and Nintendo overall constantly ranks in the top 20 of the wealthiest Japanese companies. Why do their games never go on sale? Why are they going to be charging $70-90 for games? Because they can and people will still buy them. It's that simple.

"Exclusives" haven't sold consoles since like 15 years ago. That's not why you buy a console anymore.

Everyone has dozens of non-gaming PC's, laptops, tablets, phones etc. around their house. People are good on computers. You buy a console when you just don't want the hassle of PC gaming and by and large you get a lot of games months/years before PC does and a few exclusives but mostly you're buying a PS5 just to play the latest games and it only cost you $400 and you're good until at least 2027 (more like 2030 because that's 3 years into the PS6's life cycle and by then it'll be cheaper and they'll have worked out the hardware kinks and there'll be plenty of PS6 generation titles by then).

If you have money to burn and you want to be autistic about your specs/performance/tweaking then yeah get a gaming PC.
